I am all-in as a Hawkeye fan. My wife says I would make a point to watch Iowa even if it was a battle between the 13th and 14th placed conference chess teams, assuming it included Iowa. Being an old dude, I remember well back into the Blevin years. Frankly, I thought the game was moving beyond her "small ball" mentality. Her teams routinely won, 2-0, 1-0 and in wild game 4-2! Blevins always had great pitching and half their wins were shoutouts. Hitting was then improving to a point where pitching and defense was not going to make it (IMHO). I had high hopes for Looper, who with a measure of courage, stepped forward during a difficult time. Still, years have gone by and things are not going well. It is hard to see a once very proud softball program fall to these depths. Maybe, enough time has passed to attract a coach that can succeed in the won/loss column. (I have no idea what success has been maintained in the classroom or with the way the team represents the university). Looper may stay because, frankly, I don't think the current Athletic Director cares far too little about the non-high profile teams. If Looper stays, i will continue to check in for progress, but my expectations are low. (Special thanks to the handful of regular contributors who comment on softball. BTW, cranko(whatever), my daughter now lives in JCMO... you live there right? Glad she is a Hawkeye, as I recall she had real options!)
