Will the B1G flop in the 2022 NCAA tourney?

Iowa takes the reigns from Illinois last year as biggest choke job of B1G in NCAA...if B1G flops again, then maybe they get the bids cut down a lot.

Indiana in Wyoming game, shot like...Iowa...but they had TJD to bail them out with 29. Unfortunately, Keegan
was not Keegan today.

I think Purdue might make a run...but they are flawed with poor defense and turnover prone.

I agree the WCC is tougher than most have given credit for, but Indiana had no chance in this game. Play a basketball game, get on a plane for 6 hours and 3 time zones away, then tip off about 43 hours after your last game ended and play a rested team. Ridiculous.

Would agree. If they're going to have the first 4 games in Dayton, they need to send the winners to a pod that's relatively close to there.

Hasn't one team out of first four usually made a run? They all have to play on qucik turn around....ucla did it last year.

The way Indiana looked vs Wyoming....basically a 1 man team and then getting destroyed...and Iowa struggled to put away Indiana and then Iowa losing to a nobody....I think Iowa just too flawed. We needed a rim protector/rebounder instead of Rebraca who wasn't a defender or a scorer. JBO also would not play more than spot minutes on a good team.

I'm thinking no more than 4 make it past the 1st round, no more than 3 to the sweet 16, and maybe 1 to the elite 8. I don't see any final 4 teams at this point.
Sounds about right, Illinois should count their lucky stars the are even playing on Sunday. I think Houston rolls them though, so their gig will be up. I think Purdue has all the pieces to be that one to make to the elite 8...

I was close in my predictions. 6 advanced instead of my predicted 4, with Illinois and Michigan State scraping by.

B1G wasn’t that good this year and Iowa had what I thought was a pretty easy schedule. In fact, I recall talking about this during the season and somebody pointed out we can get that data. Did Iowa actually have an easy schedule in conference?

Don’t know about overall but it was definitely easier down the stretch than at the beginning of BIG play.

After the gigantic egg we laid, I don't really care. As it is, I have a difficult rooting for teams we've battled with all season. Screw the B1G. They've rarely done Iowa any favors (although we will happily accept their cash!).
One thing I respect about the B1G fans versus other conferences fans, we don't root for other B1G teams. I have far too many SEC friends and they tout the other teams in their conference as their own success, example an Auburn fan cheering for Alabama to win NCG... that's not a true rivalry especially when it is happening at such a large scale. Only the B1G has authentic rivalries at this point. I'll never cheer for another B1G team, regardless of conference image, that is ridiculous.

If Purdue makes'3 and does't turn the ball over, they have a shot at final4. Especiall with Kentucky and
Baylor out of the mix.

Michigan 68 - Tennessee 64 with 2:01 left. Tenn ball. Tennessee was another 'hot' team coming into the tourney.

Charles Barley was pretty confident the SEC had the best 4 teams in NCAA tourney. I like Charles, but he
is a contra-indicator with Kentucky, LSU, and Tennessee now out.

Michigan will have tought time with Villanova.

B1G really needs a Final 4 team to be legit.

The kick in the nuts will be a final 4 with all B10 teams! We will be on the outside looking in as usual... We are a bunch of fat kids with no money just looking in the candy store window longing for a taste.

Conferences don't win games, teams do. It's a fun narrative, but doesn't explain everything. Who had Michigan, who lost their coach to suspension and limped to the end of the season (losing early in the conference tourney) taking out one of the hottest teams in the nation, who just won their conference tourney?

Michigan is playing well (now) and Tennessee picked a bad time to not play as well and shoot poorly. Same as Kentucky, Alabama, and LSU. Oh, and Iowa. Dammit! I thought I was past it ... :(

Yeah, I hope Auburn goes down - Barley was really talking them up...

Conferences in media/general opinion are judged by how many teams make the Final-4 and who wins
the national title. That is my observation. Same with football, SEC on top because the win championships.

B1G basketbal has been considered to be "down" because it has not had a team win National title since 2000 and hasn't had a final-4 team since 2015. A a P5 conference, one would expect more championships/final 4s if B1G were truly a Top5 conference.

Michigan has a little run...whether it morphs into more, we shall see.

Again, that talk about conferences is done by national media that don't really watch the games all year long. They are lazy and just look at the results at the end and judge it there, because it is easy. The need for sports networks to fill time really has taken the narratives to an all time lazy level ... in my mind.

When Michigan made the Final 4 a few years back (2018), they needed a buzzer beater to beat Houston in the second round. That one shot changed the narrative for Michigan's entire season. Crazy to me.

I agree Big Ten basketball is down compared to a few years ago (or back in the 80s, 90s, and 00s). But, I believe college basketball overall is watered down with the players leaving early, and scholarship limits. The effect of NIL will be interesting.
