5 teams will go to a bowl with a 5 win record.

So I wonder.... Can some of these bowls opt to take a 5 loss team over the available 6 win teams?

Way, way too many bowls. If this is the way it is just let everyone play in a bowl.

Bowls were originally a reward to teams that had a good season. If you're in a power 5 conference and and 6 wins....or less, you suck. Your year sucked. You don't deserve a bowl.

Have you ever played a down of football??

Past high school? No I haven't. Have you? If you were a great player on a power 5 conference team that had less than 6 wins with a personal goal of playing in a low level Detroit Bowl game than I'm sorry that you made poor life decisions. Your team didn't deserve to play in a bowl game.

What team did you play on?

I think they're gonna reward a team that travels well and will spend $$ too. We may stink but bowls still love us. Are you bitter about 2007? 6 wins and no bowl?

Not getting a bowl invite that year is still stunning, when you consider how in 1993, we only were invited to the Alamo Bowl because of the travel.
In 2006, we sent quite a few to the Alamo Bowl that year, as well.
Of course, NBC Sports called that the worst loss in college football that year, losing to a 4-7 Western Michigan at home on senior day with a bowl game on the line.

Whether they deserve it or not is an argument for another thread. This is a great thing for the B1G if Nebraska or even Minny make a bowl. More revenue and tv viewership in a conference that shares revenue is amazing. Every little bit helps and setting some viewership records in a couple of these smaller bowls will do nothing but help when the B1G goes to the bargaining table once tv contracts are up for renewal.

If you don't like all the bowls then don't watch them. People say why don't we just have everyone play in a bowl then? You say it sarcastically but I would love it. Give these kids a reward(beyond the scholarship) for playing for our enjoyment and personally I would try to watch every game. I'll take ODU vs Fresno St over any bunk ass NFL game any day of the week.

I agree except for one point. I seriously doubt the B1G will make a nickle on a Nebby bowl. The revenue from a bowl like that won't cover their expenses.

I don't care if there are 100 bowls. I watch the ones I want, and some kid and his fans get to play another game somewhere. No harm done.

And having some crappy team play in a crappy bowl doesn't diminish the reward Iowa gets for playing in a New Years Day bowl one bit.

So you warmed the bench in high school? It's easy when you expect others to carry the team, so yo have no idea how hard it is to win. You are the loser, not some of these 5-7 teams.

I shouldn't stoop to the level of an internet tough guy who makes no sense and calls strangers names online, but wth.

There's no reason that a person needs to have played to have an opinion on this, but I certainly wasn't a benchwarmer. I started every game my junior and senior year. It's hard to win? What does that have to with the price of tea in China? Of course it's hard. I worked my ass off and our team didn't win enough games to make the playoffs. I didn't cry because it's so "Hard to Win." The results weren't good enough and we didn't deserve it no matter how hard we worked.

Bowl games used to be a reward for a good season, not for trying hard and still losing. In football as in life people are rewarded for results. Maybe someday we can stop keeping score and just let everyone play in a bowl game so no feelings are hurt and give everyone a participation ribbon and orange slices after the game. :)

I get it and I went a bit far. Just thought I was seeing somebody say it's fairly easy to become bowl eligible, rather than just saying that they're just not good enough.

You're right that they should at least be 6-6 to play.

No self respecting Nebraska team would accept a bowl bid with a losing record...my how far the mighty Huskers have fallen. Someone give them a ribbon for participation please.

Currently, there are 40 Bowl games which translates into
80 teams make a Bowl game. We now have too many
Bowls and not enough good teams. You could cut it down
to 30 Bowls and make it seven wins to be eligible.

Thanks for that classy response. You've restored my faith in the interwebz. :)

Mike Riley is excited about going bowling-------I hope Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln has shoes that fit him.

One of many signs that there are too many bowl games. I don't think a team that is 6-6 deserves a bowl. When you factor in the soft non-conference games most teams schedule, I think only teams with winning records deserve to go to a bowl.
