Will Elon be the next speaker of the House?

marge is all in!

That makes no sense. Either the republicans are in disarray and can’t agree on a speaker, or a spending bill, or they’re a bunch of sheep who just fall in line behind the majority leader. So which is it? You people need to get your talking points straight.
Your mistake is believing they’re listening to Johnson. The majority of them are listening to Trump/Musk, and as of yesterday, only 38 realize that’s not a smart move.

Don’t try to make this make sense, I actually feel a small amount of sympathy for Johnson; we’ve seen for a decade plus now that trying to control the GOP caucus is like trying to herd cats in the same direction.

A common mistake I see more and more people making is that they somehow think Elon Musk would want a full time government role...

The DOGE role is all he wants. It's basically the most powerful consulting position in the world... He can dig into everything, give an opinion and go back to running his other massive companies...

He doesn't want to be a politician, he just wants all the perks... Why would he want anything else?
He’s an egomaniac. Can’t possibly be wrong about anything.
That is how he manages. No matter the idea he gets 100% behind it no questioning. Which is awesome if you have many irons in the fire. With multiple companies. A couple hits allows you to forget about all of the failures.
Government is different by design. Failures aren’t as simple to say o well. Time for bankruptcy that idea didn’t work.

It's not really that different. Musk says 'if you aren't failing 20% of the time you're not trying hard enough.' If 80% of the things Tesla, or SpaceX do create a positive or neutral result, they're going to be pretty successful.

How much waste do you believe is in the federal government? If he's even right 40% of the time in making cuts to the federal government we'll be better off.

So to your point, think of all departments of the federal government as a different company. It's not as if he's going to mess up the entire federal government, it's more likely he'll mess up parts of some departments, but make a lot of improvements in some to most departments. He can fall FAR short of perfection and leave things better than he found them.

Off to a great start! What other useless spending will they decide to cut?? MURICA!

Tell that to anyone that might be relying on FEMA, FFA, VA, SSD, etc. if they fail at a 20% rate the consequences are way worse than taking Chapter 11 or 7.

There are 2 key differences between a company and the federal government, one is that Elon/Trump are in charge of their companies (forget if Trump resumed CEO status after ‘20). What they say is ultimately the only thing that matters, there’s no checks on them. Someone disagrees with them, they get fired if necessary. The other is that companies are meant to make money.

That’s not how government. POTUS has checks on his power, and has to negotiate to get policies enacted, which are also subject to judicial review.

Why was it a smart move to vote against that bill? What is so god awful about forcing the government to get by on less, just like everyone else?

Listening to Trump/musk is what’s not smart. Did you notice that they magically removed things from the bill that Elon didn’t like, like restrictions against investing in china?

And this is par for the course for Trump, he knows nothing about governing. All he cares about is doing this now, so he can blame Biden instead of waiting a month when he’s on the clock.

And nothings awful about wanting to make spending cuts - I assume you’re not cool with the pay raise and hike to defense budget right? But cuts have to be smart, and obviously you have to have the votes to do it.

If republicans are genuinely serious about cuts and reducing the deficit, that means negotiating. The first bill was a bipartisan compromise. This second one had nothing for Dems, so they voted no…along with. 38 republicans.

What does restrictions on investing in China have to do with simply funding the government? If you need to fund the government, present a bill that does that. If you want to restrict investment in China, bring it up in its own bill.

Well, they had it in the original for a reason. Then Elon killed the bill and it was magically gone. That doesn’t seem like a coincidence to me.

I imagine Fox Opinion Network will blame the Dems if an agreement isn't reached!

President Musk needs to have another press conference and put his young son in his shoulders again.
Good prop.

Oh, and BTW, sober_babysitter, we didn’t vote for bipartisanship. If we did, Romney or some other such invertebrate would have been the candidate.
Wow, you really cut me deep there with that childish nickname. How will I ever go on…what a dick.

The irony is Romney wins this election in a landslide.

It’s politics. Compromise is the name of the game. GOP majority in the House is razor-thin until the empty seats get filled and even then is only 5 assuming they win all special elections. Bipartisanship may not be what you voted for, but you’re going to have a hard time keeping that clownshow together. Senate can only lose a couple votes as well for budget bills, and you are in fact going to need democratic votes to get to 60 otherwise.

You're turning into a mini-phenom

If the DNC was good at messaging they would be lining up members of Congress to go on Fox News all weekend so they can talk about President Musk and how he is pulling the strings on Donnie and the House Republicans.
Fox has built its audience by providing what they want. The last thing they would do is allow some Dems on. Whenever anyone steps out of line Trump rages against them. They just fired Neil Cavuto, and he was about the only person left at Fox who only fluffed Trump 95 percent of the time.
