You have to win a championship to be considered the goat?

This is the DUMBEST argument in all of team sports. It boggles my mind that so many people think you need to win a championship to be the greatest player ever at your team sport.

So if Caitlin Clark would have committed to South Carolina instead of Iowa, she's all of a sudden the goat but since she chose to play with 3 star recruits instead of a team of 5 stars, she somehow isn't the goat? That makes her MORE of the goat in my opinion.

Individual sports, by all means, measure people by championships. It means nothing in team sports when discussing the best to ever play.

FSU fans and all lurkers...

Please bring all the good juju to this game Sunday. Staley hates us and we are the only team they lost to in the last infinity games. On top of this being the natty, they have tons of motivation to beat us for taking them out last year.

We don't win titles in sports that have over 50 programs (sorry wrestling). I think you get how much this program means to our state.

I don't have crazy high hopes of beating SC but we only have to do it one time! Jump on our bandwagon for one weekend :)

Swiss immigration limit ballot initiative

In a move intended to restrict mass migration, Switzerland will hold a referendum to restrict their population to 10 million until 2050.

The vote will take place after the populist Swiss People’s Party (UDC) harvested 114,600 signatures in just nine months, meeting a government requirement for 100,000 signatures within 18 months for the referendum to go ahead.

If approved, the referendum will ensure Switzerland maintains “sustainable demographic development” by restricting the permanent resident population of the wealthy European country to 10 million for the next 25 years.

“Under the proposal, the Swiss government would have to take urgent measures as soon as the permanent resident population exceeds 9.5 million by, for example, suspending the ability for migrants to obtain residence permits, Swiss citizenship, or any other right to stay in the country,” reports Remix News.

The vote would also likely mean Switzerland would be forced to end its bilateral agreement with the European Union on free movement and pull out of the U.N. Global Compact for Migration.

UDC leader Marco Chiesa said the referendum would guarantee “the safety, services, and well-being of all of us” while serving “to preserve our values: independence, direct democracy, sovereignty, and freedom.”

“Since 2023, for the first time, more than 9 million people have been living in our country,” said UDC National Councilor and Group Chairman Thomas Aeschi.

“Last year, an additional 98,851 people immigrated to our country. Added to this are more than 30,000 asylum seekers.”

As in other European countries, mass migration to Switzerland has resulted in “housing shortages and rising rents, traffic jams on the roads, crowded trains and buses, falling standards of schools, increasing violence and crime, electricity shortages, income stagnating per capita, ever-higher health insurance premiums, indebted social services, and increased pressure on the beauty of the landscape and the preservation of nature,” according to the party.

The UDC previously warned that the country was being subsumed by mass migration, with new arrivals from Africa having welfare rates of 34 per cent.

Around two-thirds of prison inmates in Switzerland are foreign nationals, with Algerians representing the highest proportion.

Men's Basketball NIL Shortfall

I have been pondering this issue for awhile now, trying to figure out why Iowa's mens basketball program can't build a large enough pot to bring in one or two top flight players each year.

If you give over $1,000 you can designate where the money goes. Does not seem like many large donors are too enamoured with the program. Why?

I personally feel Fran is a bit more aloof and not as engaging as Kirk. I may be wrong, just my impression. He also has not embraced the portal like he should. It only takes one or two top players to turn a program around. Unlike football where you need 22 vs. 5. I appreciate Fran's opposition to pay-for-play but look how many portal starters are in the final four.

I gave an initial swarm donation but after reading that pro athletes do not believe in giving NIL to their previous schools, why should I. In addition, reading where players are getting sums of money greater than I made as an executive before I retired, I decided, no more. Decided to put more in our granddaughters 529 college fund.

I think the future will belong to big money folks that have more money than sense. Donating, just to say, my team won! Unfortunate but true.

It's Championship Day.

All right folks. How are you feeling today? Is this revenge day for the SC juggernaut? Is it Caitlin's ultimate coronation? Is Bluder going to outcoach Staley a second straight year?

Does anyone for Iowa have the Game Of Her Life in her today? Kinda feels like Iowa needs that, like how LSU needed Jasmine Carson to have hers last year.

Fellas, I don’t know if you realize this but 🧨

We made it to the final 4, two seasons in a row… Not only did we make it to the final four we came in with aspirations of making it to the final four and actually did it😳

We all remember highly thought of football teams and basketball teams over the last 40 years they came into the season, highly rated and struggled…

WTF, man ….. I feel like a kid I think it’s just now hitting me. I just got done talking to my uncle who’s only six years older than me. He’s a huge Iowa State fan but a great guy, smart guy, wealthy guy, not full of shit.

And he’s my uncle right, so he’s highly respectful of me and I, him….

But we were talking about the game and he’s actually pretty pumped up and has watched her most of the year and it ****ing hit me two, years in a row to the national championship game…

Woww 🤩

Andy Pavlovec Day

Andy Pavlovec. This young man was bicycling in the early morning hours and was struck by a vehicle traveling over 60 mph in a 35 mph stretch. The person that hit him just happened to be a 16 y/o on her social media account on her phone. She originally faced homicide charges but they were dropped and the story disappeared. It was never followed up by any media source I've seen.

That was 3 years ago today. Now that this girl is no longer a minor should she be named and the story followed up on or should she be able to go on and live life like it never happened? I know exactly what would've happened if I would've the 16 y/o behind the wheel in that circumstance...

This day is in Andy's memory
