Can the 2018 Hawkeyes follow 2015's lead?

2015, of course, was the year the 12-0 Hawkeyes were within one yard of the College Football Playoff.

3 seniors from that 12-2 team share their secrets in the linked story below.

But the 16-13, last-minute loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten title game, then a 45-16 Rose Bowl drubbing against Stanford brings regret.

If you compare the two years between fourth and fifth-year players, the 15 season had a lot more experience than the 18 class will have. The 11 and 12 classes produced 12 starters on the 2015 team. The 14 and 15 players will have 6 likely starters and thee possible starters (Ojemudi, Hockaday, Levi Paulsen). There will be four class of 14 starters who began their career on scholarship at Iowa. The 16 class will have a far larger impact on the 18 season.

Leadership and chemistry will determine our 2018 season. No way to predict this right now. There are key areas of inexperience, but that can be overcome by the aforementioned. Stanleys development in the leadership dept. is imperative to adding to the win total. Emerging playmakers will also play a huge role in our success this year. Who can put things together and make the game changing plays in multiple games to give us the win? Think about all the close games we play (and lose) that could be turned into wins with players that can make the game breaking play.
