First cut for me will always be selecting someone who I think has the basic (or more) core decency/integrity/intelligence/honesty/objectivity/etc that I want in a leader. In other words, the kind of person I want my kids to be/marry. I wouldn't have voted for Hitler just because his tax views aligned with mine. Policy stances are second unless 2 candidates are clearly close in these other traits. And let's be honest, Presidents alone have less influence on legislative policy that affects our lives than people are implying. There are some exceptions, but they generally get far too much credit or blame than they deserve.

I agree with this, and frankly, neither Trump nor Biden come anywhere close to having "the basic (or more) core decency/integrity/intelligence/honesty/objectivity/etc that I want in a leader". I will vote for whichever party replaces them on the ballot first. If it's Trump vs Biden again, well, I've voted Libertarian in the last two elections because neither major party had an even remotely acceptable person to be President on the ballot, so I have no qualms doing it again.

The question was: what has improved since Biden became president? I answered the question with several things. You all did not like the answer; you all tried to change the criteria. I can also add: the pandemic became under control and fewer Americans were dying from Covid. 300,000 more Americans would be alive today if Trump had adequately lead the country dealing with Covid.

If Trump had won the election, many more USA citizens would have died from Covid. Trump failed miserably in dealing with Covid. When Biden took office Covid medical care began with his leadership. Th USA began getting testing, began getting masks, and began getting vaccines out to the people. all of that was late getting started because of Trump.
