In all seriousness, AJ was the one 197lber I was hoping Buchanan could avoid until the finals. He is so hard to take down and is an elite rider. He will be tough to beat if it goes to rideouts.

I'm not yet sold on the fact that this is the same AJ from his glory years. I think he can get back there, but I don't think he's there yet. I need to see him against top tier talent to believe that he's in the same discussion as the other top 3 197 pounders.

I am pretty sure the guy he beat in the finals of his qualifier was ranked 6th. Although the score was kind of close, it was never really a match!!! He has great Defense which has been talked about. He is good on TOP and hard to ride when on bottom!!! His conditioning looks good from what I have seen also making it a TUFF match for anyone to win!!!

ONLY thing I see is his offense on his feet is not elite in my opinion. Maybe you wrestle him deep into the match even, and wait for a bad shot to counter??? but you will need to score somehow?

He's working on it. He recently gave an interview about improving his vanity and improving as a human. There is one caveat, he was wearing an AJ Ferrari shirt while discussing that he tone done his vanity.

Trent Hidlay (who has been really good doing the ESPN + MatCast, and has shown lots of love to Iowa) explained that AJ's 'double bird' is for the CSU-B Roadrunners.

Talk is cheap, but below is another vid from AJ yesterday.

I shared this earlier, but when CSU-B was in CF for national duals, AJ worked out at our school, and by all accounts was great with all the kids who came by the room to watch him. I don't think he fits in Iowa's plans with Lud coming next year and AJ having two left, but if he really turned over a new leaf, I wouldn't mind him being around the program. There is a lot of maturing that takes place from ages 19-23..
