The reason that a lot of of guys including our guys wrestle like they do! Very few times do you get rewarded for being aggressive. Look at that match, Gillman took at least 10 good shots and Tomasello took one and he wins! The refs did nothing to encourage Tomasello to take another shot or be aggressive. Why would he?

It has become awful. I wonder if you had two takedowns in the 1st period and stalled rest of matches how many you would win.

About 3 years ago I started watching and following closely NHL hockey. Action, action and more action. Unpredictable and the officiating is not a big factor. The excitement level is off the charts if you like extreme 100% effort, toughness and speed.

If you are interested: Pick a team and start to follow; try to pick a playoff team your 1st year if you don't have a favorite already. The way the NHL is set up the league is set up to be very competitive, so you can expect "your team" to be competitive in a short time.

Unbelievably I now look forward more to regular season hockey games than post-season stalling/wrestling. Guess I'm not a real fan.

Logan Steiber disagrees. I'm sorry to use him as an example, but I must.

Dziewa had no answer to Steiber's offense, and Dziewa is the poster boy for slowing down matches against top guys and relying on defense. In short, Steiber negates the argument that defense wins. He tech-falled Dziewa. Those bonus points gave Ohio State their share of the team title. Therefore, offense wins team titles.

We simply need to get better.

You now get more scoring in most NHL HOCKEY games than many D1 championship type matches. Who could have predicted that 30 years ago?

Hey, I'm with you on the overall trend. Stalling needs to be called more actively and the sport gets better.

I'm not going to blame our losses on that though.

I will take this one step further and say Robert Kokesh disagrees. Here is a really good guy who has now become elite and handles a TOUGH weight class. I despise Nebraska but like watching him create angles, win positions and wrestler smart.

Guys like Steiber and Imar have IT and always have. Kokesh has worked for IT. Here goes my rant.

Positive: Glad we won! Good job Hawks! Meh.

Negative: Really need to learn how to open people up including ourselves. I personally have grown tired of the blame game with stalling and I am guilty of it. Not sure how we get over this hump but am ready for us to do it.

I agree. It's frustrating, but unfortunately, a lot of our guys are guilty of it, too. Not many shot attempts between Dziewa, Sorenson, Evans, or Burak, not to mention Moore and Kelly.

The sport is becoming about mistakes-who is going to screw up first and who is going to capitalize on it. Almost like chess...

I personally feel like we are wrestling to not lose. Brands always preaches, "It's yours for the taking. Now go out there and take it!" We haven't been wrestling this way.

All true, but Logan Steiber is a rare talent. Your post is like saying most artists can be as good as Picasso if they just work and train harder.

Good post.

I really thought Kokesh would have had a title by now. He has improved in all positions, but he has always been pretty good from neutral. I hesitate to think what Evans would be like if he would have improved as much as Kokesh has in the last 3 years.

There are always exceptions to rules, but I think it's clear that today's wrestlers are shooting less and stalling more. Look back at some of the vintage matches of the 80's & 90's and see how many times they called stalling. Many of those calls would never be made today. In contrast, if they wrestled like they do now, a lot of today's top wrestlers would regularly be dinged for stalling multiple times before the first period was over.

Like so many of the rest of you, I hate this trend. It's BORING - and the frustrating thing is, it's an easy fix! In fact, if the rules were just enforced, it would take care of most of the problem.

Besides he and IMAR, who else looked dominant in this tourney? Those guys are the exception, not the rule.

125-Defensive wrestler won
133-One total TD in the third period; Taylor gave up points trying a throw at the end
149-No Takedowns at all; returning champ specializes in winning these matches. Our guy not far behind
157-Great Match (the epitome of what college wresting should be)
165-Defensive guy won
174-All tough wrestlers but watching a match between the top four is like watching paint dry anymore
184-Too pissed to watch it
197-MM made Snyder pay so this was good
HWY-Typical match

Last year's NCAAs:

125-Stallgado
133-Ramos wrestled very defensive; finals match got exciting only during OT
141-Streibler
149-TShirt's third OT win
157-Ness wrestled sloppy, AD took advantage
165-DT
174-Stalled his way to the finals, actually took some good shots
184-Ruth
197-No TDs...Heck, I don't think there were any legit shots
HWY-Gwiz won by a two points
