Why are we being lectured by a guy with $400 billion

He knows how to cut fat, meaning screwing over real people, to funnel their paychecks into his pocket. It's literally what his job is.
Since it's taxpayer money the money would go back into the tax payer funded Fed "bank account".

We'll see how it goes.

It's a job that needs to get done and more than likely he'll fail but I don't have a problem with making the attempt.

Or it will go to Musk. Since when has Musk ever returned the money to anybody but himself?

Musk appears to know how to turn a profit, when all our government has to do is break even,.. Perhaps he has suggestions?

He did it Tesla and X ofr sure...

I'm pretty sure Space x isn't a bloated bureaucracy either.

I just want to see what he comes up with....easier said than done when dealing with the entrenched federal bureaucracy.
I don't know about Tesla, but X still isn't profitable. Anyone can go in and cut a bunch of employees.

He knows how to bilk the government for subsidies, which is why he wants to get closer. His wealth is propped up on the backs of the masses as he slings both parties snake oil. Guy gets paid billions to make holes to nowhere, fly rockets, and make a tiny number of cars compared to his competition. It is actually quite hilarious. I know he is a genius, but he’d be broke if not for state money, having spent all his money doing dumb shit and making outrageous claims like “I can dig a tunnel from New York to London for under $1T”

They want to cut $2 trillion. They plan on doing this without snipping one bit from the military budget. The only way $2 trillion is even on the radar is if they essentially wipe out social security and medicare. Cutting a few research programs and the Department of Education isn't even going to get you to a billion dollars. Have fun with that.

Perhaps they fail and only cut a trillion,.. still a win.
Musk hired a bunch of people he didn’t need to sell a story to Wall Street to keep the money flowing. When the roadblocks came, he was able to unload a lot of weight he knew he didn’t need. All these tech companies do this. That’s why Twitter was fine when he fired everyone.

Problem here is that these guys don’t know what they’re going to break when they start cutting shit. The interwoven mess of the federal government is not a large cap tech company. Much it runs on antiquated systems and processes. Cutting a trillion is a nothing burger. They need new revenues, and those aren’t coming.

MMW, military spending will grow.

i have no problem with trying to improve operations and increase efficiencies in the federal government

i just think you need to actually know things about how these organizations and bureaucracies function to do that effectively

and it seems like the people being chosen to lead these efforts (including but not limited to elon) don't have that knowledge

note that i haven't heard a single thing about any legislative fixes...everything is just slashing administrative capacity and then just assuming everything will turn out well. i'd say that's a shitty plan for improving something

Think it’s going to end up similar to Al Gore’s attempt in the 90’s. Go on Letterman or Joe Rogan now and oversell what you did. When it was essentially cosmetic.

Do you mean, like two political insiders, like say, Simpson and Bowles who come up with a plan and the president who appointed them just completely ignores all of their hard fought and researched ideas? Would you prefer that unsuccessful model?

100+ different contracts across 17 different federal agencies totaling over $3,000,000,000+ from a guy who bought his reputation as a genius, sadly a genius who’s never invented anything he’s associated with. But yeah, he’ll surely save us all.

i'm not going to pretend to be (like you are, I'm sure) an expert on the simpson and bowles proposal, but i can tell you that the bill based on it was put before the house and was voted down 382 to 38. so i think its disingenuous to pretend it didn't go anywhere simply because obama ignored it

i do think this general approach - a bipartisan group of legislators developing an actual proposal - is a good strategy
