2025 MBB Recruiting Thread

No, I don't believe Brock will ever see the NBA, and since you have little faith in his ability to lead Iowa, I guess it will be up to Harding to do the convincing.
I don't know if you were taking a crap when Brock was on the floor last year, but evidently you were amongst the few that didn't see Iowa's offense ran smother and was more efficient when he was in the game. That's OK In 3 months you'll have that opportunity to witness how good he is.
You're just making yourself the stupid ignorant old man that can't see greatness. 3 months to see who is right, my optimum or your negativity. Can't wait to find out the end result. Mike Drop!
First of all, it's mic drop. There is no "mike" in microphone. In a war based on intellect you're proving to be unarmed.

I know I've seen him often dribble dribble dribble, get trapped and not move the ball around in a motion offense. I know I've seen him let his man blow by him and try to reach around and swiped the ball away & gamble on defense, meanwhile our stud freshman center was covering a two on one & getting into foul trouble. I know I've seen other teams take advantage of his size as soon as he enters the game.

He has his warts & you have your blinders on. But then again you think Riley Mulvey is going to play significant minutes and Traore won't. Much like Brock & Riley do, I rest my case.

With fans like you, and I say that loosely, why in heck would any recruit come to Iowa that doesn't have connections to the Iowa program or to Fran. They can read too, you know.
You and your Fran haters continue to rail on Fran to leave or retire because he has not fulfilled your Iowa post season fancies yet in taking Iowa to the 2nd week of the NCAA tournament, boo hoo.
Now when it's apparent that Fran has no desire to retire at this time you and others on here, turn on the players hoping they fail and not contribute to a potentially successful year, and I'm saying POTENTIALLY, in hopes that forces Fran to retire or leave.
I understand we live in America and free speech and all, but your agenda is getting old and if I was a recruit why in heck would I want to come to Iowa with crappy fans like you.
Me, I'm 76 years old at the end of August, I can take the criticism for my point of view, so bring it on.
If you have posted on this board before as I have everyone has at one time or another been critical of players, usually it's during the season and that's understandable, but not before a season has even started, that's BS.

"...because he has not fulfilled your Iowa post season fancies yet in taking Iowa to the 2nd week of the NCAA tournament, boo hoo."

Boo hoo?

If you honestly believe that ZERO Sweet 16 appearances in 25 YEARS is acceptable, then you're kind of "fan" that coaches love: Low expectations.

Iowa men's basketball fans are correct to assume that their team should be able win just two games in an NCAA Tourney more than once a quarter-century.

Enjoy your criticism.

Is Mike okay? You may have hurt him when you dropped him.

In order to hopefully stop the back and forth, I'll weigh in on Harding. I think he is somewhere between what Ill and Luka are suggesting. He clearly is a really good ballhandler, who sees the court well and will help the offense flow, He will deliver dimes to guys who can shoot or move well without the ball. If he shows he can hit 3s, it will help. On defense, Harding has good energy and pretty good quickness (better overall than JBo, as a comp), but his size does put him at a disadvantage that smart players and coaches will figure out how to take advantage of. I expect Thelwell to start at PG, mostly because he has experience and has shown that he is a team leader, but I wouldn't be surprised if Harding gets almost as many minutes at PG, with Thelwell getting some minutes at the 2. We need both of them, because Dix is a much better off guard.

Anything interesting about Frost see he only has two OV. One with PSU and this weekend with Iowa. Fall back recruit or take him if he commits?

How nice if you to wade in.

I just watched his highlights and from my untrained eye he looks like a baller.

24/7 considers Ryder Frost a 4 star prospect.

2 big official visits this weekend:

My take on Frost:
  • 6'6" 205 lbs
  • Can 2 hand dunk easily and moves well offensively
  • Good to very good ball handling for a 2G
  • Pure perimeter shooter - great form and elite percentage out to 26 feet or so. Shot 45% from 3 in a recent sample
  • Elite at SPACING without the ball - can find space against defenses to catch and shoot and is extremely smooth if given any space
  • Solid passer, team player
  • Very average defensively
I like him - a very Fran type of player. When your program can't land Top 75 black athletes from out of state easily, you end up with players who are in the 125-200 range who are athletic but can't shoot (Touissant, Ulis et al) or have high skill but are not athletic (we are familiar with these). Pick your poison.

Outside Summary (public):

Frost is one of the best shooters in high school basketball, who knocked down 45% of threes in UAA play. He's also a specialist who took over 75% of his attempted shots from behind the arc. He's a movement shooter, who excels at getting balanced with his feet set, but he is often best on more condensed cuts at this point.

Physically, Frost is powerful, with a thick, yet cut, frame that has obviously been earned in the weight room. But he does have somewhat heavier feet on the defensive end. He's shown some growth getting downhill when run off the line, but lacks elite lift at the rim. Frost is a willing passer and reliable decision-maker (2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio), but he likes to jump pass in the lane and can struggle to throw against his momentum at times. The bottom line is that he's one of the most potent floor-spacers in the class, with shot-making to be weaponized in a team's playbook, but still needs to find more ways to consistently impact a high-level game when his shots aren't falling.

sounds like PS 2.0

2 big official visits this weekend:

My take on Brady Koehler:
  • 6'8" 180 lbs
  • I think he's definitely a long SF and not a PF, both due to frame but also his game fits that role
  • Athletic enough for SF, good ball skills and foot agility. Not explosive athlete but a smooth athlete
  • Best skill is his very high, left handed release above and almost behind his head (a bit like Larry Bird but not exactly)
  • Gets shot off even when defenders are nearby due to his release - can shoot mid-range this way
  • Very good face up shooter from the perimeter
  • Smooth ball handler in the open court
  • Will need strength to defend the SF position in college (and rebounding)
I tend to like him more than Frost simply because of his length and better athleticism. Not sure if he's still growing but his frame needs to fill out more. If he can shoot the 3 a few feet beyond the college line, he projects as a Sandfort type player offensively and maybe a better ball handler, but not as good of a rebounder.

Would sure be nice to see the Hawks get a couple early commits from these visitors. Like Koch last year and Freeman the year before.

No pictures of Frost? Looks like Koehler and his parents had a good visit.
I think it’s the players decision on whether to post the pics to social media.

The school obviously has their people take the photos and create the media, etc, but the schools aren’t allowed to share it; only the player. (I think)

Interesting

Speculation just from looking at offer lists and other supposed lean intels/rumors
Recruits with decent shot at

Juan Guerra Hernandez if he visits
Brady Koehler
Matt Gihool
Chase Thompson would not be shocked if he verbals soon after this weekend.
Tommy Anhem
Dezman Briscoe
Adlan Elamin if he visits. But if his offer list blows up might strike him.

I'm hearing a team to the west is offering a large NIL package to get Ahneman to commit there. Had been hearing ND until recently. Hawks do develop their bigs, which has to intrigue Tommy, not sure Fran will play that game.

Who are the guards Iowa is most likely to land? That will be by far the greatest need, assuming current underclassmen return.
