Committing to the Hawkeyes was a dream come true for Cedar Falls offensive lineman Spencer Williams, so he cannot wait to get started at Iowa this summer. We caught up with the 6-foot-3, 295-pound Williams, who will wear #63 for the Hawkeyes, to talk about his upcoming freshman year and much more.
Q: When do you make the move to Iowa City this summer?
WILLIAMS: June 12.
Q: What are you looking forward to in starting workouts with the team?
WILLIAMS: I can’t wait to learn from such a great strength coach and make myself the best player I can be. Also, I just can’t wait for the weight room atmosphere where everyone is just working hard.
Q: What are your goals for your freshman year? Are you hoping to play or expecting to redshirt?
WILLIAMS: My goal for my freshman year is to surprise some people. I am expecting to redshirt, but I am going to go out there, not only this year, but every year, and give it everything I have to earn a spot
Q: What will it mean to you to walk out of the tunnel at Kinnick Stadium for the first time?
WILLIAMS: It will mean the world to me. I am living a lot of people’s dreams. I feel blessed that I have this opportunity and will make the most of it.
Q: When you look back at everything, what was it about Iowa that made it the right place for you?
WILLIAMS: There were so many things - the coaches, the players, the facilities, and the tradition. Every time I visited I got the feeling that this was the place for me and this is where I belong. I can’t wait to get there.
