Researchers have been left with more questions than answers after they found coronavirus antibodies in more than a third of wild whitetail deer surveyed across four states since the pandemic began.

The study was done in 34 counties in Illinois, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

Results showed antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in 33% of the 481 samples collected from January 2020 through March 2021.

According to the survey, those 481 samples break down like this:

• Illinois: 7% of 101 samples had antibodies.
• Michigan: 67% of 113 samples.
• New York: 19% of 68 samples.
• Pennsylvania: 31% of 199 samples.

"I think the most significant finding of this study is that it really represents first documentation of widespread exposure to SARS-CoV-2 virus in any native wildlife species," said Thomas DeLiberto, assistant director of APHIS Wildlife Services at the National Wildlife Research Center. "We saw these animals had been infected at some point."

1) I have a 9 year old and she can’t get vaccinated.

Well, many Americans are over the pandemic at this point so.....

Yep - it’s a combination of we all thought we were over it and we all truly are in a state of denial about how horrific Covid-19 has been for the world and the US. From an American perspective it will pass HIV and the Civil War for most deaths…and will do it in 20 months. From a world perspective I have little doubt they will estimate the deaths some day between 25-75 million which will put it on level with the human toll of WWII except over 2 years not 7.
I think if someone was to tell you in 2018 this would happen to the world in a few years, we would absolutely freak. But for most of us who have now survived, well, we don’t want to think about it. But it has made a mark on just about everyone’s psyche, whether they know it or not. So many people are making life changing decisions on what they want to do with the rest of their lives is most obvious one. But point is, we are all living through one of the biggest events in human history. So, yeah, it deserves the attention.

I have also been paying attention to what looks like a much lower death rate. I think this coming week will show us whether that's actually true.

As a J&J recipient, I've been debating whether to go get a Moderna jab - assuming they will let me. If the danger really is a lot lower, I may wait for properly tailored and approved boosters. If the death rate surges, I may get the M shot.

I think it's interesting that several European nations have already approved boosters for the elderly, in addition to those with compromised immune systems.
