Egg prices are too high! Ground beef costs too much! The economy is trash. That is what MAGA stated was a primary reason Trump was reelected.

Early reports are now showing "Adobe Inc on Saturday showed that Americans spent roughly $10.8 billion online on Friday, up 10.2% from a year earlier." And since inflation isn't 10%, but more in the 2.x% range, apparently we can afford shit for Xmas, but not an omelette. I guess the libs just spent a lot of money this winter while MAGA is preparing for the War on Christmas.

Curious what folks think the disconnect is. I'll hang up and listen...

And for the record, I do think it was a smattering of reasons that Trump won, it wasn't just the Libs forcing kids to have sex changes without their parents permission.

Does it matter anymore? Libs should just get on with their lives.

i got roped in to go to one of the more popular shopping centers on friday since the iowa kickoff was for later in the day. i was absolutely astounded at the crowds. cars in 2 lanes lined up on the main road past a set of traffic lights just to get into the parking lot. maybe it's like that every black friday (i usually don't go) but my first reaction was things must not be as bad as some make it out to be if people are spending like drunks unless everyone's getting ahead of the tariffs...

Derp.

I think Oprah would have won without breaking a sweat.

The problem was the particular black woman we're talking about.
No. It wasn't. The process by which it came about? Sure... I can hear that argument. Was she a perfect candidate? No one is. Look at the dipshit in chief we are getting.

There are other cultural reasons as well for Trump's reelection...Pushback on a condescending leberal attitude, restless and misguided young males, etc. but it's a copout to say Kamala would have been a worse choice.

Malls and stores were packed this weekend. As usual, it looked mostly like people for whom the price of groceries would be very relevant.

Priorities, man!

My farm fresh egs cost $2.50 per dozen. We us 3-4 dozen a month, so a total of $10.00 per month I keep waiting for Trump Inc. to scare me into thinking egg prices are going to break me. I bought regular gas for my pick-up in town over the weekend, it was $2.79 a gallon. I still plan on having a Merry Christmas.

Some of these families are eating 3 to 4 dozen eggs a day.

NO ONE LIKED HER! She was one of the first candidates to drop out of the primaries because no one voted for her. The ONLY reason she became VP was because of Biden's misguided promise to pick a woman of color. Well, that narrowed the field quite a bit.

There are excuses and there are reasons. Every “reason” MAGA tries to give for their vile voting is an excuse. The reason is hate.

Yes, I hate politicians who use word salad to non-respond to questions about how much money is going to be extracted from my wallet.

Trump sucks, too. It's just that Kamala is worse.

This was part of the challenge with inflation. People just kept spending like crazy regardless of high prices. Almost like the economy was booming the whole time. The fed had to slow the economy down to get the inflation rate in check.

Maybe people should have spent all of that money on the eggs they apparently can't afford instead of buying that new house or car.

The economy and inflation argument was a perfect example of how horrible Democrats were / are at messaging and combating organized disinformation. The economy is and was great in 2024. Inflation was and is under control in 2024. The stock market was great in 2024. Gas prices were down. Housing market was stabilized after going down a bit which was good.

Yet about 65% of the American people believed the economy was horrible and went into voting booth convinced we were basically in a recession due to disinformation / no information (those that do none of their own actual research and get info from others). It’s pretty pathetic really.

So very funny to see this miraculous recovery. I hope the Dems can at least go all in on pointing out how great everything was in 2024 and launch a site tracking everything on how it was the day before inauguration so we can track as we watch it burn.

Consumer confidence. Whether it happens or not, people are gambling that inflation is going to come down, interest rates will fall, and people just have more faith in a Trump economy than a Biden one.

I don't really hate anyone. I get annoyed by the hardcore lefties on here, but I don't hate them.

Losing American democracy matters to some of us. All the signs are there. Every American should be bothered by Trump’s cabinet picks. Not to mention we elected a rapist felon conman president. But again, we’re a stupid nation.
That’s the angle you’re still going with?
Are these same people telling you we won’t have a democracy the same ones that told you Biden was fit for another term and instead they nominated Harris without voting? Or maybe they are the same people that told you Joe wouldn’t pardon his son Hunter. Or was it the same people telling you how racist and sexist MAGA and Trump are yet he’s already putting woman and other ethnic groups into high ranking positions.
Grow up all ready and face the facts that your cult lost and America is trying to move forward.

I don’t think they realize that Biden would have lost if he stayed in the race as well. It’s not just that people voted for Trump over Harris because of race. It’s that they voted for Trump over the liberal POS candidates they were running.

The economy was an excuse for people who didn't want to admit they didn't want to vote for a black woman.
There was discussion in 2023 as to whether Biden should dump Harris as VP because she was actually polling worse than he was. Then the Biden/Trump debate happened and Kamala became the best candidate of all time, and to suggest otherwise meant you were misogynistic racist.

Yet most Democratic operatives believe that sticking with Biden is the party’s best option. And it’s hard to argue with this assessment for a simple reason: However bad Biden’s numbers are, Vice-President Kamala Harris’s look worse. A CBS News–YouGov poll released last week found 42 percent of Americans saying that the job Harris is doing makes them think worse of the Biden administration, compared to just 18 percent who said it makes them feel better about the White House. Among independents, 48 percent said worse and only 9 percent better. Even among Democrats, only 41 percent said Harris made them think better of the administration. At the same time, only 30 percent of Democrats said that they felt “enthusiastic” about Harris being Biden’s running mate.
...
To be sure, replacing Harris with another running mate is not a great option. It’s just that Democrats have no good ones. It is risky to switch out the first Black and female vice-president for someone else. But it is also risky to saddle an 81-year-old nominee with an exceptionally unpopular running mate who — if all goes well — will be all but guaranteed the party’s nomination in 2028. Democrats should not let status-quo bias prevent them from examining whether the latter option isn’t the worse one. And if they are truly convinced that there is no alternative to a Biden-Harris ticket, they at the very least need to make a more concerted effort at rehabilitating the vice-president’s image. The point of a running mate is to make your party’s ticket more palatable to the electorate. Right now, all signs suggest that Harris is doing the opposite.

Didn’t millions of chickens have to be put down because of bird flu?
As of July 2024, over 95 million chickens, turkeys, and other poultry have been killed and disposed of in the United States since the bird flu outbreak began in February 2022:
