...has "assistant coached" Briar Cliff University (Sioux City) to a 30-3 record and a likely 1-seed in the NAIA national tournament. Also, BC beat Northern State this season, who beat Augustana who beat Iowa who beat Michigan State (twice) who beat Kansas. Just sayin'...

It is great to see Iowa grads making an impact after graduating. Congrats to Zach and good luck to Briar Cliff.

Wouldn't mind seeing him as an assistant @ Iowa, but I suppose the whole twitter thing doesn't allow it.

I believe Zach had no much emotion for a Fran coached team. This team could sure use that kind emotion and watch me kick your a** attitude

I would have liked to see McCabe go down the court on the sideline when Crean was standing out there. KAPOWEE. Oops sorry, didn't expect to see a coach out on the floor. Hope your head feels better tomorrow.

Chargers a sweet-shooting team that wouldn't be airballing anything with the game on the line. Hawks could learn a few things about effort & consistency from them.

Pretty impressive but I still miss the Panamanian pipeline. Those were some great Briar Cliff teams.

They were down by 13 in the second half last night but clawed back and won 103-97. Then again, you would expect a team that starts 3 juniors and 2 seniors to keep their composure. Not a luxury every team has.

Going 36 for 40 from the line sure doesn't hurt.

No doubt. Even though this BC team eclipsed the team record for wins in a season, this current level of ball (NAIA Division 2) is barely a shadow of those Ray Nacke coached teams in the late 70's through early 90's. That was consistently at a high NCAA D-2 or even small D-1 caliber. Lute Olson declined an invitation to play the 80-81 BC team that included Rolando Frazier and Reggie Grenald. Understandable, as Iowa, coming off a Final Four appearance, had little to gain from such a matchup, and if the Chargers would have knocked them off. ...
The teams did actually play, sort of. The following summer (1981), a group of former, current, and future BC players--essentially the Panamanian national team--that included Frazier, Grenald, Mario Galvez, Eddie Warren, Tito Malcolm, and Mario Butler played a group of former Hawk players that included Steve Waite, Steve Krafcisin, Vince Brookins, and Kevin Boyle in an exhibition at the old Sioux City auditorium. The Panamanian team won and, if I remember correctly, did so comfortably.

A bit of irony there, certainly. The Hawks start 4 seniors and a junior but have not displayed any composure recently. ...

it's nice to see the Chargers having some success again. I haven't seen them play but I'm sure it's not the same caliber as the BCC teams when they were NAIA division one . Perhaps one of the best college games I've ever seen was BCC vs northwestern Mario Gálvez's senior year. Bill Francis and Mario trading long range baskets the entire game. I think both ended up with like 40 points. Leon Trimmingham was awfully fun to watch too.

Not about basketball, but interesting group of names for a Spanish speaking nation. I understand that Panama has these athletes (and non-athletes)with English last names is because many Jamaicans and other workers from the West Indies were brought in to help build the canal. They stayed and their descendants speak mostly Spanish and mostly, but not all , have Spanish first names.

You can find some of the Panama National Team vs. Dream Team games on YouTube. Crazy to think that the Dream Team basically played Briar Cliff's Hall of Fame team. USA beat them pretty bad, but still...

Few of my friends were at that game. Ive watched some of it on YouTube. I think Panama/Briar Cliff hung with them briefly.
