Wiesy is gone.

Really good player, but he was 15th nationally in three point shooting.

On 158 attempts. Only one player with more attempts shot better from three. Percentage isn’t everything - you can’t tell me you think DaMonte Williams is a better shooter than Wieskamp because he shot a couple percentage points higher on 100 fewer shots, especially when factoring in defensive attention, difficulty of shot, etc.

The most recent mock from the athletic had him going in the late 40’s. It’s hard to see his stock getting much higher.

He will have a fine career in Europe. He has been a great Hawkeye! Best of luck to him!

Maybe he feels the same as we do, the ceiling has been met with Fran's coaching. Love the young man and hope he stays but he'll succeed where ever he goes, or when he goes.
And I will add this, maybe he wants to start a family and feels he needs to start earning paychecks sooner then later...oh by the way I want him to stay for 1 more year just like Luka did....

But what's best for Joe is for him to turn pro.
What’s best for JW is to come back and finish off his career at Iowa by going down as the legend who led the Hawkeyes to their first league title in 40 years, to a Sweet 16 in over 20 yrs, and being named an All-American. Then go play is Europe for 10 years making bank while seeing the world. Jmho.

The NBA dream is just not going to happen for him and he’ll be selling cars in Coralville within five years.

If you are an elite shooter with at least average size and athleticism then you have a chance.
Is he “Korver elite” as a 3 point shooter? (KK has been in The League a long time now...14 years?)
I think his place in the NBA is quite narrow. Unless he has a unique skill the NBA requires...hopefully he has a skill in a foreign language.
BOL...

This thread reminds me of the "experts" who were "in the know" from the Garza thread last summer that all said he was good as gone. Long story short unless Joe, his fiance or parents are posting in this thread I'm sure no one has any credible idea so far through 3 pages on this thread.

Judging by this thread. There are a lot of Cyclone fans with time on their hands trolling as hawkeye fans. Kinda sad really, but when you are the worst team in the P5 for 2 years I kinda get it.

I was a hell of a lot more impressed with Pat Mac than most of the lineup today. Kid has hustle!

Hustle won't make up for that "jump shot". PMac is good (nice intermediate stuff, finisher) and long and has bball smarts but his impact from the arc is limiting in todays game. We just saw the present & future of the top level NCAA game...an essential element is that you gotta be able to shoot...if Weezy is gone where are the shooters next year? CJ?...inconsistent and he'll never make a full season. Kris M?...maybe, yet to be seen if he can transition to games consistently. Joe T?...thousand shots a day all summer (& don't enter the portal!) Joe!! Perkins? Ulis? They don't have any proven, consistent, elite shooters outside of Weezy. His loss will be impactful.

I'm sure it's not Fran's coaching that makes him pass up shots. He's not been aggressive enough consistently

Maybe let the roster settle before judging. I expect Iowa will hit the grad transfer market.

Aside from that, CJ is an elite shooter when healthy, Sandfort is elite and Murray will be solid.

Are we sure CJ comes back? There are Twitter rumblings he’s looking to transfer. Who knows at this point who’s back and who isn’t.

There will be a lot of rumors. And I'm guessing this team will look quite a bit different next year whether the rumors are or aren't true.

They have to find some way to build back all the self esteem they've lost.

0-18 burns to the heart.

Sandfort may be an elite shooter but I don't think he as athletic as Wieskamp. How he transitions to college will be interesting.

The amount of Wieskamp disrespect on this board is astonishing.
No kidding. The kid's going to have a long career as a pro, and he absolutely has a chance in the NBA. As an Illini fan, it's plain as day, so I'm not sure how someone can root for the kid for his entire collegiate career and throw so much disrespect on a very talented guy that brought a workman-like demeaner every day. He's as Iowa as a player comes, and he should be celebrated for his contributions.

Much respect to Wieskamp. I'd take one of him on my team happily.

I think he will definitely test the waters. If he gets invited to the combine, I think there is a good chance he is gone. He had an amazing season and I think at worst he is a GL player next year.

Not calling a leaving Garza, weezy, JBo addition by subtraction, but I can see another 20-22 win team next year too. Just redistributed points.
If people around Garza and Wiesy couldn't get points with the open looks they were given, due to teams loading up on Garza, how do you think points are going to get redistributed?

If nunge can stay on the floor i could see him at closer to 18ppg given starters minutes. Hoping cjf can also stay healthy as him and keegan should both be in the 12-15 range. Also think joeT will be around 8-10. It’s a real bitch that what should be our top2 returning players are both injury prone. This is all based off joew being gone
I do not see Iowa getting 42-48 points a game out of Nunge, CJF, and Keegan.

Same jackwagons said JBo was transferring too. Trolls with no life.
I thought the same thing but didn’t JBO come out and say he actually considered. Granted, I’m sure he was in the dumps mentally because of his hip issues but turned out there was some truth behind it.

He’s at worst the 3rd best player in Fran Era. It’s a fight for 2nd between him and Uthoff. If Joe were to return he would finish top 5 in points scored.

There are no guarantees but the numbers Wieskamp put up this year a very comparable to Korver in college. You don't think the NBA requires great 3pt shooting? Have u been under a rock the last 2 decades?

You really think he can stroke it like Korver from NBA 3 distance? Honest question.

Korver is a great 3 point shooter...and was so in college...that is my point...KK is in the The League because he is a great shooter from long range...you think Weiskamp is of the same ilk? Korver was no “ slasher” in college like Weiskamp...he Was strictly a shooter at Creighton. I am no clarevoient but I see Weezy speaking a foreign language in his future.

I don't know, i think he has a real chance with his skill set. There are guys who seemed way less talented who carved out decent careers. It will mostly come down to a combination of opportunities/situation as well as work ethic. If it doesn't workout he will make a lot of money in Europe and he can still finish his degree if he so chooses. I just don't see how another year of college is going to help him.

They are closet ISU fans. Notice when you call them out for it they tend to not respond. Thanks for the kind words!

Aaron White was a pretty good player too. But top 4 is nothing to be ashamed of.

Wieskamp shot about 50% of his FG attempts from beyond the arc this year. That's significant, and so what if he is playing overseas in a few years? He'll be getting paid handsomely to do so. You really think another year at iowa is going to magically make him more prepared to play in the NBA?

JW is an excellent college player but I don't think people realize how difficult and rare it is to break into the NBA. Think about how many games this year that the Hawks played where you could say that JW was the most talented player on the floor and that's a very tiny subset of the players out there. Now consider the rest of the world. Highly unlikely that JW makes a career in the NBA. There is however an excellent possibility that he, along with Luka can do very well overseas. That's where my money is at as far as where they both land.
