Woman's portal target maybe???

Oh boy, we gotta go after her if we can. If we see any Iowa interest though, we know someone is transferring. This girl though, great numbers!

Hawkeye fans outnumber all other fans combined trying to recruit her here on her Twitter feed.
It's kind of pathetic tbh. We seem so desperate for a team that just went to the NC.

Raoul also remarked that it was sad how so many of our fans are tweeting about pushing people out.

I get that but we need to help Caitlin right now to potentially keep her the extra year. We need to keep momentum going to have a chance to stay in this zone. Also, the rumors are already out there that we have two potential transfers going out anyway, if that's the case and the coaches know it, why not go after a player of this caliber.

I seriously doubt Bluder is the type of coach to force a player to transfer regardless. She'll only go after a player if she knows a transfer out is coming imo.

Shikreto, it’s not desperate, it’s that many fans realize we have the best player in the NCAA and if we can surround her with a few other great players, we have a legitimate chance at actually winning a national championship. Those chances don’t come around very often.

Are you referring to the "rumor" I posted about on Cyclone Fanatic?

Morrow knows who Iowa is and who Clark is. Bluder and staff know the portal and our personnel.

No amount of tweeting "HEY BLUDER DID YOU SEE THIS" and "COME TO IOWA!!!!" is going to make a difference.

If you wanna muse, dream, complain on message boards, be my guest, that's the place for it.

But on Twitter, we look desperate.

There are suggestions that some scholarship players with enough NIL deals give up the scholarship and play as walk ons. Imagine the best player in the whole country is a walk on at Iowa...

Sure, very possible.
Yeah my best guess was that someone on CF saw someone here say that they think 2 people will transfer and so they said "they heard a rumor." I commented here knowing full well that might be the case.

Yes, that's why I wouldn't post on Twitter so I do agree with you. I too personally think it's pointless and weird quite frankly. I think the youth treats it differently, at least, some of them do. You just never know.

Lol, never mind then.

Yeah this is actually a semi-interesting possibility. Does anyone know what the NCAA's rules are on this? Do walk-on players count toward the 15 player max? When I first saw someone suggest this I thought there was no way in hell that'd work b/c the NCAA rarely makes exceptions or lets schools get creative and a walk-on would count toward 15.

But then I realized Football and other sports have lots of walk-ons, so there must be a precedent/policy, this surely isn't some fuzzy never-before-floated idea. I would assume that if it's allowable in football, it's allowable in WBB. So does anyone know the deal?

Iowa assistant coach Raina Harmon started following her on Twitter... 👀
This is the only post that matters in this thread so far...VERY interesting.

I’m not on twitter, I’m not dreaming I’m not complaining, I’m merely stating a valid reason. Just like I did the other about Ava. not sure where you are going with this. If it is true that there are likely 2 transfers, no idea who they are, it would open up some spots.

I bet Clark would be the type of player that would do it too.

I was responding to a comment that said "Hawkeye fans outnumber all other fans combined trying to recruit her here on her Twitter feed" b/c it's true -- the number of Iowa fans who R/T'd her post tagging Bluder and/or otherwise begging her to come to Iowa is ridiculous. Including some who said things like "Someone has got to go" or "Bluder needs to make room" "Bluder needs to have some tough conversations" etc etc...causing even Raoul to take note and post about it.

I’m not for pushing players out and I’m glad our coaches aren’t either. Since she’s really good and our state is enamored by women’s basketball at the moment, I would think they could entice her with some NIL offers that would more than cover a scholarship. Of course when one opens up it’s hers. Not saying it would for sure work but for a player like this it’s worth a shot if there are no scholarships in play to at least try. Maybe Monica’s NIL deals could be handed over to her?

Again, do you know if this is allowed? I'm genuinely curious. If we can actually have a walk-on on the roster (and PLAY), that is a total game-changer. Bluder can and will make the magic work for the right kid. There's the will and there's booster/NIL money here for it. Before today, I didn't think there was any chance of this being a possibility -- I assumed 15 was the limit, whether you're a walk-on, red-shirt, or playing 40 a game.

I'd love to know if anyone knows the actual policy....

I know we all want a 6’5” athletic center, but this girl looks like she could take Warnock’s role more than adequately. They are the same height.

I honestly didn’t think that counted towards walk ons and assumed walk ons would be in addition to the 15. Excellent point though and sorry I didn’t realize that’s what others were referring to. The article below is the best I could find about roster spots and it still doesn’t answer the question completely but it still seems like a possibility in my mind. Maybe you’ll find something in there though that I’m not seeing.

Unfortunately, what I was looking up said 15 was the max allowed on the full roster for both men's and women's including any walk ons preferred or not. It doesn't sound like Iowa can get her without someone else transferring away first. That was my interpretation of what I read.

No offense but I hope you’re wrong. Where did you read this btw? I wasn’t able to find anything concrete when I did a quick search.

If Iowa is following this girl, they may already be aware of someone, or more, potentially wanting to transfer though so it may be a moot point. We also don't know how the Ava Jones thing will play out either even though right now it looks like she's still occupying a roster spot. I've a feeling that she'll be getting a free ride in some other capacity when it's all said and done but that may be in a year or two so who knows.

I hope I'm wrong too.
It contradicts itself in a couple areas so idk what to think. I would think with letting players have an extra Covid year they would increase roster spots temporarily but that’s just my opinion. I have no knowledge they’ve done this or plan to. It doesn’t seem like a very reliable source at this point in time considering it doesn’t say for sure when this article was written either.

“In college basketball, there are 13 players that can be on the bench during the game.” It then goes on to say both men’s and women’s are limited to 13 scholarships, which we know is not true, the women get 15.

You’d think they would have made something like this very clear though with the advent of NIL. I haven’t been able to find anything online that confirms or denies you can have more than 15 on the roster.

With all the surgeries she’s had I could see her taking a gap year for recovery purposes and then enrolling a year later. Maybe she’s already stated she for sure plans to enroll this fall though? IMO I feel a gap year where she can continue to recover and get stronger without having to worry about classes may increase her chances of being able to play some day though.

The NCAA only allowed the extra roster spots in the '21-'22 year. Some programs had 17 or 18. After that, they had to make cuts, some were painful (i.e., WV had to tell a HS kid he couldn't honor her 'ship, b/c he wanted a senior back for a 5th yr).

But yeah, overall this article seemed to not really be reliable, unfortunately. I saw multiple inaccurate statements including the one you mention above.

Thanks for clearing this up! Sorry if I gave some of you false hope 😕

Sometimes a player doesn’t improve or project to improve the way you thought they would. Sometimes a player can’t come to the realization that they won’t get the playing time that they would elsewhere. So sometimes the coach has to tell the player that even though they don’t want to.
