What a ballsy effort Woody, you played your heart out. Look forward to watching your last few games in an Iowa uniform.
For three years, I was pretty hard on him and couldn't wait for senior night. Next Tuesday will be hard to watch and not shed a small tear for a young man who has given Iowa everything he has for every game in a Hawkeye uniform as well as representing the University well. Expectations were probably too high for him and he may have limitations as to his physical gifts compared to many players in college, but he plays with max effort every time he comes on the court. Thanks to Adam for four years, finish strong over the next month and good luck wherever you go after Iowa City.
The podcast with Kenyon Murray includes an interesting comment from Murray regarding Woody's high school ranking.
He finally has found his game. Hard noise player, tough D and rebounds. Limited on offense.
Fran continues to show his poor coaching skills during the last 4 minutes of a game. I bet that games that are 5 points or left in the last four minutes, Fran team is out scored two to one. It's impossible to say enough good things about the effort Woodbury gave against the Badgers. THAT"S what competing is all about. Nothing too fancy, just old fashioned effort. Woody wanted those 18 rebounds more than anyone else on the floor. It's a huge disappointment that Woody's example wasn't enough for many of his teammates. Watching the Badgers swagger in to town and embarrass the Hawkeyes was maddening. Those dunks still get my blood boiling. And too many Hawkeyes just stood there and let it happen. But not Woodbury.
As for Fran, I guess that letter KF wrote to him explained how to save your TOs.
Fran has two former head coaches as assistants, so you have three experienced folks on the bench and NONE of them knows enough to call a TO to give Woody a break and interrupt Bucky's mojo?! I have to agree with the posters who are questioning Fran's coaching vs. Wisconsin. Hey, there is plenty to like about Fran, but I'd suggest his coaching during the bye week and the Wisconsin game was even worse than Iowa's horrible second half shooting.
Let's hope everyone in the Hawkeye camp learned some lessons Wednesday night and that Iowa will start over with renewed energy, enthusiasm, grit, and intelligent coaching in Columbus on Sunday. At least a share of the league title is still there for the taking. A conference tourney title is still there for the taking. And a big run in the NCAA can still happen. But the status quo on the floor and on the bench ain't gonna get it done.
