Purdue's Final Four a microcosm of Iowa

with Garza. Dominant inside player gets his while the guards get absolutely dominated by the opponent. Purdue guards were 6-22 for 17 points while Uconn guards went 21-44 for 55 points. Smith and Loyer were 4-18 for 14 points in their previous game vs NC State. Smith was particularly brutal in the 2 games going 5-21 for 15 points.

Odd old-time Colorado Buffs basketball question

I don't want to have to join a Colorado ( or ISU) board to ask this. I had an odd memory come to me while bicycling this afternoon. Only thing that could be odder is if the memory didn't even happen.

I grew up in Des Moines in the 60s and 70s. For basketball on Saturday afternoons, channel 13 showed the MVC game of the week, 8 had the Big 10, and of course 5 had the Big 8. We didn't get a color TV until March 1969.*

So, with regard to Colorado, we would be starting with the 69-70 season ( the Cliff Meely era). What I remember, though, is that every single game broadcast EXCEPT for the ones played in Boulder was in color.** Colorado home games were black and white. Altitude? I also remember the Colorado floor having some weird gloss, so maybe didn't broadcast well in color. Anyone else remember this or able to explain? I suppose I'll manage if I don't get an answer.

*It was in fact the very night Drake played UCLA in the Final Four. My recollection has always been that this was a coincidence, but that sure sounds naive when read.
**The basement TV was still B&W until the 80s or so and where I spent much of my time.

Why Iowa lost

No, it wasn't depth. No, it wasn't because of tired legs coming out of a tough regional. It was because Iowa did not address their weakness from last year when Iowa got demolished on the boards then too. This time around against SC, SC had about 50 rebounds to Iowa's 25 just like last year. Last year, SC wasn't much of a threat from the 3 point line and they fixed that weakness. Iowa did nothing to fix their weakness. Iowa only had a sluggard's chance to win that game. It was going to take very good shooting and that did not happen. Stuelke is a power forward and not a center. She is a very good power forward. Will Iowa get a real center for next season? Remains to be seen. Maybe Bluder gave it her best to get a real center last off season and just couldn't get the job done.

Rath Packing Company - Waterloo, IA

Does anyone in OT have any memories of Rath? I was in Waterloo this week and drove by what's left of what used to be the world's largest packing house. There isn't much left of it and what's left is obviously in ruins, but it was interesting to think about what it once was. The link has some interesting photos of the old beef building before it was demolished. The design of Rath's plant apparently played a part in the company's demise, as newer, single level meat packing plants proved to be far more efficient.
