**************2024 All Class High School Football Thread***************

Liberty will get “rik-rolled” this week. Quit worrying. Dowling lost its games because they got outscored. There are several pretty strong teams in Polk County. IT is kind of like the old Mississippi River conference of the 60’s-70’s and into the early 80’s….SEP has to be a real contender because they have way cool uniforms.
Both schools in Ankeny were very good this year, too….as was one of the Waukee schools. The suburban schools have great coaches and are well financed programs.

Well, yes, I'm aware of all that. You said Liberty will be rolled but we beat Ankeny twice and Waukee. I'm not saying I'm expecting Liberty to win but I was going for more than SEP has cool uniforms.

I like ours better, to be honest.

“Ours”? Who’s “ours”? I could have given you the usual bullshit about SEP having good coaches, good players, and experienced QB and great facilities….SEP takes second to nobody with their new stuff..,.,..and it is a HUGE district….and it has nothing to do but grow bigger the next decade or so. Urbandale is getting out as it is locked in to”no growth” and frankly, it cannot compete with Johnston, Ankeny, Waukee, SEP…and soon to be Norwalk and even Carlisle in a decade or so. Then there is DC-Grimes, Adel that are growing like weeds. I think these schools will be moving up a class within 10 years, too…….

Liberty's. Sorry I thought that was implied. Yes, SEP is growing a ton. I'm pretty sure Liberty is the smallest of the 5A schools. Capacity has been hit for awhile with no plan to build on at the moment. Gross oversight by the school district when building this school. BAU...

For those that know the Des Moines teams much better than myself. Help me with 5A.

Obviously Liberty ended up being much better than I thought and have been really creative on offense. Both offensive and defensive lines, I'm assuming, will be undersized against SE Polk like they have against... almost everyone?

All 4 teams are good but what is the read on the other 3 teams here?

Valley has had two close games and almost lost to SC East. Johnston seems solid and did put up 35.

Dowling is rich, recruits and probably has dudes at every position. What were their weaknesses, why did they lose?

SE Polk I'm genuinely confused by their record. They are almost always good and have a track record of great, D1 players. How did they lose so many games?

I'm nervous because Liberty's offense really stalled for the first time against Ankeny last weekend. Lots of tape on them and some of it might be started to be figured out. I'm not sure we have the Jimmy's and Joe's to overpower anyone. We are just smart with the ball and usually keep the chains moving.
Just fire the DSM suburb schools and replace them with schools less committed to winning.

So fire them and replace them with schools that will stop growing and over-investing in athletics...........

I'm not sure what you are saying. We are trying our best to catch them. They have been the standard for awhile. I'm saying our community did a poor job in the creation of our school. That's a "us" problem, not a them problem. I'm proud of our kids for competing and winning with sometimes 1,000 less kids in the school.

I figure I’d better revisit the thread I started.

What a beating the Tri-Center Trojans put on ACGC Friday night. 47-20. Really 41-20 as TC stripped, scooped and scored on the final play of the game. By mid 3rd quarter ACGC had enough. I think TC only punted 1 time all game and was +4 in turnovers.

Should be interesting vs Saint Ansgar, 1pm game Thursday. They run a similar style of offense as ACGC. However, their leading rusher, top receiver and linebacker went down in the first quarter Friday with a lower leg injury. 1000+ yard rusher. Little dude, but fast.

Tri-Center’s first trip to the UNI-Dome. Heck it was our first playoff win in our school history and now we’ve rattled off 3 dominant wins in the post season. Go Trojans!!!

CIML tiers this year:
Tier1-- Dowling/Valley/Ankeny Centennial/Johnston
Tier2--SEP/Ankeny/Waukee

Thanks to the faulty RPI system that punishes CIML teams for beating up on each other, Liberty was gifted a path to the finals.

Nah, I gifted them that path because it's 2024. Nobody wants to see the DSM suburbs win State titles anymore............

I'm a little confused on your argument. You claim that the CIML is punished for beating up on each other but still got 7 out of the 9 teams in the conference in the playoffs of 16 teams. That is significantly higher than any other conference. Their RPI also put Waukee (rightly) in the playoffs over 6-3 Hempstead and 7-2 Ottumwa.

Now, that same argument can be applied to how Liberty had a much more difficult path as a 1 seed than they should have. The worst teams to make the playoffs were Waterloo West, SC East and IC High. Liberty did not get to play any of those teams and had to deal with a tough Waukee team where Centennial, Valley and Johnston all essentially had a bye (other than Valley who made life difficult for themselves). Valley and Dowling did have a tough game but the team that was GIFTED a path was SE Polk. PV had struggled down the stretch and looked different than they had early on in the year. PV lost to IC West in the last game of the regular season who SE Polk then got to play in the semi final.

Meanwhile Liberty drew Waukee and Ankeny (who they beat twice). So does that put Liberty in tier 1 of the CIML since they won 3 games against playoffs teams that were severely underrated teams, per the state but still tier 2 of the CIML? Liberty also went 7-1 against teams in the playoffs.

Not that difficult to understand. Liberty hasn’t played a top tier CIML team all season….& both Valley & Dowling had beat one to make the dome.

Liberty can’t compete with either of those teams in the trenches & will get rolled if they make the final.

Liberty has been undersized on the line in almost every game played, by a lot. Personally, I don't think Liberty will beat SEP. Valley and SEP have like 800-1,000 more kids at their school. Liberty is the smallest school in 5A. I'm proud of the kids and the program as it continues to grow... no matter what.

My point was you said Liberty was gifted a path to the semi but had to play two tough CIML teams (not tier 1) but you claimed they were all underrated... which would seem unfair that a #1 seed would have to play. The question is would you rather play 2 tough CIML teams to get to the dome or play one easy game and one really tough game to go to state? I'd take my shot with one game to go to state. I also think SEP had the easiest path to get to state. Also, again, regardless of seed, I won't feel too bad for CIML teams because they got 7 out of 9 teams in the playoffs, which is fair.

Either way, not looking to argue. I'm really just looking for information on these teams at the Dome without everyone just crapping on the Bolts.

CIML schools not being good at sports > CIML teams dominating at sports while all the dad jeans "okay pal" affluent golf bro dads assume the power stance watching intently while coaching from the bleachers

Let's try to be better human beings and do more of the first thing and less of the second thing. Tell all the CIML parents and coaches and spread the word. Thanks! The world, and Kirk Ferentz, thanks you as well. :D

Not sure where your hatred for the CIML comes from......maybe a Valley kid stole your girl back in the 80's? Hate all you want, but fact is they've dominated 5A for a while & deserved the top 2-3 seeds this year.

Close OE, see what that impact is. Public schools are way better at recruiting than the private schools are. 1,800 kids back into DMPS, 1,200 kids back into CRPS may have an impact.

Nice to see GR actually make it past Don Bosco. Grundy County could have 3 finalist if Dike/Grundy pull it off.

It's simple. I'm an Iowa guy. I support Iowa athletics. And what we don't need in this state is our own version of the SEC dominating high school sports. And they're gonna f***ing deal with it. That's what they deserve.

Friends? :D

As long as the eastern Iowa 5A schools continue dipping their toe in vs. DSM area teams during the regular season, I'd think they'd start closing that gap. Every year the schedules for CIML teams are absolute meatgrinders. Every week you have Valley, Dowling, Centennial, Johnston, SEP, Ankeny, Waukee(s), etc. playing each other. Iron sharpens iron. The top CR/CF/IC area teams have maybe one or two genuinely tough regular season games, and that's it. Then they get to the Dome and get splattered. Keep exposing them to CIML teams during the regular season and they should start catching up.

Well then don't be.........

As for "little", I can't help you with that. Try wearing bigger boots? 🤔
MonkeyOutTheCloset when yet another CIML team wins the title 🤣

Should be a great game; the two best teams in 4A all season.

2019 class A 11-1 lost in state title.
2020 class A 11-1 lost in state title
2021 class A 11-2 lost in state title
2022 class A 13-0 state champs.
2023 class 1A 13-0 state champs.
2024 class 1A 12-0 headed to title.
71-4 (3 of 4 Ls in title game.) current winning steak goes back to November 18 of 21, 38 games. Average score in games has been 33-6. They’ve also played 20 top 10 teams in that span. They also beat Woodbury Central in the title game. I was blown away by the size of them. I went and watched Coach Bremer’s Wildcats, who I had the pleasure of coaching at Sioux City East. Fantastic person and coach(other than liking Michigan) Csb.

West Hancock should be getting props as well though. They did really benefit from GC moving up to 1A.
2018: Lost semi-finals
2019: Champs
2020: lost to GC in Quarters
2021: Champs
2022: Lost to GC finals
2023: Champs
2024: In the finals

For sure. They held Grundy from winning in 19. I remember watching that 2019 squad on tv and was amazed at the size they had. Especially in the backfield.
