In 2023, 97.5% of all net worth —totaling $139.4 trillion — was owned by the 50% of Americans with above-average net worth. The remaining 167 million Americans owned about 2.6% — or $3.6 trillion.
So maybe Bio got the top 1% part wrong, but read those numbers again. Do you think that's OK?
Other numbers that get bandied about and might not be 100% correct include that the richest 10 people in the US own more than the poorest 50%.
With disparities like these, quibbling about a % here or there totally misses the point.
