2024 Cooper Koch: “I think Fran McCaffery is one of the Most Underrated Coaches in the Country in terms of Developing Players."

You’re grossly misrepresenting my POV, if you think I’m sick and tired of Fran or if you think I have any aspirations of influencing decisions made within the program

You’re going to be waiting a while for your burger if you’re expecting it to come from me
Poor you. I don't normally eat at McDonald's so don't sweat it.

If you are okay with McC, that's great. Good for you! Some positive vibes would be good for the kids who play for Iowa and the coaches who coach them. They sure get a load of crap from some "fans".

Yea, it's too bad those coaches don't get handsomely compensated.

If you don’t like my vibes then put me on ignore. You’d be doing us both a big favor

Back to the topic at hand: I don't know much about young Koch. Does he realistically project to be an effective B1G player or is he just a better than average legacy that we will take a fling on?

The way Fran recruits and fails in the portal he needs to be elite at developing players and he is for some but plenty of of misses in that area too. Hence the zero big ten titles or sweet 16's in 12 seasons. Player development only goes so far when you have a broken philosophy of undervaluing defense, consistently mediocre to shit guard play, and suck ass in the portal

Wow....did you just get released or something? This tired argument has been worn out but maybe you've missed the repeated discussions and lengthy threads on this topic?

We have 1 regular season Big Ten Championship since 1970. That was in 1979. So obviously the history is not great! Not going to blame Fran for not taking us to the promised land. It was nice to see a Big Ten tourney championship though this year!

Based on who else is recruiting him (offers from IL, IN, WI, and Purdue, to name a few) and reports on his play, it seems obvious that he is a highly sought-after recruit. "Legacy" or not, he'd be a recruiting win.

Uh, how about pounding the ball inside because they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Tell Keegan to get down low and stay there and tell everyone else to get him the damn ball down low!! That was easy, any other questions?
it doesn’t work that way…lol…they were double teaming inside which was why we were getting good looks from three.. make afew and it becomes a non issue but of corse Fran’s fault players were not making wide open threes.

I'm not sure when Rivals or other sites do their '24 class updates, but I'd guess he's a high 4*. Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and Wisconsin are all after him pretty hard. I listened to JR on one podcast during the season, and he said that he's pushing for Iowa but that it's Coop's decision ultimately. They went to a ton of games this year, I want to say they went to a Big Ten game each week and just traveled around. He'd be a big get, regardless of if his dad is a Hawkeye through and through.

Hey Fran, What's the deal with Connor Turnbull visiting on April 19th ? Is he not going to Missouri ?

Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana and Wake Forest (HC Steve Forbes is from Lone Tree, Iowa) all want him.

As an fyi to everyone, this 2022 guy was previously committed to Butler.

I had no idea he was visiting Iowa; where did you see that? As you can see in what follows, Iowa has reached out to him.

From a HawkCentral recruiting mail bag column:

Is Iowa still recruiting J.R. Koch's son, Cooper Koch?

You bet.

I checked with Cooper Koch, a four-star, 6-8 power forward out of Peoria who is one of eight 2024 prospects Iowa has offered, this week to see if the Hawkeyes were still involved. They became his first high-major offer last May.

And, yes, they are still very much involved. Any quietness on the Iowa/Koch front has likely been due to him being in the 2024 class, while most current attention is focused on wrapping up 2022 and identifying top 2023 targets.

"(Iowa was) at every game I played this weekend in Indianapolis," said Koch, who plays AAU for Indiana Elite on the adidas 3SSB circuit.

Koch's other current high-major offers include Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Wake Forest and Purdue. But, again, with him just being a sophomore, you can safely expect that offer list to grow for the four-star, top-50 national prospect.

Still, the Hawkeyes should be considered a strong contender. Koch's dad, J.R. Koch, played for Iowa from 1995-99 and was drafted by the New York Knicks before a six-year professional career in the U.S. and Europe. - Matthew Bain
