2025 MBB Recruiting Thread

Monday morning speculation on where Iowa sits with recruits

Chase Thompson strong chance at verballing to Iowa
Winters Grady strong up tick in Iowa’s chances. Oregon still a tough beat
Mazi Mosley show me the money? Top bidder gets him imo.
Amari Bynum same as Mazi
Tommy Anhem not sure. Someone else on here supposedly knows his family.
Others that have visited I think chances are remote to nil.
Most of these 4 and 5 star players are interested in NIL. Bynum and Ahneman are both Nebraska leans. Mazi you are probably spot on. Thompson and maybe Koehler are the only visitors I feel good about. Walker will probably stay in the SEC. Grady's interesting, he sees Wieskamp and then Sandfort. Fran's offense favors good shooters.

Don’t think so on Koehler. Probably closer to home.
Grady right now is the one who is as you say interesting.

Thompson would be a good get, but the position Iowa has the least need. Was hoping Mosley was more than a negotiation visit. Fran really needs to find a PG.

DOMINOS FALLING FOR 4-STAR WINTERS GRADY

Creighton scored a massive commitment for four-star forward Hudson Greer last week. The commitment was a big one for the Bluejays, who now have a long, athletic wing in the fold for 2025.

And while the situation is a net positive for Doug McDermott’s program, it also seems to have all but eliminated them from the race to land Winters Grady, who now may or may not make his scheduled visit to Omaha.

No decision on the upcoming visit has been made just yet, but the Bluejays seem unlikely to land Grady’s letter of intent with a similar prospect already in the fold.

With Creighton all but out of the race, Iowa, Michigan and Oregon seem like the main players to sign the Oregon-based Grady.

The more tapes I see of Thompson, the more I like his game.
I'm not saying he's a bad player, he's just not an above average athlete. Nothing wrong with that. Most of the good white players in the NBA are crafty but not athletic.

Did you think Aaron White was an above average athlete? Thompson looks very similar to me. Just need to find out if he has the same motor.
White was above average in some ways and not in others. I’d say he was a slightly above average athlete for college. If you compared him to NBA players I’d say he was average to slightly below average.

Some great basketball players are only "average athletes" (e.g., Larry Bird), while many great athletes never become great BB players (or any other sport). I like Chase Thompson's tapes because they are NOT just someone doing the same thing (3 pt shots, dunking, etc) over and over. His tapes show he can play basketball and has multiple skills already as junior in HS. This is especially impressive for a big kid, because they usually take longer to develop. I'm saying this from a few minutes of several tapes, so I could be wrong, but I would gladly take him, as long as the next 3 recruits for 2025 are not also PFs.

No argument from me. I even stated as much earlier in the thread.

So who is ready to get kicked in the balls.
Chase Thompson done with visits
Koehler done with visits
Walker done with visits
Mozi supposedly done with visits.
Frost done with visits.

I know very little about recruiting, but if Fran gets two of these guys, preferably not at a similar position, I think we should be pretty happy. Any predictions from those in the know? Thompson seems most likely, but that is about all I know.

Koehler just committed to Notre Dame. Of the above listed Walker and maybe Mozi, but I’m thinking Michigan or LSU for Mozi. Not sure.

Will be hugely surprised if it is anybody other than Auburn. Nice that Fran got a visit but Auburn is the home state school.
Yep appears Iowa is missing on every guard target that has visited. Expect Frost and Mosley announcing for somewhere else soon as well. Guess the staff moves into the next guards.

Because of the portal’s affect on recruiting in general, I had hoped Fran would find more high school success this year with his “I can make you into that high NIL $ player if you come here. “
Seemed like more interest, good visits. But,…

crazy that we got a commit from the 2026 class before the 2025 class

IMO, FM usually cannot seem to close the deal in recruiting on 4/5 star players. It will be even more problematic at this point given 1) his age 2) reputation, 3) NCAA tourney history, 4) Indiana connections/leaving 5) no BIG championships ever, 6) usually .500 +/- record, etc. JMO, but Iowa should cut their losses with him as coach and move on.

We all want 4 & 5 star players, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and state I like the current makeup of this team.
I think they are going to be tougher. Of course they will struggle on defense, but they won’t back down and will have Harding’s personality.
