The military joint chiefs of staff put out a letter explicitly stating that they wouldn't go along with the attempt to overthrow the election and that they'd defend the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic.

I think (it's not my opinion, it's an objective fact) that Trump tried to overturn the election and absolutely would have done so if he could have gotten away with it even if he knew for 100% fact that he lost the election.

The thing that makes you a traitor and a nutjob is that your defense of Trump isn't that he did not in fact try to overthrow the election. It's that he wasn't going to be able to do it successfully despite trying. That's an insane reason to continue to defend someone. Why would you be ok with defending someone who tried to overthrow democracy and our constitution, just because the systems of checks and balances held and prevented him from doing so. The mere fact that he attempted it should justify complete and total intolerance and condemnation.

Also part of the systems of checks and balances relied upon Mike Pence who was Trump's selected VP. That's obviously a conflict of interest, yet Pence abided by the constitution regardlessly. Many of the supreme Court are appointed by Trump or other Republicans (the majority in fact). Many generals were appointed by Trump. The AG was appointed by Trump.

If you can't foresee a scenario where the system of checks and balances doesn't hold and a president manipulates the system to install himself as dictator you are woefully ignorant and uninformed.

A multitude of historians and legal scholars are screaming from the rooftops of the threat to democracy that Trump and his supporters are. And you are part of that culpable group of citizens.

Answer all of these questions with a simple yes or no. No gish galloping. No straw manning, no twisting yourself into a pretzel. Just direct yes or no responses.

1) did Trump explicitly ask Mike Pence to reject the electoral votes (an act that violates the constitution)

2) was the purpose of that request to prevent the certification of votes declaring Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 presidential election?

3) is it accurate to state that rejecting the electoral votes would be an attempt at overturning the election results?

4) is overturning election results that are the will of the people and not found to be widespread fraudulent or fraudulent anywhere near the magnitude needed to change the outcome of the election, a direct assault on democracy and a violation of the constitution.

I suspect you're going to really struggle to answer these with a simple yes or no, because doing so would contradict your entire position.
