I'd like to put on my amateur psychiatrist hat and try to determine why otherwise well rounded teachers, some of them fairly attractive and most of them married, would risk everything they have worked for to have an affair with one of their students. I wonder if they were possibly not popular in high school and weren't considered attractive at the time and were never asked on a date by the cool or popular guys. So now they are back in that setting and need to prove to themselves that they can get or seduce the jock or good looking popular kid? I always wonder what is happening in their heads.

Being abused as a kid by an older person, especially someone with a power embalance is very detrimental.

I still have the controversial opinion that if possible we should send straight out of college teachers to teach middle school for 5 or 10 years before they can teach high school
Please note that anything I'm about to say doesn't excuse what these teachers do and they should be punished. However I think when you are looking at a 22 year out of college, they arn't that much older than the 17 year olds and 18 year olds they might be teaching. And honestly if you are talking about an 18 year old high school senior if they waited 2 to 4 years and then started a relationship it wouldn't even be thought of as abnormal. No one bats an eye at a 26 year old dating a 22 year old.
So my view is you let these teachers teach middle school for 5 to 10 years to the point that the age difference between them and the high school students become more pronounced.
That isn't going to stop all sex abuse by teachers, some teachers have it in their heads that they wanna bang a teenager but I feel like it might reduce the chances by simply reducing the likelyhood that a teacher because of some weakness within them might become interested in one of their students who might only be 4 to 8 years younger than them.
I think if you push it out to where teachers teaching in the high school are now over 30 the age difference might be a bigger block. If for no other reason than the now much bigger maturity differences.

Well again I agree that you are not going to prevent all sexual abuse. I'm more or less just pointing out that maybe some of these relationships that develop between older teens and young teachers could have been prevented.
