Woodson has choice words about Fran incident with bench

Fran took a stroll during the B1G Tournament, too, to see why all of the officials were huddling with the IU coaches.

As you can see in the last tweet, he wanted to get a ref's attention and the only way to do it was to visit the IU bench where all the refs were hanging out. ;)

Why does IU try to cheat and gain influence with the refs? ;)

Indiana is the Nebraska of NCAA Basketball. Once a power, now no more relevant than a hundred other teams.
They’re not a powerhouse anymore, but comparing them to Nebraska football is a bit of hyperbole.

Indiana basketball has actually won conference championships and advanced to Final Fours since Y2K. Nebraska football went 9-4 during the Polini years.

Watch this.

Looks like the T was given to the IU assistant.

McCaffrey shouldn’t have gone over and deserved the T, but the point about trash officiating from Lil’ Larry and crew stands. With as much money as the conference brings in, you would think they could afford to adequately train and hire better officials. Yes, I get officiating is hard and mistakes will be made, but the overall quality has been terrible for a lot of years now.

For me, it’s practically made college basketball unwatchable.

Sidebar - they need to reduce Carver to about 11k, put up some poshy rooms with couches and recliners around the top to get the donors away from the floor. The place would be rockin'

in the radio pregame show Fran & Dolph talked about CHA being 40 years old. They talked about the renovation that occurred. Then Fran said another one is coming. Gary didn't follow up.

Woodson is such a whiney B, Fran can go over there if he wants and for eye sore really? DO yout think the same of all the other coaches who do far worse but don't get any crap for it? Give me a break dude coaches do far worse than Fran always get a free pas...
I'm a big Fran fan, but no he can't just go over to the opposing team coaching box if he wants to. I thought the refs showed restraint in that whole situation last night, not giving a T to the Indiana assistant or to Fran.

I don't know if it's a hard and fast rule, but generally assistant coaches are not allowed to speak to the refs about what is going on in the game, that's only the head coaches. Fran seemed perturbed that the assistant was getting a lengthy discussion with the ref about a call.

Fran's T in the first half was fairly routine. He had a purpose for it. Halfway through the first half and Indiana didn't have a foul called. Sandfordt got bumped a bit while making a layup, no call. That had been called several times when Indiana had gone to the rim. Fran made his point, and immediately after Indiana got called for a moving screen on offense and hand-check on defense.

Woodson in post-game was ridiculous as well. "I'm not going to comment" but then he goes ahead and comments. And then insinuating that the play Thompson got hurt on was a dirty play by Murray. Go away.

I thought it was closer to mid court and as you said only the head coaches can talk to refs like that and the ref allowing it to continue was stupid and going to set off any coach like that.

I think there are plenty of times when Fran's antics have crossed the line, and going over to the opposing team's coaching box last night was a bit of a risk. However, at that point in the game, I don't think he could afford to risk letting the Indiana coaches curry favor with the refs. It was imperative for him to inject himself into the conversation, and wandering that far down the sideline was the only way to do it. Like I said, it was a risk, as he could easily have been T'd up. But it would have been a bigger risk to let the conversation the Indiana coaches were having with the refs continue without Iowa being represented.

The bigger problem, imho, was Connor jumping into the fray after Fran retreated. Even Kris gave Connor a shove after that.

Mike is such a good sport. Check out the handshake line

What a turd. I think handshake lines are overrated, but if that is what is being done, suck it up and walk through it.

No one is bigger than the game.

And yes, I agree with what Fran did when he pulled the whole team out of the line a couple years ago (Minnesota?), that was a read of the moment, avoiding what could have gotten ugly.

Last night Goodson was just being a bitch.

I think it's funny.

Did Fran walking over there cause Woodson and his team to cough up a 21-point lead? Or to give up 91 points to an undermanned Iowa team? Instead of worrying about himself it seems like he let Fran get in his head.

It's a good day when Iowa wins, and a great one when we beat a red team.

He did it once against ISU.

Who are you going to put in the donor's seats? the 150 students that show up to games? Oh yeah, if you give them good seats, they will show up. Unless it is cold, hot, dry, raining, or a Thursday night when the bars have good specials. Or semester break.

I know two things:

1. There's a fine line between pumping your team up and costing your team the game, and Fran got PRETTY close to crossing that line when he went over to the Indiana huddle.

2. If Fran came on a presser after losing a game and said another coaches actions were "bullshit" and another coach should've been "thrown out," Fran would get absolutely SHREDDED TO PIECES by the media. I've barely seen anything about Woodson's comments. Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even get fined.
