Bill Belichick/New England cut four of the five former Hawkeyes on his roster, including offensive lineman James Ferentz. Also getting pink slips were offensive linemen Cole Croston and Matt Tobin, and wide receiver Riley McCarron. On Sunday, the Patriots signed Croston, Ferentz and McCarron to their practice squad.
Other ex-Hawkeyes who got released on Saturday as NFL teams got down to their 53-player regular-season rosters were:

Also cut was quarterback Jake Rudock, who had been with the Detroit Lions the last two years after playing his senior season at Michigan as a graduate transfer from Iowa. The Lions will re-sign Rudock to their practice squad.

As for Iowa State, rookie linebacker Joel Lanning and rookie offensive lineman Jake Campos were cut by the Dallas Cowboys and rookie wide receiver Allen Lazard was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars, then signed to the Jaguars’ practice squad. Campos was signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad.
