Your favorite war movies (Top 5)

I'll go favorites, since best is extremely subjective

Battleground
Stalag 17
Path's of Glory
No Man's Land
Black Hawk Down

Note- Saving Private Ryan is a VERY close #6.

2nd Note - If we included mini series, Band of Brothers would be an easy #1

In no particular order:

SPR
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
Inglourious Basterds
Apocalypse Now

Bridge of Spies was outstanding but IMO Cold War movies are a separate category. My other favorites from that genre would be The Good Shepherd, Thirteen Days, and The Death of Stalin.
Great list….my go to is Kelly’s Hero’s

Not sure if Hunt for the Red October is a war movie

1.) All Quiet on the Western Front
2.) Letters from Iwo Jima
3.) Downfall {albeit there are only about three minutes of battle scenes}
4.) Enemy Below
5.) Paths of Glory
I forgot about Letters from Iwo Jima. That one is outstanding.
Flags of our Fathers was not very good, IMO.

Our lists are almost identical. I love IB, but even tho it happens in the era, I don't really count it as a war movie.

1. Mars Attacks
2. Independence Day
3. Edge of Tomorrow
4. War of the Worlds
5. Independence Day 2
>>>
100. Avengers: End Game

Saving Private Ryan
Hacksaw Ridge
Tora Tora Tora
Kelly's Heroes
Full Metal Jacket
Kelly's Heroes...a comedy but those Tigers look realistic as F. Not common for war films from that era. They were T-34's with wood additions to make them look like Tigers...did a great job.

I am seeing a lot of The Patriot selected. It got panned by historians for its accuracy. However, Gibson teamed up with Randall Wallace (who wrote Braveheart) and made We Were Soldiers which got great reviews for its accuracy. I think that might be on my top 5 list although it can difficult to difficult to watch as it can be graphic at times.

Saving Private Ryan
Midway( I like the original better)
The Longest Day
A Bridge Too Far
Generation War ( if we’re counting miniseries)

And yes, this is heavily slanted toward ww2.

Netflix needs to do a multipart remake of Audie Murphy “To Hell and Back”. From some interviews taken with fellow soldiers they said the movie didn’t do him justice.

Das Boot
1917
The Big Red One
Master and Commander

I enjoy Troy and 300 for ancient history war.
