2019 Flo Big Board

Who is Iowa interested in, needs?? CO might be a good spot to snag some recruits.
2 JR Cohlton Schultz Ponderosa CO HWT - been mentioned, but probably no interest since taking 2 HWTs last 2 years
8 JR Theorius Robison Parker CO 141/149 - could fill in after Lugo
14 JR Matt Olguin Buchanan CA 141/149 - could fill in after Lugo **this is where Perry comes in handy
19 JR Ryan Reyes Clovis West CA 184 - **this is where Perry comes in handy
39 JR Aden Reeves Albia IA 133

EDIT - 149 won't be a need if Iowa gets Sasso, which I hope they do. Maybe he grows into a 157??

what about Murin filling in for Lugo? or has he been written off already?

Yeah Murin is going to be a beast. Not to mention that Happel is just a RS freshman and if he runs with the spot this year he could be hard to unseat.

Actually Turk as well if he wins the spot. He is only a soph and he could end up being a candidate for a 6th season due to the large amounts of time he has missed due to injury. IMO the 141 future is already in the room.

IMO 2019 is a weak class overall compared to the last few classes. A lot of 285's and the top ten doesn't really blow you away after McHenry. If I was Brands I would make darn sure I get the right 149 out of this class as I don't see Sasso happening. Then just save the money for the 2020 class because we could land a real good class led by instate kids Schriever and Happel. Get a few national elites with them and #1 class.

I like Reeves but not sure isn't 133 at the wrong time for Iowa. esp if Millidge is a year ahead.

McHenry has great potential but even bigger concerns about size than Lee. He weighs 115 as 17yo kid.

I think we could get Julian Rameriz and Robinson and build momentum with a #1 class. Some kids ranked #10-30 will be much higher later on.

Is there a reason you don't see sasso happening or is that just a guess?

Lee wrestled 110 as a 17 yo.

He had to cut ten pounds to get down there. If you want the true weight of these elite guys, look at what they wrestle in their high school season. Unless they are on an elite team, they usually go at full feed.

Who is the Colorado kid who pinned his way (including Sasso) through a national dual tournament recently? Is he available?

Anthony ulaszek is his name but I don't know much on him, he hasn't signed anywhere. Must be solid if he pinned sasso, he also pinned Fidel mayors at junior duals who is a stud Illinois kid from montini. Took 4th at UWW in Greco, I don't think he did freestyle

Full feed is not the true weight class, cutting is. How many college guys wrestle at full feed?

I think he is only a rising junior...Took 4th at the state tournament as a sophomore this past season after a top-3 showing in his rookie campaign in 2016 for Greeley Central.

I didn't say college...I said elite kids in high school normally do not cut weight or if they do, it's minimal.

^^^ that's ridiculous. what kids didn't pull hard last year?

i can name about 4 total 'elite' that cut just a bit.

Say what????

Why would they? They can beat guys in their state while not having to cut. Guys on our roster who didn't cut much weight in H.S.:

Lee
Happel-Wrestled 145 his senior...only a little bit heavier now
Kemerer-145
Sorensen-145
Marinelli-170...was a smallish 165 last year

Think Mark Hall cut much weight? Why would he have to?

To win worlds. Hard to win worlds up a weight. Spencer tried and couldn't even make the team. So he had to go down to his real weight class.

Im talking about their high school weights, not their freestyle weight. Some guys have to cut only because it's the closest weight. You make my point re: Lee...In an interview after he lost to Fix, he said he was the heaviest he has ever been at 125 when he got the call to try jrs at 110. He won PA at 120 that year.

Is the younger Happel really a leader of the 2020 class and a high tier recruit? Didn't Bennett from FD destroy him this year?

I wouldn't put much stock into the Bennett match. He has 2 years on Cael and first tournament of the year. He's a whole weight class bigger then Cael. If Teske wasn't at 120 I'm sure Bennnett would've been there

But then again Happel Is only a 1A wrestler:eek:

Right, but what I'm trying to determine is their best weight. That is the weight they go when they have to wrestle the best competition. Guys aren't able to wrestle "up" in college, even if a few might in high school.

Guys wrestle "up" in College all the time. Whether that is wise and/or a personal choice is another matter entirely (see Iowa - University of - 197 lbs).
