Why hasn’t Congress passed additional funding for the virus

What's True
The Trump administration's proposed 2021 budget includes cuts to the CDC's activities related to chronic disease.

What's False
Congress hasn't approved the budget, so CDC funding in 2021 remains unclear.

Some public health experts say a bigger concern than White House budgets is the steady erosion of a CDC grant program for state and local public health emergency preparedness — the front lines in detecting and battling new disease. But that decline was set in motion by a congressional budget measure that predates Trump.

In the spring of 2018, the White House pushed Congress to cut funding for Obama-era disease security programs, proposing to eliminate $252 million in previously committed resources for rebuilding health systems in Ebola-ravaged Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. Under fire from both sides of the aisle, President Donald Trump dropped the proposal to eliminate Ebola funds a month later. But other White House efforts included reducing $15 billion in national health spending and cutting the global disease-fighting operational budgets of the CDC, NSC, DHS, and HHS. And the government’s $30 million Complex Crises Fund was eliminated.

Who had the majority in the House of Representatives?

Republicans. Next question.

Who would administrate the use of funding if approved. The infrastructure has been decimated and there are about 100 different admin officials “in charge” of things.

CDC funding was increased this fiscal year so I am perplexed what is meant by infrastructure damage?

I'm sure you are "perplexed", Georgie.

How about this as an example:

Bob Kraft decides to cut the NE Patriots payroll by 80% for 2020 season. Brady, surrounded by all league-minimum guys. Big savings. Yuge savings.

Only 5 games into the season, and they've been blown out every game by >50 points. Kraft realizes....Oh Shit.....I need more good players. So, he tries to find some or trade for some, but he cannot add them in and integrate them fast enough to make a difference. 3 more 50+ point blowouts, and now half the season is gone. He goes out to balloon payroll as much as he can now, but there just aren't any players to really hire. Ends the season 0-16 with the worst point differential in NFL history.

Now, ole Bob TRIED to recover 5 games in, but the infrastructural damage to his team was too great to overcome - they couldn't get the talent in and get it integrated in time to even get a single close game, let alone a win.

I love how you act like this is a win. Just admit it. Trump has no idea what he's doing.

Your speaker wants more.
She should, because that's what reality requires. And just what does Trump plan on spending $2.5 billion on in the next 4 weeks? This is one of my big beefs with Trump. He says this thing will be gone by April, that the warm weather will kill it off, and that it's nothing to worry about, yet undercuts all his arguments by requesting $2.5 billion to deal with this four week nothing problem.

So which one is it? It is a nothing problem that will be gone in weeks? Or is it a major problem that we will have to spend billions dealing with? Where the eff is the consistency and why do Trump's supporters just ignore his all over the map responses?

I'll let you get worked up over it, it's Friday time to be with the family. Have a happy rage ranting weekend.

That makes no sense being as the virus is not going to check your political party before killing you.

What makes sense is there is great fear on the right that a combination of being ill prepared and double downing on lying to the public on the severity of this event is going to completely land on the Republican party and specifically the Whitehouse doorstep. Even the cult will fall apart when family and friends and maybe even they start being impacted by an ill prepared government and a pandemic presented as a nothing burger by the president.

But we don't want this to happen. Because it would mean us dying as well...

maybe because Trump did not say “it will”

he outlined 5 things during his press conference

He gutted the response teams >2 years ago.

And his own DNI didn't want to convey the risks because "it might make him mad".

Yet, here you are, licking his butthole, again, in the face of overwhelming evidence of the incompetence. Perhaps it is the incompetent incapable of recognizing the incompetence.

Still not seein' any updates or guidance on your nrt.org site

https://www.nrt.org/

Looks like they still just work the oil spills.....

no not on ignore but it sure is pissing him off which is entertaining right now

kind of makes it look like you are just scared to directly engage him in a back and forth debate.

actually I did try to have an open and honest conversation but he is so off the rails right now you can’t converse with him and I told him I was done talking with him. Ever since then he keeps getting angrier and angrier and the personal attacks have escalated along with lies. https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/cdc-says-to-expect-coronavirus-to-spread-across-us.305476/

Yep

He's still incapable of admitting that his claim the NRT was handling the coronavirus outbreak is 100% false. That was one of the early excuses that Trump did not impact our response capabilities.

It's akin to claiming our military readiness cannot be impacted by anything, because the FDA is still working.

"off the rails" means beating him senseless with facts.

Dude still refuses to admit the NRT (National Response Team) isn't involved in biologic pandemics. I've asked him to link from their site any recent guidance or indication they're working on coronavirus.

Repeatedly asking for that is "off the rails" after he linked the site originally as his "example".

Both fun and sad to watch at the same time, as someone who is so ingrained in TrumpLand he can no longer even think coherently.

Pay special attention to the regional teams it is made up of and the agencies it is comprised of including FEMA, health and human services, homeland security, etc.

Look at its mission statement

Pay attention to the national response framework slide which says the following:

●National response to all-hazard emergencies -- natural disasters, terrorist attacks, oil/chemical incidents, public health emergencies, etc.

There's nothing there on viruses and pandemics, bro.
They haven't even updated their main page.

They.Are.Not.Involved.

Can somebody go to nrt.org click on regional response teams, click on the link guidance, technical assistance, and planning and see if there is a link to avian flu/pandemic flu; because Joe swears there is nothing there and I would hate for him to be wrong AGAIN

Regional Response Team 8 (RRT 8) is the federal component of the National Response System for the states of Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. RRT 8 is made up of representatives of twelve federal departments and agencies, plus each of the six states listed above and a Tribal representative. It is co-chaired by a representative from the Environmental Protection Agency, Region 8 and a representative for the United States Coast Guard.

RRT 8 is a planning, policy, and coordinating body which does not respond directly to the scene of an oil spill or hazardous substance release. It provides assistance as requested to the On-Scene Coordinator during an incident. For a thorough description of both the National Response System and the responsibilities of the Regional Response Team, please visit the National Response Team's web site.

If they're a frontline agency (which is what you'd stated they could replace that Obama/Bush had set up) it would be on their FRONT PAGE

Not buried deep into some regional closet.

CDC front page: Coronavirus links. Everywhere

NRT front page: Nothing. Oil spills

Q.E.D.

NRT did NOT "replace" or "substitute" for the CDC rapid response function set up by Bush and Obama. No matter how many times you want to pretend they did or can. They did not and cannot.

From the site:

We're IN a public health emergency, and ONLY the CDC has timely info on their site. IF NRT was involved, you'd THINK they'd be doing the same.....

AGAIN, your CLAIM was that the NRT was a substitute for the Bush/Obama-era infrastructure. You've posting NOTHING supporting that. Zip. Zero. Nada.
