Wow, what's happened to Oregon?

When was the last time they played in a bowl game?

They got housed in the Pond. Shit happens. Their starting QB was out. No he don't play defense.

I think Oregon is still pretty good.

No Kelly, no Mariotta, anyone who didn't see this decline from a less than traditional power had their head buried in the sand.

Which is partially why I'm not necessarily buying into the Chryst/Wisconsin and Riley/Nebraska hires quite yet. They'd like to think they can just reload and retool...but it isn't quite that simple.

I have nothing against Oregon, but it would be nice to see someone else celebrated for a while. Parity is more interesting that dominance.

p.s. I do have something against Oregon - some of those uniforms are simply hideous.

Oregon's D has been a liability for quite a while. Every once in a while they get glaringly exposed

My thinking is the recruiting might not be up to Kelly standards, it just took a few years to expose it.

QB issues can bite ANY team in the behind ... just look at Iowa last year!

In addition to QB issues - credit also goes to Utah. They came prepared ... and are playing REALLY well! Utah is clearly a good team.
Same can be said for coaching issues. Just look at Iowa the last 5 years.

I'd agree that the turnover on the staff has hurt Iowa through the past 5 years. Losing Norm was big. Having Greg Davis get acclimated to our program took time - as did it take a time for Ferentz and Co to learn the lingo of Greg's system and better integrate our running game with the O.

However, during the interim, the Hawks still developed plenty of excellent players. The proof is in the pudding that the overall quality of coaching was decent. However, putting it all together to lead more consistently to victories CLEARLY WASN'T there ... the proof is in the pudding there too.

Other examples of coaching being an issue include:

- Michigan State's D coping with the loss of Narduzzi
- Wisconsin's O right after they lost Chryst and Rudolph to Pitt
- Michigan's O in the transition from Carr to Rodriguez.
- the examples go on and an ....

However, I think that most Iowa fans would agree that Greg Davis's "horizontal O" needed a trigger-man who could get the ball to the edges more quickly. We saw in 2013 how the O could move the ball between the 20s when guys could get decent yards after the catch. Rudock could hit some of the quick-hitters. However, the O still suffered in the red-zone when the field got compressed.

They only had one copy of their playbook and Brian Ferentz made off with it during their visit and replaced with Iowa's playbook, hence Iowa's big turn around and Oregon's fall from grace. LOL!!!

Oregon committed violations so the NCAA cracks down on some directional mid major. BAU

Reminds me of the old quote back in the 80s. Not sure who said it. Texas is paying players again, time to put Rice on probation and send a message.

I still think that is why Rutgers was brought in. They are serving as Ohio State's fall guy. Can I get an amen Chris Carter?

Say what you want about Oregon, but they ran into a buzzsaw in Utah who out Oregoned Oregon. Fake punt, Half back pass, absolutely stunning misdirection punt return and scoring in almost every way possible, Utah looked sharp and will make a run at the PAC12 championship.
I've lived here through their 12-0 & 13-0 season and their dismantling of Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and this team may be better than either of those teams.
Time will tell and their schedule is full of land mines but its gonna be exciting win or lose. That's what is really cool about Utah football.
