$42 billion more tax dollars going to President Musk.

You're too stupid to understand that Starlink is already an option. This bill is to give rural folks the option of good internet service.

And Musk wants to shutter it, because it will undercut his costlier service with better performance.

We're already seeing the TMobile wireless option for homes in areas out here. Once the fiber is in place, it is up to TMobile and others to decide whether they want to connect to it.

Cletus-Delta-Delta-Tango is too dumb to understand that cell towers need fiber links to function.

Is that what this program is for? If so do it.

Most likely option, because that's how you get access to remote areas - certain posters in this thread think it means your running fiber into every house, which is false.

We have fiber in our neighborhood, but it only runs to a few main neighborhood terminals; there is coax that runs from those boxes to individual blocks and homes. That is what Xfinity uses for its connections.

When you put fiber in place, ISPs are able to use their tech to access it and provide service. Whether that is running coax, using cell towers, etc.

I have Starlink because there is literally no other option where I live. When our house is built we may have intermittent cell service but Starlink is the only reliable option for us. We have never had an outage, even when we had 2 feet of snow. The internal heater keeps it clear. Our speeds are fast. Maybe because we live in a pretty remote area. There are only about 5,500 people in the entire county and some of them are Amish, lol. Starlink is recommended by virtually everyone here that isn't in town where there are other options.

All that said, why is the bootstraps party wanting to give Starlink money? It is already available. You can get discounted dishes. The service is not that much more than we were paying for Cox in Omaha which was trash. If the richest man in the world wasn't a piece of trash he would already have a program for poor people to get free or low cost dishes and even discounted service. The funds should be used for things that don't exist like running fiber and installing more cell towers. Cell towers especially in the mountains where I live. It would be a massive help when hikers get lost or go missing if we had better cell coverage.

This is only true if Nancy Pelosi is buying the stock. Someone check what she and others in congress are investing in. If they are investing in Starlink, then this is true.
Slow down. You don't have to defend everything you'll wear yourself out.

Exactly this. Starlink is available to those who have no other option and it serves a purpose. The BEAD program is designed to give rural people MORE options for BETTER service at LOWER costs to them.

If Starlink was a viable solution for the rural masses we would not see or need a BEAD program.

And I would love it if there were a viable competitor. If the government is giving money to Starlink then why can't we have multiple companies with access to their satellites. I mean, if we are paying for them then they should belong to us.
