Both teams made clutch shots late. What a finish!
Ron was a beast before modern training systems existed. The training table was there, but not at today’s level. Weight training was pretty much just lifting.I went down a nostalgia rabbit hole last night watching interviews of old wrestlers I liked. Steve Austin and Rick Flair had a discussion of the toughest guys in the business.
Austin mentioned the strongest guys he’d worked with. He said that only two people could bench 500 lbs any day of the week. Ron Simmons who was in his 30’s or 40’s at that point could easily put up 500 lbs no matter how much Crown Royal he’d had.
People love to talk about how much better today’s athletes are, but for reference, 495 lbs was Aaron Donald’s every day max.
He didn’t win the Rimington. He was Rimington. The only guy I ever saw stone him was a Nebraska center, who, IIRC, won the Remington. The husker dwarfed Ron in size, and they also had a stronger line overall.
Somehow, I think I knew that was the case. Thanks for reminding me.He didn’t win the Rimington. He was Rimington.
If you’re going to get beaten by someone, it might as well be the starting center on Sports Illustrated’s All-Century Team.
And he had guard help from consensus All-American, Andy Schleusener. I still can’t believe we went into Lincoln and beat that team.Somehow, I think I knew that was the case. Thanks for reminding me.
Yeah, Bobby inherited some real talent that Darrell Mudra had coming in, but he was also able to fill the cupboard with solid players who “bought in”.And he had guard help from consensus All-American, Andy Schleusener. I still can’t believe we went into Lincoln and beat that team.
Bowden was the greatest coach in college football history.
Was that the game when the Nebbie fans gave the Noles a standing ovation? And he had guard help from consensus All-American, Andy Schleusener. I still can’t believe we went into Lincoln and beat that team.

I was at FSU at the same time as Simmons. I remember the media guide saying he could bench 550# and that was the equivalent of a 275# lineman in each hand.I went down a nostalgia rabbit hole last night watching interviews of old wrestlers I liked. I love Ham, but the rumor in Tallahassee is that he’s done after this season. Problem is, I don’t know that we fork over the money to get someone good. That was a truly epic collapse by the men’s team.
Four games ago it looked like he was going to get an extension. Now I think an announcement will be made soon that we will not be seeking new contract so he can get a final goodbye game.I love Ham, but the rumor in Tallahassee is that he’s done after this season. Problem is, I don’t know that we fork over the money to get someone good.
Yep. From up 15 to giving up a 3 with four seconds left to lose. Beyond frustrating. That was a truly epic collapse by the men’s team.
2020 for him was like 2023 for Norvell. Totally demoralizing.I love Ham, but the rumor in Tallahassee is that he’s done after this season. Problem is, I don’t know that we fork over the money to get someone good.
shiatThat was a truly epic collapse by the men’s team.
That sound. I can’t believe he’s in college.
Shame he missed his chance with his best team.
Yep. The 2020 season was so fun and we got robbed. Even had a couple of beverages before games with @DFSNOLE that season.Shame he missed his chance with his best team.
I was sitting down for lunch at Canopy Road cafe under a big screen where FSU and Duke were warming up for their ACC tourney opener.Shame he missed his chance with his best team.

Five guys on that team went on to play in the NBA, including Devin Vassell and Patrick Williams.
