WR Jacob Gill commits to Iowa

At this point any experience at the D1 level is worth looking at. Maybe he wins a starting job this year, maybe not, but he has the experience to at least push for it and that makes everyone better. He has 2 years left, so you know he is going all out to either win a starting job this year or next and max effort is not to be over looked.

Well we better have a much better o line and also hope that the other team doesn't have 11 guys within 5 yards of the ball like we did when Brian was in charge. Man I'd like to see us spread the field and run the ball vs playing everything so tight and expect us to block 8-9 guys w/6-7.

I am a proud Iowa grad and think it is a great school. But I can't understand why someone would trade a scholarship to Northwestern for any other school in the B1G.

QB Sullivan and WR Gill each are graduate students heading to the U of I. Both used scholarships at Northwestern to obtain undergraduate degrees

Now, an opportunity to play in Kinnick Stadium seven to 14 games prior to leaving college 🤔

Pricey .................................

Northwestern University announced a 4% increase in undergraduate tuition for the 2023-2024 school year and an increase of more than 4.1% in undergraduate financial aid to $289 million.

The total cost for undergraduates living on campus will be $86,330. Undergraduate tuition will be $64,887; standard room and board will be $20,333; and fees will be $1,110. Tuition and fees fund a wide variety of student instruction and support, as well as world-class faculty and research, enhancing the student experience for all. Room and board rates support residential and dining services and staff.

Meh. My kid went there. If they accept you they will give you enough Scholarship money to make it at least comparable to your local state University. Athletes that get free tuition meals and housing are getting a great deal!

Don't you think a new OC is a pretty good start? All he needs to do is get our offense to the point where we don't suck!
One good year won't change things.

Two might not do it, unless they shoot to the top half in the country.

Bad reputations are tough to change.

If you were an NU grad, you would not be so surprised. I have been, frankly, embarrassed by my alma mater (grad school only) on several occasions. The latest is the negotiation the NU administration recently concluded with Hamas terrorists.

I'm not so sure about that. With all the bad publicity we got for being so bad, if they can turn it around and be productive we should get some publicity for that, too.

We need to aspire to be an explosive offense. People seem happy if we are a top 100 offense but why can’t we be better than that? Well, Kirk likes ball control, low risk play calling, limited turnovers and field position. It’s frustrating that he didn’t have the foresight to evolve. We just don’t seem to recruit high level skill players on any consistent basis, and it’s no surprise. We are stuck in the 90’s. Receivers need to block sure, but they want to catch the dang ball!

When was the last time we had an elite running back?

It will be hard to make up for the damage in one season, hoping for the best.

Maybe not. When you hear qb's telling reporters they are excited about playing for Lester and his system, word gets around. These kids all follow each other and talk to each other. Even if they don't and a kid gets and offer and starts researching and coming up with stories like that, things can turn around fast. Oh and I am not one saying just make it so we don't suck. I think top 1/3 should be the standard (maybe not this year, but within a couple years)

It doesn't have to be explosive, but it certainly needs to be more effective. I would be ok with a ball control offense that scores TDs instead of FGs...or punting. The ability to hit a WR down field makes it tougher to defend the running game. Wanna stack the box against us? Ok go ahead!

Yes, I mostly agree. I am deliberately using the word explosive to try and change the super cautious paradigm but more effective is certainly the goal. We have slowly painted ourselves into a corner where we can’t recruit high level skill guys so it makes it extremely hard to lean on scheme to deliver results. I hope I’m wrong but feel this will require a new CEO, vision, strategy and attitude to deliver an offensive makeover.

I hope that is true and would love to be more optimistic. Hoping for the best.

What?

Context, please.

Meh, we have some pretty fast guys. We just need to teach them and put them in the right positions. Our QB room has never been as good as it is now. I am not saying it is like OSU's, but yeah, we have 3 guys who have all played in D1 games. So the future is bright there. Wr's like to go where there are good qb's. and Qb's like to go where they are coached up. I think our offense will look a lot different come fall. One article I read said we had defensive players who all but came out and said our offense was already harder to defend and it is only going to get better and smoother between now and fall.

Seems overly optimistic. I love Kaleb Brown and Gill was a solid addition but Anderson and Buie are unproven, and not much depth.

O line is middling at best, and more likely below average if slightly improving.

QB was a dumpster fire a few months ago. I do like the addition of Sullivan even more than Cade, who just SEEMS to be a shell of what he was at UM. Marco is electric but looks to be a long putt to get him completing 60% of passes, or even in that ballpark.

Running back is deep but not elite.

It HAS to be better. But I fear we still don’t have the horses to get over the hump.
