He was a 165 lbder last year and I know was a handful for Marinelli. Looked very big for 165. I noticed he is at 184 this year. Quite the bump up.

I believe he was projected at 184 when he originally verballed to PSU . . . maybe 174 is a better weight for him (except Plott is there) . . . 165 certainly raised eyebrows for the size of the cut it represented.

He had a OkSt sized cut to hit 165. I'm guessing on full feed and hitting the weights he could be a good sized but not huge 184. He spent some time at 195 in high school. He was a handful for anyone in the Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada area.

Don't you mean before Karl recruited over him in favor of Aaron Brooks after Travis' injury and Brooks replaced him on the Cadet World Team and won gold? 😉

I considered that approach, but decided to give the overly sensitive sub-population of the board a break (it was pretty early on a Monday morning).

Okie State has been messed up for years regarding weight cuts according to many here.

As great a HC as Smith is, to me, it looks like it's long past time for a change in Stillwater.

slush go look at the kade blume thread a thread dealing with very sensitive stuff, on that thread 2 pst posters are messaging each other back and forth about when each graduated and each others family and alot of other crap that psters should not be posting on hr on a thread of that subject matter. if you fail to see the irony of this then you are as clueless as they are

Is it that your tutor charges per word to read HR posts out loud to you?

Speaking of irony, it’s pretty amusing (in a morbid way) seeing a poster named OILCHECKER posting his thoughts in that thread.

I actually didn’t really care for where the convo went, either . . . but I think it would be a more effective way to communicate your thoughts on the subject if you shared them in that thread with the specific individuals/posts with which yoi take issue.

As for this thread . . . as noted, Wittlake was a former PSU verbal — makes sense that PSU fans might have some insight on his history.

and john was right. his best quality was that he was enormous at 165. he's not a very good 184.

no. it got him hurt. We can all stop acting like Okiest wrestlers are bonus point machines and have great records. Other than Daton, who has been the last Okiest wrestler to do WELL for a full season (bonus points when they should, never lose to lesser ranked wrestlers, not hurt come NCAAs)? Dieringer

Having guys pull 40lb weight cuts is beyond idiotic. And John is getting the exact product of his weight cutting beliefs. Up and down performances, injuries at the end of the season.

Wittlake at 184 is better considering the sheer amount of hard training that they do. He hasn't developed much, so expecting him to be "better" makes no sense. They have lifestyle and burnout issues. But, at the least, in general, when guys go up at okiest, they've ALWAYS done better.

Gfeller has said he was over 200lbs and he looks good at 157 . You do understand these guys look really fat at those weights. Cleaning up the diet will do wonders and no beer

look at his results at 184. he was much better at 165. can he still make it? probably not, but john was right for wanting him there.

no argument from me on okie state guys. john may be near the end of the line here. not adapting to the times and not getting good results.

Agreed his results were better at 165.

BUT. a couple caveats. He placed 4th in 2021. Covid year was watered down AND less training/competition time. He's always been a big 165.

Retirement weight is a bit different. LOL. But yes. Okiest guys are known for getting big in the offseason, due both to their strength program and their BAC.
