The people who can't see value in that are the kind of people who think having the government pay over $200,000 to run broadband cables to a house in the sticks is a good use of taxpayer money.

Problem they have is none of them actually trust each other to not cheat a new fiat currency the way the US does.

Why would China sign onto a currency that South Africa or Russia can print, in the famous words of Ben Bernanke, 'willy-nilly'?

If they went together on a gold backed currency the dollar's reserve status would be toast, but they want to be able to print money for domestic political reasons (always easier than taxing) that I don't expect them to give up.

USD will remain the 'least dirty shirt' among the fiat currencies. A new fiat currency from the BRICS would just register somewhere on the list of debasement between the dollar and the Bolivar.
