3 Pretty good jobs opened up today...

Indiana should have the pick of the litter and would expect Minnesota to get someone a bit more established this time around. I am guessing isu will hire a good mid major and hope for gold.

The mayor has to be coming back to his city right?

These places (Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa State) will get decent applicants, I am sure. With ALL games and teams and coaches in central Indiana this weekend, the rumors will be flying.....
Apparently Penn State opened up "officially" today.

I think Micah Shrewsberry will do well there, especially given the low expectations of that job.

He has a great pedigree given his time with Brad Stevens and Matt Painter.

Penn State just might knock IU out of the top half of the B1G. ;)

Not so sure about Indiana. Their arena is a crumbling POS, they're far removed from the glory days (think Nebraska football) and their fans have unusually high expectations (think Nebraska football again).

Minnesota will pick someone with connections to the U of M and/or Twin Cities. Mark it down. The provincial nature of Twin Citians is quiet predictable. Word is, they want Brian Dutcher, currently at SDSU.

ISU looks to have their eyes on TJ Otzenberger...UNLV HC and former clown assistant under Freddie.

For you to make that statement about IU assembly Hall, Obviously you haven't been there in a few years. Because if you had, you would not have said that .

Nope, I haven't. If they've fixed it up, great. Still, the IU basketball job isn't what it was 15-20 years ago (see Nebraska football)

Refresh my memory
Why was Penn St's coach let go?

Difference is that IU is in the middle of a hotbed for basketball talent. Nebraska never had the same situation for football talent. All it takes for IU is a few top tier local players to sign with them and a coach that knows how to use them. If Painter can do what he’s done at Purdue over his tenure, there’s no reason that IU can’t get back to competing for the Big Ten title and 2nd or 3rd weekend runs in the NCAAs.

Painter has done a great job at PU. IU can compete too with the right coach, no doubt. But there's nothing "magical" about the Indiana job.

I agree. ^^ 2 or 3 really good BB players mixed in with another 1/2 dozen pretty good ones can form a very nice team and that can potentially be done very quickly these days with the easy transferring. FB...you probably need 6 to 10 high level "difference maker" players to go along with another 2 or 3 dozen really good ones. Just numbers alone make it easier to restore a BB team IMO.

Also, Indiana BB is much better off geographically than is Nebraska FB, as there is much more population to draw off within say "driving distance" of Bloomington than Lincoln.

If I were a BB coach with big aspirations I would be most interested in the IU job. I am not saying it would be easy, but it would be far easier to rebuild that than Nebby FB.

It is easier to recruit to Indiana than Purdue and Painter has thrived at Purdue The Magic is you just need some coaching ability and ability to project HS kid's ability to next level so you make good choices on who you offer. The recruiting largely takes care of itself because there is so much local talent.

Pudue's recruiting class for 2021 looks strong (2 top 40 players)....better than the normal/average Purdue class. They are going to be tough for a while. Their team this year is pretty young.....

I just went and looked at their roster.....NO seniors on that team. They have 4 or 5 pretty good juniors and some good freshman...add next year's class and they look very tough.

Wow. PSU will pretty much be starting from scratch unless the new coach can convince those players to change their minds. Seems odd that the AD wouldn't listen to the players preference, especially when it was pretty much unanimous.

I think most ADs know a new coach needs to have his own players. In MBB, if you're any good, you can be competitive in 2-3 pretty easily. I doubt basketball is the $$$ maker anyway. That $$$ comes from B1G revenue rights for basketball. JMO
