She can and should do that from a safe distance.Author should investigate all of the factors involved in how things get to what she describes.
Sure, and the city could still be improperly handling the problem at hand. Not mutually exclusive.
Who did you vote for in the elections?MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Minneapolis is my home. My happiest memories are here. It’s where I learned to ride a bike, had my first date, received my high school diploma.
But today, I’m too afraid to even walk in my neighborhood by myself.
The ACE Hardware down the street? The one that I used to bike to in the summer? Robbed twice in the past five days.
The Walgreens next to my elementary school? Molotov cocktail thrown into it.
The Lake Harriet Bandshell, where we spent countless Mother’s Days? Homeless encampment popped up next door.
These are the things you don’t read about in the news.
Ten minutes from my house, at 38th and Chicago, there is still an autonomous zone. Police are not allowed to enter. Residents have died because medical authorities couldn’t get through, and carjackers (of which there are MANY) will speed into the zone to escape officer pursuit.

We heard that every day from 2016 to 2020. Worked out well for republicans.More and more cops and good people will be leaving the large metros areas. The only ones that wont be are the ones that cant afford to and that's too bad. I fear, based on the rhetoric from our 'leaders' that none of this will change anytime soon.
If y'all wanna see a republicans elected in 2022 and 2024 just keep up the anti-law anti-order platform and there is gonna be an ass kicking coming at the ballot box like you haven't seen before. Mark my words. No one is going to give a rats ass about climate change if their communities aren't safe.
No way in hell Id live in the Twin Cities right now. Hell I don't even want to visit.
Oh well, the population has been shifting forever. Maybe this is exactly what the left-behind rural areas need.More and more cops and good people will be leaving the large metros areas. Yeah, I suspect this will be a tad different. I could be wrong....guess we will wait and see won't we.We heard that every day from 2016 to 2020. Worked out well for republicans.

Agreed, right now it seems to be isolated to a few areas. Hopefully it stays in these areas. I used to love Minneapolis. No longer. I'll take my big city trips to Kansas City from now on.I think you're overvaluing the extent of the problem. You do have some metros that scaled back policing and (arguably) saw crime increase because of it -- NYC, MPLS -- and other cities where response to unrest has been... silly. (Seattle, Portland) But it's not clear that the problem is large enough or widespread enough to really affect people's opinion on cities much yet. Plus, insomuch as civil unrest in the streets is a fad, I'm not sure it lasts too long.
But, sure, if we saw sustained unrest and failure adequately address it, understandably I'd expect people to become fed up.
The people that primarily vote don’t live within the inner city, they hang out in the suburbs. They DGAF about the poors dealing with the skyrocketing crime. They get to vote to defund the police and pat each other on the back about their wokeness. If there was really such a break down of law and order I would think the city would elect a mayor who promised to restore law and order.

Strategy? Blame libs!!!! Nothing else needed.Describe how your iron fisted, boot on the back of the neck strategy would make things super safe.

Besides a peen and balls? You’re goodI read the piece. So the author is just a racist, whiny MAGAt.
What am I missing?
I have voted straight democrat my whole life, except I voted for Ross Perot, and I voted 3rd party the past two presidential elections.Who did you vote for in the elections?
Once again, absolutely zero substance behind anything that comes out of your “brain”You’re one of the chief knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers on this site. That you disapprove of what I say more than confirms I’m on the right path.

I hope more productive people move. then, but only then, will the left realize their patty-cake strategy in inner cities isn’t working... this is insanity.
Nice comment, how do you expect her to fix her community? The mayor is against order, so is the governor, the police can't enter certain areas, and I'm sure folks like you would call her a racist. Sounds like unless and until anti-American politicians get some cojones, this will not end.
It wouldn't have gotten as bad as it has if the authorities, especially police and the leaders of the police union, didn't suck so much at their jobs.Whiny because dipshits like you think it’s cool to burn down cities? In the mean time you clowns are still crying about THE CAPITOL INSURRECTION aka 25 rednecks getting into the capitol taking pictures, walking around being dumb. You have so little ground to stand on you can’t even formulate half arguments.
Maybe you should move there and do that. Sounds like a win/win. Someone who isn't interested in solving the problems moves away and someone who has a great idea moves there. Problems they’re having are hardly unique to rest of the country. In simple terms, the last forty or fifty years have cemented some very alarming, and not hard to understand, trends. And just as is the case historically — in our own fücking country’s history, mind you — these trends yield all sorts of bad outcomes.Maybe you should move there and do that. Sounds like a win/win. St. Peter is a fantastic town. Sits in the Minnesota River valley just up the road from Mankato. That campus pic doesn't really tell you that entire campus is sitting on top of a hill above the town. That main road that leads to the administration building is a straight shot down to the main street and runs right by a beautiful city park. So when you drive by on 169 you can look right up the hill to Gustavus Adolphus.I had never heard of Gustavus Adolphus College, it's a very pretty campus:

This shit lives similarly all over this country. Nobody needs to move to MPLS to understand what’s going on.
I sure hope the uselessness of mindless other-side scapegoating runs its course.

Got it, you are pro caning.well let’s see. I’ve traveled extensively in this world and I’ve been to places where law and order are not optional or negotiable. Singapore is a great example of having zero tolerance for idiots who break the law, and aside from its oppressive heat/humidity it is a BEAUTIFUL city state.
I think they’re over the top strict about some things, but man it is nice to be perfectly safe in any neighborhood any time of the day... you should get out more and experience new places.
Back in the day a lot of City High grads were going to GAC. I visited there a few times, it is nice.I had never heard of Gustavus Adolphus College, it's a very pretty campus:
Good for her. Instead of trying to help fix her community she wields the mighty pen and then wants to leave.
Was my statement incorrect? If she's white she's not allowed to help fix it.
I thought you, THE_DEVIL, liked people who wield the might pen. Or is it only when opinion articles are in line with your opinion?
Why are you shaming someone for making a decision with their life?
Hmmmm....didn't you move because of your MAGAt neighbors? So brave.
Partially. Sure wasn’t scared of them though.Hmmmm....didn't you move because of your MAGAt neighbors?
So the people who are the cause of the problem should be left out?
Okay. What should her next steps be if she stays? What would you recommend?Good for her. Instead of trying to help fix her community she wields the mighty pen and then wants to leave.
