Zach Edey

As good as Edey is, was he going to be a high pick in the NBA draft. Twenty years ago, he would have been a lottery pick. Today, is he even a first round pick?
He may very well not even be a 2nd round pick. The one thing going for him is that he’s tall. That isn’t enough in today’s NBA. Garza at least brought outside shooting to the table which is why he was a 2nd rounder. But even Luka was 9 spots away from being undrafted.

Might have to squint to see "sarcasm" at the bottom of the quoted post. But no, he wasn't going to be a high pick, if picked at all, so he'll make a lot more money from NIL coming back than risking it going pro now.
He was going to get picked. That wasn't a question. He wanted guarantees

Edey has to shoot from 3 this year, agreed.

It seems that most BIG early entry candidates have decided to return to college.
Neb- Japanese player
ILL- Hawkins and Shannon
Mich- Dickinson(KU)
NW- Bouie & other guard
RU- omouryi
PU- Edey
MSU- everybody

That is just guys I can remember.
Only teams with significant early departures are Iowa and Mich.
I do think this reflects the talent level in the league and explains why the BIG struggles so much in the tourney.
BIG should be tougher this year with all these guys back.
MSU and PU might challenge for Final Four.
Hawks could be in real trouble.

Experience is a huge factor in a teams success, no doubt about it.

So is cohesion, and that's where Iowa is going to have to hang it's hat going into next year...especially after spending the summer in Europe together.

Talent-wise Iowa is almost never near the top, that's something we've had to learn to overcome on a regular basis.

I read somewhere that many Big Ten teams are taking trips overseas this summer because many of them had to cancel such trips in prior years. I know Purdue has one scheduled too.

IA returns these
6'4 3* Perkins 3rd leading scorer with 12.3 ppg
6'7 3* Sanfort 4th leading scorer with 10.3 ppg
6'9 top100 4*Patrick 5th leading scorer with 9.8 ppg
6'2 3* Bowen 8th leading scorer with 3.1 ppg

the top 3 scorers only need 2 fill in for Murry 20.2 ppg and Filip 14.1 ppg.

only major scorer that needs to be replaced is Murray.

this is a good thing when looking at the upcoming season

Hopefully the B10 is tougher this year, and this results in some deeper tournament runs. I don't think the Hawks are in trouble so much as this is an opportunity to rise up and compete.

I really like what we have coming back, the more I think about it. Perkins and Dix give us our best defensive guard combo since Clemmons and Gessel. And they are both better scorers than either of those guys. If Bowen improves then that’s a luxury. Sandfort is due to breakthrough as a top scorer and Krikke gives a legit post presence. Braun or one of the freshmen should prove to be reliable subs.

did you say the same thing about these FR
Marble
Basabe
White ended up a FR AA.
Gesell top 100 4*
Woodbury top 50 4*
Cook top 50 4* by ESPN
JBO
Wieskamp top 50 4*
Garza top 100 4* by ESPN
Nunge
just to mention a few FR that started under Fran. I have full confidence that 1-4 will provide plenty of minutes and scoring.
this season
Sanfort top 100 4*
Harding grade 81 4* by ESPN
Freeman grade 80 4* by ESPN
Dembele 4* by Rivals
and yet some of you posters act like they will be failures right from the start.
oh by the way Uthoff was a top 100 4*by ESPN while he was rated #147 by Rivals.

One has to question with all this highly rated talent that Fran has brought in and karnack keeps showing us, how have we not won a regular season BIG championships or even a National Championship by now?

it wasn't until recently that Fran started to get this talent in
2012 class was rated 25th by ESPN with TOP 100 4* Gesell top 50 4* Woodbury, then he had Uthoff who transferred From Wisconsin.

after that the next 4* player Fran got was top 50 4* Cook by ESPN

then next he got top 100 4* Garza by ESPN
then it was 4* top 100 by ESPN.

now in the 2023 class he has brought these in top 100 4* Sanfort
grade 81 4* Harding by ESPN
Grade 80 4* Freeman by ESPN
4* Dembele by Rivals
that makes 4 4* in the 2023 class
Transfers
4* Krikke
3* Braume
he brought in more 4* players in one class than he has in his entire tenure at IA,
even in the 2024 class he has 4* top 100 Koch committed. giving him 6 4*'s in a 2 year recruiting cycle.

this is the type of recruiting that leads to Sweet 16's and or deeper runs which is supposedly what you want isn't it?

The real issue is I agree with you. Fran has been able to accumulate some very good talent and continues to bring in interesting players. I wanted each and everyone of those guys when they were being recruited. He needs to win more, win titles and getting run out 1st week of the dance isn't helping any, IMHO.

We won a Big Tournament Title just 2 years ago. Seems like you are stretching a bit.

History is replete with coaches who didn’t hit their groove until later in their careers. It has taken a long time, no doubt, but I believe Fran is on the cusp of a very rewarding run. The recruiting is finally consistently there.

We just saw this first-hand; the issue is how is he going to be able to move his feet and play defense at the next level? The answer is the same.
Actually, I believe his issue is movement in general. By the time he turns around and starts down court, the play at the end he is going to will be over. Overall slow, almost no lateral movement, gets most of his rebounds by reaching over people and won't be able to play a one man zone in the lane with the quality of big shooters in the NBA.
He actually makes Luka Garza look like a sprinter.

Ya Edey is not going to play in the NBA, probably made way more sense to get a 7 figure deal from Purdue boosters and attempt to win a championship instead.
