**************2024 All Class High School Football Thread***************

WH (AKA the Fearsome Eagle Beasts) lost MANY key players to graduation 5-2024.

I have never seen anything quite like THIS year's reload!

Must be due to the underlying aquifer.

2019 class A 11-1 lost in state title.
2020 class A 11-1 lost in state title
2021 class A 11-2 lost in state title
2022 class A 13-0 state champs.
2023 class 1A 13-0 state champs.
2024 class 1A 12-0 headed to title.
71-4 (3 of 4 Ls in title game.) current winning steak goes back to November 18 of 21, 38 games. Average score in games has been 33-6. They’ve also played 20 top 10 teams in that span. They also beat Woodbury Central in the title game. I was blown away by the size of them. I went and watched Coach Bremer’s Wildcats, who I had the pleasure of coaching at Sioux City East. Fantastic person and coach(other than liking Michigan) Csb.
What did all the Regina feeder farm system kids that helped them win 7 titles in a row start going to Grundy Center instead?

They know how to grow them in the western Hancock area compared to all the other parts of the state......................

Well, yes, I'm aware of all that. You said Liberty will be rolled but we beat Ankeny twice and Waukee. I'm not saying I'm expecting Liberty to win but I was going for more than SEP has cool uniforms.

I like ours better, to be honest.

IMO Ankeny, Centennial, and SEP are all down from prior years. Those are the 3 schools I follow the closest. My family is in the Ankeny high district FYI.

They are all gettable including SEP. SEP lost their very good QB who absolutely rolled Ankeny in the title game last year to ISU and he's actually #2 on the depth chart as a true freshman. There has been a lot of turnover there. I know nothing about anybody outside the metro but I would assume Liberty has as good of a chance to win this year as they may get depending on what is in the pipeline for schools like SEP.

Sorry to derail, but your comment about the SEP QB being #2...what the hell happened to JJ?

I used to live in North Iowa. WH went through several really bad seasons awhile back.

What changed?
There was one year that we were runnersup, followed by a 0-9 year.
That's about all I can recall.
Massive graduation losses that year.

Since our enrollments are usually down to static, I attribute our win rate to our coaching staff, mostly Britt natives.
We for sure aren't recruiting.

Thank you for the info. Sounds like SEP has some talent at WR that could be troublesome. Liberty doesn't get a ton of pressure on the QB as our lines are undersized and LBs need to help with run d. That leaves our corners on an island. Of which we maybe have 1 senior.

I'm about to head up there as soon as the family gets home. This has been good for the Liberty community. It's odd having our town (22k) split into two school districts but the east side is starting to show up more for Liberty events. It's hard being a new school and creating that culture but it is getting there. No matter what happens tonight, I'm proud of our guys.

Why did a town of 22k make two high schools in the first place. And you should be proud of them, great accomplishment regardless of the size of school.

62 yard TD pass from Reece Rettig to Dallas Miller to put Liberty up 28-24 in the 4th. Miller now has 8 receptions for 245 yard and 2 TD's

Not sure why Chandler wanted those two onside kick?
I was wondering about that myself. Strategic or is there an issue with the kicker? Also Liberty went for it on 4th rather than attempting a ~36 yd FG to tie earlier in the Qtr

Disappointing effort from SE Polk, not letting an eastern Iowa team get a chance to win a state title. Very disappointing. They should be ashamed, really.

Our kick team has given up long play after long play all season. We intentionally kick out of bounds to just give up the ball at the 35.

Something that I'm sure wasn't noticed is that our big DT got hurt and was crying in the stands telling his parents he was done before going back on the field. That completely changed the game as we just couldn't plug up the holes anymore or get pressure up the middle. As became evident, we just don't have the depth needed to support injuries. Few kids had to go two ways from there.

For anyone watching... I was at the game and it looked like a pick live, looked like a pick on replay. Was it a pick? That ball did not touch the ground from what I saw. The next play SEP retook the lead on that 40 yard pass on 4th.

A couple of real rough calls against Liberty but that's how it goes sometimes.

Incredibly proud of the Bolts. The smallest 5A school with a losing record the year before. Special year.

While I know you are making fun of us but I'm really proud of this team from where they came from last year and a new coach. Lots of tears from kids in the stands which means they actually cared. Something I didn't think I would ever see.

I'm making fun of Southeast Polk and the CISECML...........

Isn't Liberty composed of North Liberty, some of Northern Coralville, and part of N/NE Iowa City?

We do get a sliver (litetally a few neighborhoods) in North Coralville and a few of that part of IC but the number of students from there is pretty low. Some open enroll to West.

We do have one elementary school that physically touches the junior high that feeds to West and West gets an elementary school that has kids that can see Liberty from their house.

Tough loss. As a NL res, in the CCA district, we were pulling for the Bolts. I know a few of the kids coming up in the 27 and 28 class as my son has played with a lot of those guys...more good years to come for Liberty,

The freshman class struggles quite a bit, unfortunately. I think the junior high has some solid classes. Sophomores already had a few kids playing significant minutes.

An unpopular opinion but I wish that North Liberty would just be one high school for the whole town in our own school district. It will never happen but just my thought.

When Liberty opened I thought of open enrollment as we're closer to Lib than CCA. As the years have past I'm glad we didn't as my son has really bonded with his friends and teammates and the parents are all pretty tight.

CCA has some great skill position players coming up with a pretty solid QB in the class of 28. The big need is in beef up front but I know Coach Pedersen is a line guy so hope we can build some guys up. Goal is to get to the Dome in the fall of 26.

Good luck to the ⚡ next year.

CCA as well. I have no ill will against any of their programs.

Curious, because I'm too lazy to look...how close is CCA to outgrowing the 3A/4A enrollment and bumping to large school?

That's a good question. I'm not sure when we'll bump up 5A but it'll be in the next 10-15 years. Thankfully my last one graduates in 2027 so we will miss that leap, his class has ~250 kids.

There is a lot being built west of 965 and in Tiffin so numbers will continue to grow and grow quickly. I hope the district is in good hands to prepare for all of it, but it's not something I really keep an eye on since we're just finishing up.
