I heard at one point last week, the decommitted class ranked higher than the committed class.... But, looks like a strong run now that the coaching staff has shown large change and new folks are pulling in flips and settling concerns. Exciting.

I admit to being skeptical about impacts to recruiting with less than a week for many to react to the coaching changes. Hopefully portal pickups are money well spent this year.

All-ACC Cup with 3/4 from in-state. Good times.
We got in late from supper last night and saw the tail end of the Heels finishing a 3-0 win over Duke to advance to the. Finals vs. Wake. Kudos to the interim coach getting UNC back into the title matchup.
It will be the first Natty for the Deacons, or #22 for Carolina.
The power base in college soccer for women is obviously the ACC. I think long term that USC and UCLA may begin to lose ground after joining the BIG. Stanford possibly as well, but they made the College Cup again after joining the ACC.

I wonder what, if anything, this means for Surtain.

Might be lip service at this point, but here is a quote from Norvell on the hire:

“I’m happy to have Evan Cooper joining our Nole Family,” Norvell said. “It’s great to have another Dade County native back working in his home state. Our safeties will benefit from his experience and expertise, and he will be a tremendous collaborator with Tony White, Patrick Surtain and the rest of our defensive staff to reestablish the dominant defense Florida State is known for. I’m incredibly excited for the future here at Florida State.”

Also have heard Surtain has been a bright spot last two years and he and Fuller did not get along. I think he did not like Fullers conservative bend don’t break approach. I am on Surtain’s side for that one. Fuller’s 3rd down defense was maddening except in 2023.

In 2023 they may have had the best roster since 2013, along with Senior leadership and accountability by players.

Fuller was a piss poor DC. His coaching of the safeties was worse. I’m glad we got rid of him. 3rd and long was an automatic first down against his ultra vanilla defense.

SMU is running a version of the Gus offense. The jet sweep, a bread and butter play of the offense, has been shut down by Clemson all night.

Well, they've now put up 21 with a qtr left. FSU was held to 13....

Baby steps forward. Need to get Ws next season even if not in a title game.

edit - now tied it up in regulation with 31......

They ain't sexy n flashy, but very lunch box style.

Our defensive coaches are looking to be a massive upgrade. The new safeties coach couldn't be more different, in terms of recruiting, than anyone on this past year's staff. He was looking at film and making offers after he and Rhule left the Carolina Panthers but before they were hired at Nebraska.

Dang it, looks like Luke is entering the Portal. With new coaches and the way last season went, AND so many other QBs being considered in the Portal, it's not a surprise. Oh, and with DJU saying he is returning.... But I thought with an off season, he would be a really good option for next season.

That's too bad but I'm sure he'll do well wherever he lands.

Did not expect this one. Best to him.

I was bummed to see FSU lose, but we will be back.

BTW, who has the most Natties in those 12 years? That would be the Noles.
Back on top with their 22nd NC, in case you missed it. Great game and Coach Nahas is no longer "interim". Actually, #23 including the AIAW title they won in '81. Go Heels.

Of those who've left so far, the two biggest surprises to me are Luke and Destyn Hill; Hill really shocked me - expected him to stick considering we worked with him & stuck it out with him for so long waiting for him to finally make it to campus. The only other one I've been that disappointed about was Graham; he's not been great but seemed to improve significantly over the course of the season & was one of the few who seemed to be putting forth a great deal of effort as we played out the end of the crapseason.
