Would rather have Dale Jones for a year than Nunge at all

If there was ever a guy who is likely to transfer before he ever sets foot in Iowa City, its this guy. Where exactly is this guy going to play? Garza is a true 5. Nunge is going to get minutes with Cook, Pemsl, Kriener, Baer and Moss already there? Plus, at that size he will get broken in half.

Let's see...First team in basketball rich Indiana. Finalist for Mr Basketball in Indiana.Scored 30+ points in state championship game. Yeah, you're probably right. This guy has no future playing Iowa basketball!

Wow. Your serious I take IT? We'll never know what Jones would have been able to do at Iowa, due to his injuries, but there's also no reason to think he would have done much more than shoot some long range three's and provide some minutes at the three. His previous injury left me wondering if he could play effectively on defense. especially man to man.
Jack Nunge was a first team all stater in talent rich Indiana, and is still in the running for Mr. Basketball there. He's a 6'11" player with tremendous length, who can score at each level from the block out to NBA range three's. He's a solid rebounder, and shot blocker, both area's that Iowa can make use of the minute he walks into Carver. Time will tell of course, but he might be the best, (certainly most well rounded) player that Fran has recruited in his tenure at Iowa. Fran has said on numerous occasions that he and Garza will play next year, so I'd be suprized if he's not in the rotation.

It's always speculation how a kid will transfer his game from high school to college, but I think there is more reason to be optimistic about Nunge than cynical.

As many have pointed out, Nunge played his high school ball in the state of Indiana. If he was tearing it up in 2-A Iowa, I could maybe understand the point.

Also, let's be real, I think Fran has been right on out-of-state kids way more than he's whiffed. I think Nunge will be a great fit in Fran's system and has a chance to be pretty good. Trust Fran.

Dale Jones is a hard luck case. I was very happy for him that he made that opening 3 in the final home game against psu.
Given his multiple injury issues it is probably time to hang up the sneakers.

As noted above this isn't a 1-A or 2-A Iowa player putting up ridiculous numbers, which should be viewed with a fair amount of skepticism. Nunge played in indiana 4A, correct? Fran could field a pretty solid team if he got one of the best players in indiana 4A every year. I don't think you could say the same for Iowa.

So you just want one less guy in the rotation? If Jones stayed that's what you'd get.

One of the dumbest posts of 2017. I think Nunge has the most upside of the 3 recruits coming in, and I like all 3. Nunge seems like a Uthoff clone, who is maybe a little ahead of where Jarrod was when he went to Wisconsin.

Only on this board.
Hes a legend for stupidity on the ot board.

While its unfortunate that Dale has had the injuries he was wise to foresee little PT in IC next season.

You love to see a kid pursue his dream but maybe Dale should take his Iowa degree and I Club connections and get a job. The poor kid has really had a lot of injuries. Not only does the question of playing time elsewhere arise but so does playing in pain. Those aches and pains have to be really unpleasant for him.

It'd be nice to see Dale get an injury free season if he does transfer but it doesn't seem likely.

I don't know who, but if nobody's transferring now, there will definitely be one if not two guys transferring after this upcoming season.

Cut Nicholas Baer from this team, he never even had a star or at a minimum one star, so why is he even here. Can't find my sarcasm button.

Yeah, what the heck is going on? A walkon gets a scholarship, and a four star gets nothing. A kid ranked in the top 50 doesn't even have an offer going into his junior season! And I'm pretty sure McCaffery knows about him and I HEARD HE IS sleeping with the kids Mom!

Meanwhile, we've got nobody transferring. (Yet) Does no one care to make room??? Where's the Creaning!?!? A kid from Muscatine is blowing up the basketball world? What?!?! And he committed already?

We've got two All Big Ten Freshmen coming back as sophomores. The Big Ten's sixth man is going to be a junior. We're running out of guys to pick on, and are reduced to complaining about subs!

We haven't had a good name to call anyone since Oglesby. Sure, we can try WOODY!!! But that just gets posters in a bar fight.

Two four stars coming in next year. FOUR four stars, presuming we ever offer that Patrick kid. Bashers are down to crazy azz thoughts about a final four Indiana Mr. Basketball candidate.

Seems like no one gets in trouble anymore off the court. Nobody flunks anything. In fact, we recently had the #1 Student/Athlete award go to one of our guys. We're getting kids with offers from Ivy League schools.

And to top it all off we're answering the dire need for an athletic point guard by recruiting a 7'2" point guard from South Sudan!!!!

Something's screwed up. We never got to settle how many years to give McCaffery and now it looks like we may never decide until long after he's gone. We still have the same assistants that we've had, minus a few things like Director of Basketball Operations, Video Coordinator and Ice Cream Quality Tester.

Nebraska hasn't passed us. Illinois is starting over again. Crean's gone. Anunoby looks like an idiot for not having picked Iowa.

I tell you it's one of the worst times to be a Lemon Sucker in decades. Completely and unfairly, things are going great despite stupid Barta and dumb Fran and lousy players and everything else!

I have to feel terribly sorry for all the most determined bashers. It must feel like nothing they could do ever turned out right.

And the worst of it? It looks like things are only going to get better!

Damn.

Nunge can play the three which, with Jok and his 30+ mpg leaving, should be wide open. None of Cook, Wagner, Pemsl, Kriener, or Garza can play the three. Baer can, Dailey can, maybe Moss can. That's about it (Uhl can, but he's gone after this year).

Also, I don't see Garza and Kriener combining for 40 minutes at the 5 next year. They likely split minutes with Wagner/Pemsl/Cook in a smaller lineup. Pemsl/Cook likely don't combine for 40 minutes at the 4 either, so Nunge could see spot minutes there.

I would bet Baer is almost exclusively a 3 beginning next year, where he shares minutes with Dailey, Uhl and Nunge. Edit: And possibly Christian Williams depending on how well CM plays his first year

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing Nunge redshirt both to help space the classes (this would put him in Joe Wieskamp's class, where he is the only commit) and build the muscle required to compete in Big Ten play.

Yes, the MAC agrees with you

Until this year, Fran pretty much had 3 pretty bad recruiting classes in a row.

I agree 1000%, not a well thought out post by the OP. Jones has been on scholly for two years and a non contributor. Nunge has the size and range to be an inside out player.

Are you counting 2013, when Iowa brought in Jok (as it's only recruit), as a bad recruiting class? Or are you instead including the 2016 class (as a bad class) - which of course includes Cook, Bohannon, Pemsl, etc.?

Jok is one player. Fran is the one who got into these unbalanced classes. 13.14.15 were not good recruiting years. Baer was a walk on lol.

Also, Fran seems incapable of proper rotations and plays guys on whims.

If you have one spot open and recruit a future 1st Team All Big-Ten player...how is that a bad recruiting year?! Your logic seems way off.

He can play one on five? Wow. Lebron has nothing on Jok
How did you survive the Lickliter era? If I had your lofty expectations and reasoning skills, I think I would have considered ending it all. And by that I mean ending my existence.

Yes because it takes a Fuggin genius to use rotations in a game.

this guy is obviously a troll just here to stir the pot. He is not an Iowa fan & every time he gets a reply you can bet he is laughing his ass off. No one can teach stupid.

No one knows how good Dale Jones could have been. His year or two playing JUCO ball doesnt help. I do hope he graduates and if he wants to gets another opportunity to play another year elsewhere.

Please inform us how you'd of used rotations last year to be more effective?

As for class disparity you can thank the previous regime for messed up class sizes. If Lick could keep anyone from transferring classes would have been different but left Fran in spot where he brought in 5 guys year prior to Jok and honored scholarships such as Devon Archie. He was left with depleted roster where he had to have classes of 4, 3 and 5 his first 3 years here. Plus ignore the fact he was trying to even it out classes some with the RS of Kyle Meyer who'd have been in Jok's class and while we are at it lets blame Fran for Brady Ellingson breaking his foot so he had to use a red shirt.
