Fire Trucks Held Up for Smog Tests as LA Burns

Sacramento bureaucrats held up a fire department strike team of 60 firetrucks from Oregon. The truck teams were sent to help contain the Los Angeles fires and stopped for emissions testing since they didn’t have smog certificates.

Therefore, as LA burned, the fire trucks went through smog testing.

Santa Monica Observer posted:

“I just heard from my brother,” tweets Parker Caldwell, “a firefighter in Central Oregon, that the 60 firetrucks the state sent to support the LA fires are being held up in Sacramento for ’emissions testing.’ They likely won’t pass inspection and won’t be able to help… What a joke.”

“Update from our EF&R strike team leader – crews are going through inspection in Davis, California. They have been assigned to the #PalisadeFire, which is currently 6% contained. Safe travels to our team! #CaliforniaWildfires #wafirefighters”

Meanwhile, according to the Bend Bulletin, the strike teams were stopped in the Sacramento area before arriving in Southern California to complete mandatory vehicle safety checks. Oregon State Fire Marshal agency administrator Ian Yocum described the safety checks as a “critical” part of the mission.

Yocum said, “With moving this amount of equipment and firefighters, safety has to be our highest priority.”

They didn’t have smog certificates. However, LA was burning down.

Only eleven of them got going on Friday.

It seems dangerous to set emissions testing as a priority when the country is going through one of the worst disasters in its history.

The accumulation of fuel in the US is exacerbating forest fires. Labor, especially cheap labor, is needed to clear out fire prone areas. Why not put the illegals to work? Rake the forests for 4-6 years and you get to be a citizen.

Does anyone know if KF and Lester told Mark Gronowski he would be the starter next year or he would need to compete? I have not heard either way, but it definitely makes a difference with his injury and what the QB are competing for in spring practice.

I know MG said he would be competing for the spot, but a new player is not going to say he is the starter before meeting his new teammates.

What if

Watching Washington State play in Holiday Bowl. I’ve been a part time fan for 25 years. WHAT IF when KF retires we got a coach that wanted to play this wide open, fast pace offense? Would the Iowa fans embrace it (assuming we had a passable defense and didn’t lose games 45-42)? I know it’s not traditional B1G offense, but it would be a refreshing experiment, even if it failed.

Steve Bannon: ‘I Will Do Anything’ to Keep Elon Musk out of the White House

ROME — Former Breitbart News executive chairman Steve Bannon has declared war on Elon Musk, vowing to have the tech billionaire kicked out of the White House by the time Donald Trump is inaugurated.

“I will have Elon Musk run out of here by Inauguration Day,” Bannon told the Italian daily Corriere della Sera this week. “He will not have a blue pass to the White House, he will not have full access to the White House, he will be like any other person.”

“He is a truly evil guy, a very bad guy. I made it my personal thing to take this guy down,” Bannon added. “Before, because he put money in, I was prepared to tolerate it; I’m not prepared to tolerate it anymore.”

At the heart of the recent clash between Elon Musk and Steve Bannon is the immigration question, and specifically the H-1B visas for skilled immigrants working in “specialty occupations,” which Musk has said he supports. But for Bannon, the issue is emblematic of a bigger problem in Musk’s thinking.

“This thing of the H-1B visas, it’s about the entire immigration system is gamed by the tech overlords, they use it to their advantage, the people are furious,” Bannon said, noting that “76 percent of engineers working in Silicon Valley are non-Americans.”

“No blacks or Hispanics have any of these jobs or any access to these jobs,” Bannon said.

“Peter Thiel, David Sachs, Elon Musk, are all white South Africans,” Bannon observed. “He should go back to South Africa. Why do we have South Africans, the most racist people on earth, white South Africans, we have them making any comments at all on what goes on in the United States?”

“We have been fighting this fight for ten years,” he declared. “We are going to expose the entire corruption of the American system, of how money controls everything and hopefully we’ll inspire you in Italy to wake up,” he told Corriere della Sera journalist Viviana Mazza.

Elon “just had a huge defeat here in America,” Bannon argued, on the question of H-1B visas and their importance to the economy of the United States.

“He went out of his way to mock our movement as racist and retards, and he lost,” Bannon said. “We blew him out of the water. He won’t fight. He’s got the maturity of a little boy.”

Musk has had “tremendous loss of credibility here in the United States, and quite frankly, the people around Trump are tired of it,” he said.

Bannon went on to accuse Musk of being self-serving, insisting that his “sole objective is to become a trillionaire.”

“He will do anything to make sure that any one of his companies is protected or has a better deal or he makes more money. His aggregation of wealth, and then — through wealth — power: that’s what he’s focused on,” Bannon said.

Bannon said that Musk’s economic support of President Trump has been a positive thing, adding that he should do the same for any of the different populist movements in Europe.

“What’s not positive,” he added, “is when all of a sudden he tries to put his half-baked ideas which are really about the implementation of techno-feudalism on a global scale. I don’t support that and we’ll fight it.”

WISKY GRADES

125 CRUZ UR vs #18 Cruz was aggressor in 1st 3 shots no finishes, was thinking maybe go to a cradle on 4th shot in the 2nd which he finally finished. He stayed mostly aggressive and got another TD in 3rd to seal deal, NICE WIN!!!! 90

AYALA #4 vs #24 He was getting after it but got a little sloppy and gave up 1st TD. He got out and did good work on his first TD and ride out. 2nd TD was slick then rode him and wore him down in 2nd getting the riding time advantage. Then he opened a can of WHOOP ASS!!!! 95

4K Streaming Subscriptions

Anyone pay the extra for them? I upgraded my entire home theater setup over the holiday break. I have Roku Ultra 4K (limited to 60hz), LG OLED 4K, Sony 4K Blu-ray, and upgraded all my HDMI cabling to 2.1 (shockingly had all v1.3). Noticeable difference with just the OLED, but when I switched my Netflix subscription to 4K, I really don't notice a difference; given I realize not all content is 4K.

SIAP: "Let's cruise around and come back"

Pretty effed up story out of STL. Both cops were fired, which is exactly what should happen. Curious as to if they'll move on somewhere else and get rehired onto the force. Didn't see this posted anywhere but if it has been, I'll drink some Pepsi.

Body cam shows officers walk away from man found shot, still breathing: ‘Let’s cruise around and come back’

ST. LOUIS (KMOV/Gray News) – Shocking body camera footage shows two St. Louis Metropolitan Police (SLMPD) officers walking away from a still-breathing victim of a gunshot wound to the head because they said they did not want to take the call. Law enforcement experts said the inaction of the first two officers is in stark contrast to the proper actions of the other officers who arrived on the scene.

The footage from Sept. 10, 2023, shows the response by former SLMPD officers Austin Fraser and Ty Warren to a 911 call placed by Urayoan Rodriguez-Rivera saying he planned to take his own life.
Warren’s body camera recorded the response. Fraser’s did not, though the reason is unclear.
At 6:26 p.m. on the date Rodriguez-Rivera took his life, the officers discovered him beneath a tree on the east side of the popular Forest Park in St. Louis, still breathing, with a gunshot wound to the head.
Warren can be heard telling Fraser that Rodriguez-Rivera is still alive and that they need to transport him to the hospital.

“We better take this motherf***er then,” Warren tells his partner.
Fraser replied that he didn’t want to take the call because his shift ended in 30 minutes.
“We aren’t taking this sh*t,” Fraser responds. “I get off in 30 minutes. Let’s cruise around and come back.”

The officers leave Rodriguez-Rivera with a gunshot wound and still breathing beneath the tree. Neither officer calls for medical help for the victim or tries to render any first aid. Neither officer reports to dispatch that the victim was discovered. They also walk away laughing.
Nothing on Warren’s body camera video shows either of the officers tried to find or secure a firearm used by Rodriguez-Rivera. His death was determined to be a suicide, but the gun was never found.
Mitch McCoy, a spokesperson for SLMPD, said in a statement that the firearm is listed as stolen and the investigation into it is ongoing. The department is monitoring hits in the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN).
“To date, there have been none,” McCoy said.

As the two officers walk away from the dying man, Fraser says to Warren, “They’re [other officers] gonna find this mother****er and we’re gonna be like, ‘Oh sh*t you found him.’” The two officers can then be heard laughing on body camera audio.
The two officers drive through several city streets and return to the victim about 10 minutes later. They arrive just before another officer does. In that officer’s body camera footage, Fraser and Warren can be seen “looking” for the victim they had walked away from minutes earlier, pretending as if it was the first time they arrived at the scene.
The third officer then spots Rodriguez-Rivera and immediately notifies dispatch. He then makes a priority request that EMS come to the scene for a person still breathing with a gunshot wound to the head.
Other officers also arrive shortly after and tape off the scene. One officer checks Rodriguez-Rivera for a pulse and finds one, which he describes as “super weak.” As that officer searches the area for a firearm, another officer tries to render first aid.

At 6:38 p.m., an officer’s body camera shows Warren and Fraser walking to their police cruiser and leaving the scene for a second time. At least two other officers mention it.
“You know what’s f***ed up? Warren and Fraser just left,” one of the officers says in body camera audio.
“Why?” asks the other.
“I don’t know,” he replies.

Another officer said he was going to “out the f*** out of Fraser” for leaving the active scene at 6:38.
“You can’t just leave,” the officer said to a colleague while in a police cruiser.
EMS arrived at the scene at 6:53 p.m. and transported Rodriguez-Rivera to the hospital. That was about 27 minutes after Warren and Fraser arrived the first time and 40 minutes after the victim made the initial call to 911.
Rodriguez-Rivera later died at the hospital. The St. Louis Medical Examiner’s Office determined the death a suicide by gunshot to the head. It was later discovered he left a note and paid his share of the rest of the year’s rent before taking his own life.

Warren’s peace officer license has been revoked through the disciplinary process. A disciplinary hearing in Fraser’s case was set for last week.
Both officers were fired from the department after police administrators found the footage during a routine review of body camera recordings.
“The two individuals are no longer employed by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department,” agency spokesperson McCoy said in a statement. “While we are unable to comment on specific personnel matters, SLMPD holds its officers to the highest of standards. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken if an officer is found to have violated policies.”
Rodriguez-Rivera’s mother, who lives in Puerto Rico, expressed disbelief at what transpired. In a text message in Spanish, she described the officers’ actions as a “lack of humanity,” saying, “I hope the full weight of the law falls on these so-called police officers.”
Warren and Fraser have not returned KMOV’s multiple attempts to contact them for comment.

My Starting Lineup

First this is what I am seeing with the team up to this point. The starting lineup for most of the year up until the last two games has had one natural ball handler and four poor ball handlers on the court. Sure Kylie and Sid are better handling the ball than they were last year, but in previous years they were a two or three dribble player quickly looking to hand the ball off to other players. This lineup also has one okay passer with four poor natural passers.
This setup really creates an offense that has no flow or rhythm. When you add Jan's strategy to play two bigger post players together which clogs the lane with two defenders you get no lanes to attack the rim and get easy baskets and no movement. We could overpower smaller teams earlier in the year with Ogrady and Stuelke and they did well but now we are playing teams that have enough size and mobility that that Addy and Hannah have to out skill them and I hate to say it but Hannah has no offensive skill. She is a great athlete but if she isn't wide open for a layup she brings nothing offensively. Addy does have a little skill. She has a left handed hook shot and she can hit from a few feet out but she obviously is very slow footed.
This starting lineup also lacks natural shooting ability. Sid and Kylie have shown they can hit from behind the arc but that is if they get wide open looks and yet they are still very streaky because their form is inconsistent. Lucy actually is a pretty good shooter and she has proven that. So that leaves us with a lineup that is clogged up offense with one ball handler, one okay passer, one shooter. That has been the biggest problem since we have started to play teams equal in talent with ours.
Jan's offensive strategy to walk the ball up the court has also aided in our difficulties. When you slow the pace down and walk the ball up you allow the defense to rest themselves and you allow them to be in position so you have to get around them to score every possession. The percentages are against you.
This is why having an offensive system that pushes the ball is an advantage in most games. It wears the other team down who isn't used to it and it also creates easier baskets. This is why Bluder and Fran deserve credit for this strategy.
We have the depth to do this. Hannah, Sid, Kylie, and Addie know how to do this. In fact they excelled at it.
I would go back to up tempo with a lineup of only Guyton and Stremlow at the 1 (Olsen at the 1 in specific designed plays if needed), McCabe at the 2, Olson and Feurbach at the 3, Sid and Teegan at the 4, and at the 5 let Heiden always start and platoon Eva, Addy, and Hannah constantly.

Does anyone use these cheap mobile networks? Visible, Mint, etc.?

Like most of my bills, I'm lazy and have just kept paying my mobile bill for like 20 years. Once a decade or so I get all motivated to be better about my monthly subscriptions because I think I'm getting screwed by the man and I can't have that. My cell phone bill is my single biggest bill every month so it has me thinking. Do these cheap carriers actually work? Anyone have any experience with them? Should I join Ryan Reynolds' revolution?
