2016 NCAA Bracket - Interactive

updates include:
Team Details Page - Each School's participants, as well as number of qualifiers from each school
Pool Teams - For pools that I run (I'll open a new thread for it)
Took out the TF w/o Backs garbage

Please download it, toy around with it and let me know if i missed anything or something isnt right. There were a few brackets i had to re-build the scoring due to where the pigtails were drawn in.

Much appreciated, Thanks for getting it on-line so quickly which i'm sure was no easy task!

If Stoll makes it to the Quarters and loses to Walz, he'll likely have (8)Wessel of Lehigh in R12 or (16)Butler of Stanford.

If he loses Round 2, he'll likely have to face Ross Larson OU, then Blaize Cabell UNI, then Kroells in the R12.

I like his chances a lot more to get on the podium if he can gut out that R2 win over Dejournette/Black.

If Meyer loses to Ramos, he has a tough road to hoe to AA.. He'll have to go through loser of Jackson/Brunson in R16, and Cody Walters in the R12.

If he beats Ramos, he'll have Jackson/Brunson in the quarters, and if he loses that, he'll likely have Harvey/Ottinger in the R12.

Now is the time we need you to perform Meyer!

Coop needs to win his first round match against Berger, the loser of that match likely faces Brascetta in the R12 and he'll have to get through #14 Matthews, and #11 Smith prior to the R12.. If his wins that and loses to Miller, he'll have Brian Murphy in R16, then Cody Pack in the R12. Which I think is a much more winnable match/easier path.

If Brooks loses in the Quarters, he'll face the winner of Zavatsky/Zillmer vs Abounader/Renda (the losers of those matches will be on the backside and will face eachother to see who faces Brooks in R12).

But I like Brooks' chances in the Quarters. Just a possible scenario.

Coop lost 6-5 to Pack and 2-1 OT to Murphy. Those are definitely winnable matches.

That's tough sledding for Coop. Any one know the details of Millers injury to know if he'll be full strength?

I actually think Patrick Rhoades has a good chance in his first round. Wilson is very tough on top and average at best on his feet. He's also had a very easy schedule. Let it fly and maybe he can score us a few points. Whether it's one win or AA they all help.

Love this! For those that have had their asses kicked by technology, could someone explain to me a couple of things. How do we put in a fall? Do we just put in an F for the winner or is there something else? Also, I'm assuming we just put in the points we think each wrestler will record in the match. Is that correct?

There is a little table to the left of the list of scorers that tells you the criteria for bonus points...actually, i'm looking at it, and the table is wrong, but the logic if right in the code. (table says <7, should say <8
For a Fall, enter a point difference of 30 (30-0 is what i do, but you could do 20-50....as long as the diff is 30)

So, real quick, i went through and put everyone according to seed again, only winning by decision. For the unseeded, i got them to R12 and losing, just for consistency sake and i think most of PSU/IOWA will get to that round (except Stoll...i gave him a W b/c i'm nice)

If everyone wrestled to seed PSU would win 101-83.5.

Top 15 Point Scorers
1 (1) Zain Retherford (PSU) Penn State 20 149
2 (1) Bo Nickal (PSU) Penn State 20 174
3 (1) Morgan McIntosh (PSU) Penn State 20 197
4 (2) Cory Clark (Iowa) Iowa 16 133
5 (2) Brandon Sorensen (Iowa) Iowa 16 149
6 (2) Sammy Brooks (IOWA) Iowa 16 184
7 (3) Nico Megaludis (PSU) Penn State 13.5 125
8 (3) Jason Nolf (PSU) Penn State 13.5 157
9 (4) Thomas Gilman (IOWA) Iowa 12.5 125
10 (4) Nathan Burak (IOWA) Iowa 12.5 197
11 (5) Jordan Conaway (PSU) Penn State 10 133
12 (11) Sam Stoll (Iowa) Iowa 5.5 285
13 (13) Edwin Cooper Jr (Iowa) Iowa 2 157
14 (13) Alex Meyer (IOWA) Iowa 2 174
15 (16) Matt McCutcheon (PSU) Penn State 2 184

There aren't many places Iowa can gain ground H2H (149, 125) but guys like Stoll who can get some falls early and turn in 5th Seeded points from an 11 seed, or Meyer figuring it out...there are some points to steal.

Needless to say, it should be a fun ride.

This is absolutely astonishing. I'm good with computers but Excel is not a program I work wtih much. I can't imagine how much work went into creating it in the first place, and then updating every year with every single name and bracket. What a great resource — thanks for sharing!

Outstanding!

I put together my own spreadsheet, so I KNOW how much work it takes. And your's blows mine away! Excellent job!

I use excel everyday and believe I am as well versed as anyone can be, this here, is a work of art. Kudos to LutherAce!!

I think Gilman, too, has a great chance to gain points.

Thanks. This is much simpler than hand writing it in. If only a spreadsheet that would automatically drop the loser to the right part of the conso bracket, I would be extremely happy

so, once you put in some scores..if you scroll down, you'll see the consolation bracket...

Great job LutherAce, I was considering doing something similar and had just started pruning back a NCAA basketball bracket with the final goal being something like you did. I'd gotten as far as being confused as to whether pigtail winners got an advancement point. I see that you've concluded that they don't, but I'm curious where you found support for that because I couldn't find anything.

I predict Gilman is a NC right now. Best thing Thst could've happened to him is what happened at Big Tens. I think he's gonna be a pissed off little pit bull at Nationals. I'm hoping Clark matches his Big Tens performance, and that Sorenson and Brooks can grind their way to the finals. Brooks should have a ton of confidence after Big Tens. Then there's Burak. I can see 5 finalists for the Hawks IF these 5 guys bring it and wrestle like they're capable of. Then find a way for guys like Stoll, Cooper, and Meyer to AA and I gotta think we'd be right in the hunt.
Biggest key to me for the Hawks is urgency urgency urgency. And it has to be for 7 minutes not the first 3 or the last 2. Can't get an early takedown and try to make it hold up, can't sit and wait for the 3rd period to decide to go.

they actually do get an advancement point...if you mimic a result in any of the pigtail matches, you'll see on the scorers side that they get a point in the PL column...if you did a MD, they'd get 2, fall would get 3. You will also see the pigtail loser move down and wrestle a pigtail consolation. if you mimic that result, you'll see they get .5 pt advancement.

I only have the logic applied in the PL and PLL for the two wrestlers involved...didn't make sense to apply to everyone.

Best thing for Rhoads is to never choose down again.

Apologies, there must have been a lag when I tried it, I see now. Google Sheets' fault (in which it otherwise works great, in case you were wondering).

My first year seeing this, as a guy who likes spreadsheets this is incredible. Thanks for creating.

Your link was posted on "On the Mats", Scout's PSU forum. All the posts were positive. Everyone getting psyched for the Nationals. Thanks!

i don't know what that means, but thanks.

And for the guy that wants updated throughout the tournament...tell him to go to Track :) I'm going to be at the NCAA basketball tournament in DM Thursday so i won't be able to update it throughout the day.

I should have been clearer. Scout.com's PSU site is "Fight on State" The wrestling forum there is called "On the Mats"; it is a very friendly and respectful forum.
