6’10 Oskaloosa, IA Center Xavier Foster is Ranked #22 for 2020 Class by One Outlet

My point is UNC is no longer THE school to go to.In 90s and mid 2000s they were.

15 years ago you used to see UNC gear everywhere, videos, TV ect, especially Jordan UNC stuff, you dont see it at all anymore. Kids in the midwest aren't growing up as fans of unc.

Im sure a kid like Foster would still listen but Roy isnt going to be plucking kids from that far away anymore IMO. The appeal just isnt the same.

Self and Izzo are a much bigger threat because of proximity IMO and if Duke and UK get involved its probably over.
According to their commitment list UNC got players from Mo and Ohio in 2016 and 2017. Roy's presence still worries me, and he won't be 70 when Foster signs. Coach K is 70 now, and unless he follows Wooden and Paterno (longevity in coaching), he may be done, or rumored to be close to the end of his coaching career.

Makes you wonder when his recruiting blows up; hopefully he commits to Iowa soon :)

I do think that Iowa has a lot of good things going on as far as keeping the instate kids: (1) we are now a stable program; (2) we are in the B1G, America's #1 basketball conference; (3) these kids will play close to home so family can easily come watch in person; (4) we play a fun style of ball; (5) our program is not located in Lames, IA
I'm having a problem with the idea the B10 is the #1 bball conference.

Depends on the measure. Probably not worth a debate as fans of various schools would have to get into who makes the most money, who has the better attendance, Personally, I can't bring myself to discuss your perfectly reasonable consideration because I keep laughing at the fan from a Big Twelve school who latched onto your post with a like. :)

Not really. It is the ACC. They are the best basketball conference. Money has nothing to do with who has the best basketball. Learn the game.

How have those Big Ten/ACC challenges been going?

Let me help you:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACC–Big_Ten_Challenge

Seems like the Big Ten has been holding it's own pretty well over the last ten years.

Uhhh, Dan, let's not be ridiculous here. One little challenge doesn't make up for the fact that the ACC has consistently gotten championships over the past two decades, while the B1G has had...1? And one grandfathered in with Maryland joining us.

I mean, it's the ACC. It will probably always be the ACC. And that's okay.

No doubt the ACC has had the top teams. But like I said, this isn't even worth debating when one considers we are talking CONFERENCE. Don't you think that should include top to bottom? Again, though, I don't care....ridiculous is trying to come up with what means more.

Even more ridiculous is an Iowa State fan chiming in on the subject.

DanL is so passive aggressive.

I prefer aggressive passive. I'll stomp a fellow into the ground but then lay on the body purring. You go learn the game, you saintly nice guy on a Hawkeye site behaving perfectly.

haha. 1) that first part was really odd 2) don't steal my catch phrases, 3) why don't you think I am an Iowa fan?

I'll just have to disagree. Top-to-bottom, I think the ACC has better teams, mainly because their top is insanely better than ours and their middle and bottom are comparable to the B1G's. They have Boston College, we have Rutgers, and then it's basically even until you hit the top 5, and then they just beat the shit out of us.

I am not arguing. But go ahead and disagree all you want.

There is a little thing called poster history and when it comes to basketball you are an Iowa State fan.

I'm an Iowa fan who but one who has no hate for ISU. I will cheer for them when they aren't playing Iowa or KU.

well if every school in the B1G ran a fake class to keep some of their guys eligible like UNC...it might not even be close.

Doesn't matter. It is one of those arguments that could go on forever as the variables are endless. And every year the results change.

What I still find the most interesting is a poster who JUST kissed butt with an intrusive troll from Michigan State actually thinks anyone would believe he is a Hawkeye fan.

What were their other offers?

If this kid is good enough to get the blue bloods interested im way more worried other coaches.

Somehow getting back to Xavier Foster, I just watched the video of him playing (as a freshman reserve) against Dallas Center- Grimes this past season. While it is obvious he has potential, the reality (to me, anyway) is that he has a loooong way to go. Hawkeye fans have to remember that AS FRESHMEN- same as Foster- guys like Jordan Bohannon and Cordell Pemsl were leading their teams in scoring many games, against far better competition. I mean, Cordell played in three straight state championship games and was 1st team all-state at age 15. I hope Foster improves and keeps improving, and I hope he keeps Iowa on his radar, but right now all the bigs Iowa has (from Kriener to Cook) are considerably ahead of this kid.

I could post a video that makes him look much better. ;)

I'm an iowa alum simpleton

You may be an Iowa Alum Simpleton. I'm sure some slip through.

Now, as some folks have expressed a desire to keep threads on topic, why don't we confine our pi$$ing match to the Iowa/Iowa State thread?

The ACC had one team in the sweet 16 last year, the Big ten had 3. While UNC was very much the best team in the country, "East Coast Bias" is a real thing. Even in the postseason coaches poll, after Michigan beat Louisville, they ranked Louisville ahead of them. Hell, they didn't drop Duke or Louisville below any of big ten teams that made the sweet 16. Most everyone on the East Coast and ESPN wanted an 18-14 Syracuse team in the tournament! The ACC has won 1 out of the last 8 BIGTEN/ACC challenges.

Especially since said Michigan State fan was a complete douche. Not to mention ignorant and illiterate.

Whats interesting is that on another site its being reported that Foster said he wants to wait until his senior year to pick a school. Iowa will have to work hard for the next 2 years.

Insanely? If I'm not mistaken, MSU is scheduled to play Duke this fall and has a good chance to beat them. Same matchup has happened before and been very competitive. MSU's recruiting is becoming very Dukelike as well.

As you would expect. Xavier is only 14 or 15. Still would love to have young Mr. Foster in the frontcourt rotation with Garza/Nunge in 2020-2021.
