197

From a Waverly perspective, he felt he got better workouts at Warburg and Warburg is more serious about the sport.

He didn’t leave because he couldn’t compete, but was disappointed in the level of competition and competitiveness in Madison.

For the record, I’ve been the one talking about his WI time the most in this thread. I NEVER insinuated he couldn’t hack it there. That was never a point I was trying to make. I believe what you posted to be 100% true.

Never having seen him wrestle...what are his strengths...overpowered guys, quick for a 197, good rider...??????

Done deal.
I wasn't gonna say it been waiting for someone lol. Thanks Gobblin
Same here. I like this pickup. Let him work with Buchanan.
Anything else in the works for next season? Looks like 25,33,41,49,65,74,84,97, & Heavy is covered if Kueter is back and healthy. We rolling with Marty and Fleshman til then? We looking to do anything at 157, or we going with VV and Estrada there? Is Cali to 57 all talk or does it have legs? What weight is Block going next year? Thanks in advance.

If Ben isn't back then yes they will roll with what they've at HWT.

157 the room has guys who are capable and the portal hasn't had much better besides maybe Kellar.

Caliendo time will tell my guess is wait and see what he weighs come August and if HE wants to go down then go for it.

Block not sure it will depend and see how big he gets while rehabbing his knee.

Not too sure what i think about this.
there's nothing to not like about it.

it's an awesome addition. dude is a beast.

at minimum he 1) is an upgrade over anyone on the roster 2) doesn't mess with the eligibility of Ludington (the #1 197lb prospect) 3) a proven asset in international styles (he made a damn team for crying out loud)

197 cleared out immensely. He's 100% a podium threat. and by March, in that room, perhaps a top 3 guy.

I think the exact same about him. Those who don't like the move must not have watched him much .He was the guy I would've targeted at 197 over everyone else including Elam. Rocky and his injuries are worrisome. And if your Iowa and you spent big $ on Parco and Teemer and they both got hurt you gotta think about that stuff.

I'm super jazzed about this! Provided he stays and isn't just grabbing bags over the summer two years in a row, lol. There is huge upside here.

Not super excited about waiting to see what happens with Caliendo’s weight in August. Especially since it impacts other weight classes, specifically PK having to cut as well. But good news is there are reasonable options at 157 within the current roster.

This right here.

Seems it’s not just a Caliendo thing either. Kennedy is an issue too. If he doesn’t wanna drop it leaves 165 being a problem. Either way I’d think the decision should be made soon to start shrinking 1 or two guys and maybe landing a portal guy at 165…

Look dammit. I've had enough. I've thought about, and probably will later, have a separate thread on this - but:

GIVE THIS MAN WARNER HIS FLOWERS NOW!

Everything he touches turns to gold. And even though I wish he were still competing - Ferrari, Buchanan, Keuter - all are disciples in the house of Warner. Those are basically his guys, and he rotated with them all year. And look where that got them.

Endene is next on the list, and he's going to be good. Freak athlete and he's going to be in a room where mat wrestling is REALLY focused on and paid attention to.

The guy has ALWAYS deserved praise. I've done everything I can to sing his praises since the very beginning. He may be the most maligned 4x AA(not counting the Covid honorary award) and Finalist to ever wrestle for Iowa. 197 was pretty damn top heavy most of his 4 seasons and even when he lost, he was in every match, including Ferrari 3-2, Amine 5-3 and Dean 3-1.

There NEVER should have been any question about how much help the weights around him would get if he stayed in the room...

Far be it from me to ever say anything bad about Wartburg, but this is a pretty thin summary for a three time champ.

Yeah I don't think Iowa can really be throwing stones when it comes to the online roster and bios.

Jacob Warner has done a lot of good and great things for the program. He will continue to as his life changes. He is the finest kind.

Brandon Sorenson too does not get talked about much. He's a great training partner and coach.

HWC gets unceasingly maligned here. They give more bang for the buck than at PSU. If you have an issue with HWC not having Dakes, Snyder's et al join, then pony up 7 figure amounts for these guys.

But seriously, It's just different priorities for the HWC. The focus is clearly on keeping alumni in the room who can attend the college practices.

I get the flexibility, but it definitely puts the college program as the priority. We all just wish there were Hawks chasing yellow medals. Whether they are alumni are not.

In my eyes Iowa has decided to use the club as an extension of the coaching staff. Keeping guys that graduate around as training partners regardless if they're gonna compete freestyle or not. And those who do want to compete like Lee and Desanto also have opportunities

You have heard of Spencer Lee?

I wasn't being antagonistic at all. HWC is doing a great job. Just giving the other side of the coin in terms of the club. I'd say the general fan would like to see MORE guys wrestling at the Senior level and really chasing World/Olympic golds.

WISH woods was still in the room, Eierman on the circuit more, Warner chasing it, etc. Not poo-pooing anything here.

True story but honestly, I was just being facetious as I don't like Wartburg and I do like saying bad things about it. Long time board members might know the reason. Hint, I may get a like or two from @LutherAce and @WWDMHawkeye and others.

Warner gave a good interview on why he is not competing, but loves to help the program. I am not sure about Eierman, but no one is telling him not to compete. Real left for certain reasons that he alone should articulate publicly, but has chosen not to. He was offered a spot at HWC.

SB has chosen to stay and compete.

You never answered whether you donate or not. Many Many do. Even if you have to forgo your morning latte, with half caf, nutmeg and vanilla sprinkles for a week........it all adds up. You can then proudly say you are helping and stand next to myself and many others.
