When did you realize your kid was/wasn't game for extra competitive sports?

We have a 12 y/o who's decent at baseball and basketball relative to peers. (Has played on top teams for for the club/travel organizations around us) However, it's becoming evident that he basically has zero intrinsic motivation. He'll go to the practices and such but won't put in a minute of time in his own. We've tried to nudge him, but that just bakcfires. I'm nearly to the point of just having play for fun in rec leagues and saving the money on the more competitive stuff. I also know 12-14 is basically when kids show where their motivations are. What's y'all's experience?
My son was the same way. Played 4-5 sports all the way through high school. He was good, but not great because he didn't put in the effort outside of practice. He was good enough to start or play in all of the sports he went out for, but he could have been so much better. I got tired of harping on him, so I just was supportive of him. My opinion was that year round practices would instill a good work ethic and being around a team would help him become a good and supportive team player in the future. He learned discipline, how to deal with loss and difficult people and coaches that he didn't like and to never give up. Maybe think about what sports could do to help him become a better person in the future instead of being a star athlete.

Speeding tickets

True, but on that area of road the speed limit had recently changed from 55 to 35, and no pic called me out for going 50 at which point I hit the brakes. My question wasn't about entrapment but rather was there a time when 30 over meant and auto suspension that was changed to 25.
Ya just a pet peeve of mine. I've been in this field since 96 and I always remember it being 25 over, but I could be wrong. I know it is now.

Iowa WBB Class of 2026 Recruiting Thread

Hawks make the cut; interesting to see no UCLA on the list.
She cut her list to 10 a month ago. It’s making the rounds ago because she shared a highlight video that was posted with that graphic.
This post isn't to step on @hawkod or @Matt1nb7 contributions about McKenna Woliczko's Top 10 list yesterday.

Think this was one of the originals posted that I have noted. Sometimes it's out of sight, out of mind. It's good to be reminded that we're not out of her mind. Let's hope it stays like that all the way to signing day.

Next Year's Team

Glad you're celebrating 2 straight Hawkeye wins and your financial windfall by taking unprovoked, feeble shots at me at midnight. You are a petty little "man."
Imagine what kind of man I guess you to be.

The shot is not unprovoked. Your username and most of your posts are offensive to me.

You can post what you wish, I suppose. But if you want to be taken seriously, you have to lose the username. Otherwise, every post is just a reflection of the username.

You're the one who chose it. I'm guessing you knew darn well that not everyone would care for it. And certainly, the same is true with many of your posts. It is what it is

Congrats to Iowa State

Nebraska shut down Colorado. And Iowa State beat Iowa on last second field goal. Either one of those two playing in the conference title shows the Big 12 is mid majors.

Idaho and Boise State played Oregon tougher than many big ten teams earlier season. A lot changes over the course of the year which is nice having the 12 team playoff.

I think Iowa in Oct beats ISU at home with Lester getting more comfortable (with Cade or Sullivan.) I also think Colorado improved as the year went on and Nebraska regressed. I think CO beats them now. Many of my fav Iowa teams were totally different team later in the season.

College football is wild. It’s why

Anyone see this pile of crap in The Athletic by Mitch Sherman?

[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[nd/AP, but this weasel of a reporter blames IOWA for NE’s captains refusing to shake hands at the coin toss. He claims that NE was justified in their bush league, grossly and embarrassingly unsportsmanlike display… because Iowa had celebrated after beating them repeatedly, and because Iowa wouldn’t allow them to huddle on the logo at midfield before the game (those pregame rituals typically happen in the end zone for the vast majority of teams anyway).

The article is a steaming pile of dung, and Mitch Sherman deserves a slap in the face from Iowan and colleague at The Athletic, Scott Dochterman, for being an idiot. Assuming Mitch is a Nebraska alum and/or Fusker fan. If he’s actually an objective observer, he’s even more of a fool for publishing that waste of cyberspace.
[funny thing is Nebby fought with USC at their game because USC thought the logo pep talk er prayer was disrespecting and Colorado had issues about it as well with Shadur calling Neb out for this so there has been precendent plus they do not do this at home--just away games....

Have fun when the chance happens. Cheers.
