2025-26 Roster - Update Tracker

BS move by Fran.
But probably laughed about in locker room.
Bush league shot by Luke, and Fran wanted to make sure that Collins knew he didn't approve of that. Play to the whistle and all that crap or have a little respect for your opponent.

I disagree. Guy has strong upside.
Tadjo - stats Hawkeyes played 33 games - Tadjo only got in 11 - are you sure he is needed at Iowa ???? hahahahahahahahahaha

I watched Tadjo play 3 times in the Canadian equivelent of AAU tourneys Out East in Ontario and He ran the comp off the court all 3 times , Was easily the best Player on the court, very athletic, With a real Coach who puts polish on His game You got a really good Player , He played above the rim and was really quick and finished hard in the paint.

Tadjo got only a few minutes in garbage time under Fran. I forget which game, but he got a rebound on 1 side of the basket and then
did a reverse dunk on the other side in traffic.....I remember thinking....holy crap, there is no one on the Iowa roster other than that guy that could do that athletic move.

Now I also saw Tadjo fumble with the ball and look a little silly at times.. If you compare Dembele and Tadjo, both are unskilled and seem to not know what they are supposed to do. The big difference is Tadjo can jump out the gym and is athletic freak. I think Dembele leaving and keeping Tadjo for some upside is a good idea. If McCollum can teach him defense, Tadjo would be off the charts even if his only offensive move is dunks. He could have matched up athletically with that 6'9 dude for Texas Tech that made Drake's team look like little boys.

One of the coaches on the outgoing staff mentioned that Tadjo gets really down on himself when he makes a mistake. To me, that sounds like a kid who really cares and wants to get better. He’s certainly got some intriguing tools to work with.

In the immediate gratification world we live in fans want to see results right away, but I think that if the staff is patient with Tadjo, it could really pay off in the end.

I’m quite sure Ben couldn’t care less what Tadjo’s stats were in the limited court time he played as a freshman. He probably should have redshirted. Ben used the redshirt at NWMO for some players that turned into stars for him.

Not sure if you actually watched any games this year, but there were sequences where Traore was the best option we had on both ends of the court. He needs to stay and possibly start.
I felt like Traore’s role on the team was poorly defined by the coaching staff this past season, especially on offense. If he sticks around, I think he could be a lot more productive with better coaching on what’s expected of him and where his best opportunities on offense exist.

So because Fran gave all the minutes to older guys, Fran who we just fired btw. Tadjo couldn’t be a good player. Clueless

There’s this other end of the floor called the defensive end. I know that’s a tough thing to grasp after having Fran for 15 years, but it is kind of important

We really do not know which players will improve under BM system. Will be different than Fran's system. Pryce will have an adjustment with shot selection will need to be adjusted. At least I believe that will have to happen. Other players, who know. They may excel or not fit.

I think BM will know more than us.

Have any of these guys been linked to Iowa? We need some bigs, don't we?
Oscar Cuff, SDSU
Ante Brzovic, College of Charleston
Christoph Tilly, Santa Clara
Noah Williamson, Bucknell
Lathan Sommerville, Rutgers
Bryce Hopkins, Providence
Alvaro Folgueiras, Robert Morris
Cooper Schwieger, Valpo
Nick Davidson, Nevada

Freshman from isu would be nice too

"As we alluded to in a piece earlier this week, every single member of the class of 2015 has transferred. Only Isaiah Moss played truly meaningful minutes from that group.
The class of 2014 isn’t much better. Fran McCaffery brought in a three-player recruiting class (not including walk-on Nicholas Baer), and only Dom Uhl finished his career with the Iowa basketball team. For his career, he averaged just 12.8 minutes per game and 3.4 points per game. Junior college transfer Trey Dickerson spent just one season in Iowa City before leaving and sharpshooter Brady Ellingson graduate transferred to Drake for his final year of eligibility." from the Dear Old Gold site.

As you can see Fran had lots of problems -

The question comes up here often about defense. I've always been under the impression that offensive skills are after years of practice. I believe, if one is a decent athlete, he can be taught defense. The timeline for teaching defense is way shorter than teaching shooting or offensive skills.
That's why, in my opinion, we can became a decent defensive and rebounding team fairly quickly under the new coach. Rebounding is all about position and boxing out plus hustle.

If we recruit good shooting and ball handlers teaching them (or expecting them) to play good defense will come quickly.

It would be wild if Latham Somerville ended up at Iowa, being as how his dad was briefly a member of the team before transferring without playing a game.

Could be kind of a full-circle moment.

This is somewhat off-topic, but while thinking about portal transfers I was wondering whatever happened to Omaha Biliew. He averaged about 3 pts per game as a freshman at ISU and also as a soph at Wake Forest. Is he one of the most over-rated players ever, or maybe still has potential?

I think people(evaluators) were so enthralled with his physical appearance and ability to dunk that they didn't pay attention to any other part of his game, which was lacking.

I watched him (Biliew) at ISU and he is a very good athlete, but not a great BBall player IMO. Of course that was two years ago, so.....

Oh but NIL is what was holding him back.

I had forgotten that Brady went to Drake…anyone know how he did? Tia

He seemed to be the poster child of a typical Fran recruit. 😎

Posters on this board being enthralled by the dunk? Say it's not so!
It’s a play that happens 3 times a game. Maybe 10 times on a good day, but hardly a game changer. Just a highlight thing that people get hung up on. FTR, I like dunks. I like winning more.

I was thinking about that too and about Xavier Foster. Remember how he was the in-state must get one and done guy before Billew? Turns out Foster is still playing - looks like he played spot minutes over 11 games for Radford.
