Is he ready now to be a day 1 starter? Probably not, but the tools are definitely there.

The question is gonna be will he get the chance to run as the guy an organization is all in on. Garappolo seems to be the clear cut #1 in San Francisco, but Beathard is an injury away from playing. We've all seen though that it doesn't necessarily mean that he will be the guy they want going forward, especially if the team struggles.

I feel that Beathard will get his chance, but I don't know that it'll be in San Francisco, unless Garappolo doesn't pan out (which is possible).

I think this is the perfect situation for CJ he's going to get to sit hopefully for a year too and I think eventually he'll get his chance somewhere

On the plus side, there are far worse things than carving out a career as a back up nfl QB. If he can hang around in regular roster status for 5 to 7 years, that's not a bad chunk of change in addition to regular pension benefits starting at age 55.

Bill Belichick/New England cut four of the five former Hawkeyes on his roster, including offensive lineman James Ferentz. Also getting pink slips were offensive linemen Cole Croston and Matt Tobin, and wide receiver Riley McCarron. On Sunday, the Patriots signed Croston, Ferentz and McCarron to their practice squad.

Other ex-Hawkeyes who got released on Saturday as NFL teams got down to their 53-player regular-season rosters were:

OL Andrew Donnal, Baltimore (claimed by Detroit on waivers)

DL Carl Davis, Baltimore (claimed by Cleveland on waivers)

Also cut was quarterback Jake Rudock, who had been with the Detroit Lions the last two years after playing his senior season at Michigan as a graduate transfer from Iowa. The Lions will re-sign Rudock to their practice squad.

Is this discrepancy due to pro-KF bias in the NFL? Or does ISU just suck THAT bad?

How many years did Garappollo spend on the sidelines watching Tom Brady play? Pretty early to write off a young man as talented as CJ Beathard. And remember that Kurt Warner played in the arena league, then NFL Europe, then spent some time carrying an NFL clipboard before injury forced him onto the field. No one expected anything special from Warner, but in spite of all the expert indifference, he went on to become the MVP of the entire NFL, a Super Bowl MVP, and is now in the NFL Hall of Fame.

But had injury not opened the door, maybe Warner's career ends with nothing more than occasional mop-up duty. It takes talent to be a great pro athlete, but you better believe--like in most of life--that it also takes luck and timing. Who knows when, or if, those factors will converge for CJ Beathard?

Titans picked Colorado State's Dalyn Dawkins over Akrum as their practice squad (4th) running back, who, unlike Akrum stayed healthy in the last two preseason games. The Titans also chose to keep the bigger and more trusted Toledo running back David Fluellen who has been on and off there practice squad over the last 3 years, with very little production; 4 carriers for 21 yards in his NFL career.

Akrum fumbled once against the Packers (Strike 1) which dropped him firmly behind Fluellen in his competition for the 3rd RB slot early in camp. But injury (sore ankles) limited Akrums participation in practice the last two weeks and caused him to miss the the final preseason game (Strike 2), where Dawkins carried the ball a lot. Akrum was less effective on pass protection as well (strike 3).

Overall, Akrum had a much higher upside than either Fluellen or Dawkins as a more explosive returner, receiver and running back, as Akrum showed early in camp before being slowed by injury. Dawkins was never considered to be competing for the 3rd RB spot with Fluellen.

The Titans chose the more trusted & experienced Fluellen despite having little upside, and rewarded Dawkins with the Practice spot for finishing strong in camp.

I sure hope another team is willing to give him a shot.

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Monday they have signed DB Antone Exum Jr. and OL Matt Tobin to one-year deals. In order to make room on the roster, the team placed S Marcell Harris and RB Jerick McKinnon on the Injured Reserve List. The team has also signed OL Zack Golditch to the practice squad.

Tobin (6-6, 310) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 29, 2013. In four years with the Eagles (2013-16), he appeared in 42 games (21 starts) and one postseason contest along the offensive line. On August 22, 2017, he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks where he appeared in 15 games last season. Tobin signed with the New England Patriots on March 17, 2018 and was released by the team on September 1.

A 28-year-old native of Dyersville, IA, Tobin appeared in 29 games (22 starts) in five years (2008-12) at the University of Iowa. As a senior in 2012, he started all 12 games for the Hawkeyes, playing both tackle and guard.

Tobin will wear number 64.

I agree. Body rests.Last year was a beast.He beyond tough.But 3 years in a row? Gotta Sting.
 
LOL...more UNI players than Iowa State players on active rosters.
 
My takeaway from this thread...........Iowa has 27 guys on NFL rosters, the
Isu cyclones have 5.

Therefore the score of this Saturdays game should be IOWA 27,
isu 0.

I think it might happen more than we think it should. At the same time, im sure BB knows what he is getting from a CF coached player and no call is needed
