….do people hate Iowa so much? Everybody wants to dog on them. I know I am a fan of the Hawks, but crap, I always thought of us to be a classy, respected, well-liked program.

Where the heck did I go wrong?

I know we have a huge fan base as well, but there is quite a few haters out there?!!

I don't know I guess. Just seems to me after the great 12-1 season (and unfinished business) more people were ready to hate us over schedule, etc. than congratulate the team for their accomplishments.

Coach Ferentz always congratulates the other team, win or loss, right off the bat in his press conferences. Hawk players don't do things that Connor Cook did on Saturday night. That's how you get people to turn on you. Our players are respectful and play respectful. Hard hitting and such but do it legally. Wasn't many targeting penalties on the Hawks this year.

And your comment on Iowa and tOSU is different. People hate teams that win year after year after year. That's not the Hawks. We have had some up and down seasons the past few years and then we had a big one. We busted our butts with 2-3 star players and got it done only to be bashed in the end. Just does not make sense to me. Sorry for venting!!!

take it as a badge of success. The haters and trolls come out in full force win Iowa is doing good. If they were a Houston or even a Boise State from back in the day, they would be media darlings. Heck, look at the praise Memphis was getting earlier this season.

The alternate is not being talked about or trolled..which would mean that Iowa would probably be wrapping up a season with a trip to a mediocre bowl.

Well, if you are a UI wrestling fan you've certainly seen the Tshirt "It's ok, we hate you too"...maybe someone should make a football version.

The 'blue bloods' have A LOT of fans. If you don't have an alma mater or your local school sucks, who ya gonna follow? Alabama, Michigan, Nebraska, Penn St, OSU, FSU, etc. They are the teams that seem to win often. More often than not they are programs that stress winning over academics, ethics, and citizenship.

Iowa is not one of those schools. Fans are largely Alums or Iowans. The program is more honest and modest. As mentioned above, that's OK at 7-5, 8-4, even 9-3. But when Iowa gets into the rarefied air, the blue bloods fans cannot accept it. They believe that questionable recruiting practices, academic fraud, lack of discipline, etc., are what is necessary to win. They want Iowa's relatively clean program to be proven incapable of winning big.

Yes, the blue blood teams have the media in their pocket so they don't like it when a school that isn't one of theirs is in the mix.

Couple that with a team that wont help their ratings...there ya go.

It would take us having a Wisconsin type 6-7 year run starting now to turn the tide a little.

I don't think people hate Iowa. You guys are a tough, hard-hitting team. The only thing I think people dog you guys for is because you're in the B1G West (which isn't even that bad of a division). If you've ever been on the main board, you might have seen Hawkit post a bunch of times. I hate that guy b/c he's the consumate troll, but he's just an obnoxious fan. Overall you guys have a very respectable team. The only thing that cracks me up is the Hawkeye fanbase's hate for MSU and Dantonio. He's not exactly Mr. Affable, but he's a good coach and does things by the book. I know you guys hate the fact that he didn't suspend one of our players for long not enough one year, but I recall a year a few years back where you had a ton of players that were arrested. Seems a bit hypocritical to me. Regardless, haters gonna hate. I personally respect the hell out of your program.

We brought much of it on ourselves by our play in recent years, most notably the HawkSlayer Bowl.

Arrests happen in every program. Arrests are difficult to prevent, so the easiest thing to judge is a coach's reaction to arrests.

Dantonio let Chris Rucker play at Iowa two days after being released from jail due to a drunk driving arrest that was a probation violation. This was after Dantonio announced a "zero tolerance" policy just a couple days beforehand. When questioned about his zero tolerance and Rucker's appearance at Iowa, Dantonio said "I'm not tolerating it." Karma handed MSU a 37-6 loss that day.

Pretty much any Iowa player with a serious charge has been kicked off the team. Desmond King was suspended for a quarter of the Nebraska game for being late to a team meeting. Rucker's DUI/probation violation resulted in zero missed game time.

We did have a rash of players with problems a while back....but they were nearly all booted from the team. Maybe there is an exception, but I can't think of one that wasn't shown the door.

I do not mind it, better to be hated than not talked about at all and irrelevant......ask Nebby how that feels this year
