Watching the game I kept thinking to myself how bad Iowa looked especially on defense almost looked unprepared especially with the missed tackles and giving up big chunk plays snap after snap….And that’s before even talking about the first half offense. What are some of your worst losses that come to mind in the KF era.

Forgot to add my answer. One that just jumps out to me is @Minnesota 2010, nothing was really at play so it wasn’t a meaningful game but that Minnesota team was trash and Iowa flat out quit on the season.

I know someone on the 2006 team who said KF went absolutely nuts on the team at half vs the Gophers in the last game of the year with their lack of effort and attitude. He said it was the worst ass chewing he gave in his time at Iowa.

Tate was benched for the 2nd half in his last regular season game.

That Western Michigan senior day game is up there. The 44-7, “debacle in the desert” always sticks with me….but that team was great after that.

As far as just gut wrenching losses….the one to Michigan that snapped the home winning streak in Kinnick will always be up there.

Recently, I’m not sure you can add last nights as it was par for the course….another game against decent competition where the hawks were never really in it. MSU scored 8 times, if a couple more are TD’s that game is a blowout.

I would love if someone could track games through the KF era where Iowa was, at least, a 5pt favorite and lost by >5pts.

Seems most years there's at least one per season.

Then again, it's one of the reasons he's lost more games than any HC in Iowa football history.

That got me thinking so I looked it up. Kirk Ferentz has lost the second most games of anyone who coached an entire career at one single D1 school. First place? Joe Paterno. 136 to 122. Joe Paterno coached two more decades and also won some championships....

Kirk has the all time Big Ten losses sewed up. Closest behind him is Fitz.

Iowa State this year.

Lots of good ones mentioned with western Michigan being the worst and isu thus year a close second. Last nights loss doesn’t even register. That wasn’t a terrible team we list to last night. Heck, their losses are against osu, Oregon and Boston college. Not bad losses at all.

314-199! Career record as football coach.

I looked on Wikipedia.
But that was his record at all the schools he was at, not just Chicago.
Lost 111 at Chicago.
Kirk still beat him for losses.
Some of the Chicago losses are probably before the B1G existed, so it’s possible Fitz is #2.

For me it was the loss to Sparty in the championship game. It wasn’t so much that we lost, it was the way we lost. Like around a 9:00 drive with some 4th down conversions. The only positive from that game is it saved us from playing Alabama.

I was unhappy for about a week after that. Thank goodness the Rose Bowl was canceled later, as we might have lost to Stanford.

2014 vs. ISU

Terrible loss to an absolutely pathetic team. ISU’s QB was on a bum ankle and our answer was to make sure he never had to move all day.

Didn’t ISU go O-fer in the Big 12 that year?
